2 Minute Game Sound Design: Ambient Background Loops

Sound design is among my favourite parts of game development - it’s one of those parts of polish that often get overlooked but can add so much to the overall experience. I don’t talk about it a lot on here, but I figured I’d share some of my workflow and the process I go through when designing unique sounds for Birdened.

This one’s just a background loop to use as ambiance in certain rooms. I have about 40 of these loops stockpiled for specific situations, but it’s always fun to create new ones when I hear something interesting. edit: quick note - make sure you save your files in a .wav format (or an ogg if your engine supports them as sfx) and not as an mp3. MP3s have a short snippet of silence at the start of the file which ruins the loop.
