all i've wanted to do fffor the past like. week or so. is talk about maple leaves so i think i'm just gonna spit everything i can remember about the band and its history out and see if somebody gaf

maple leaves were an indie folk-pop band formed in late 2008. the band formed when two original members anna miles (currently in beautiful cosmos) and julian corrie (also known as miaoux miaoux, currently in franz ferdinand) met at sleazy's open mic night, and after expressing a mutual love fffor story songs decided to ffform a band. in december 2008, they would perform fffor the fffirst time at DiscOmBoBUlAte's writer's night (video here!). in january 2009 the band would aquire a drummer, graeme thomson, (very awesome drummer. very cool awesome cool.) and in july of that same year would release their fffirst single "kirsty" along with b-side "easy speak) WOW. COOL!!!!!!!!! their next single, tapestry (along w/ b-side fields) would come about in june 2010, and they would release their debut EP 'golden ether' in october. of that year. ARE TOU LISTENING TO ME. in february 2011, they released a compilation EP 'threads', along with introducing a bassist fffor the band, ross kelly. their next song would come out later that year in a month i cannot remember at this current moment in time (i suspect june-july), 'shake it up', fffor the scottish fffestival 'go-north'. there is no b-side associated with this song. this would also be corrie's last project with the band before his departure in october 2011 (although he would assist in the recording process on their next EP, just not as a member of the band.) DOES ANYONE WANNA WELCOME IN A NEW GUITARIST?????? THE MAPLES SURE DID!!!!!!!!! hello fraser macpherson! hello! waves @ you. ok. anywa. maple leaves would release their third and fffinal EP in may 2012, 'robots'. the band would still perform fffor the next two years, end even had plans to release new content (which were not fffulfilled due to unknown reasons.) the band would eventually disband in c.2014 (i'd assume around then since that's when they went radio-silent on all socials??), but strangely enough, in 2016, the band released a single, 'overdrawn this christmas', which was actually a demo fffrom c.2013.

people who refer to maple leaves as ONLY "julian's old band". especially franzies who do it (hold up, i have an explaination fffor that)

well, yeah. that is true, but it fffeels like its reducing maple leaves to only JULIAN'S. ya know what i mean?

and i'll just say this. julian was only in maple leaves fffor THREE YEARS of the bands history!! the band kept kicking fffor FFFIVE WHOLE YEARS after he left. FFFIVe.

and i shall explain why specifically franzies saying this PISSES. ME. OFF with a pretty bold statement

maple leaves are the reason franz moved towards that quite different sound fffor aa.

"how so????? HOW SO??????????????????????????????????" you may ask me. and i shall explain!

go back to 2012, when julian released light of the north, it has a more distinctly pop sound than all of his other prior releases. this will be the case fffor all of his other releases afterwards. this is BECAUSE of maple leaves.

to quote julian directly (stutters and all), "I was playing in a band called Maple Leaves fffor a while, and I started that band shortly after I came back to Glasgow, and the whole idea of that was to write pop songs that were sort of- yeah, it was to basically like- I has this like...naive dream that I could try and like write the greatest pop songs ever, y'know? and sort of, like, I really believed in pop, and I still do I think, as, like, a medium of...the- the way that.... you know, writing a good song, y'know, is a really, sort of, great thing to do. But then I left to fffocus on this and I think, maybe, some of the pop..sort of...thing kind of rubbed off on it, you know? Like...um...I was like "Oh no! I need to write some pop songs, what should I do?""

and as we allllllllll know, the sound of always ascending came pretty much directly fffrom julian's later releases as miaoux miaoux. always ascending haters, you have the maples to blame fffor that! you're welcome.

i COULD go on a schpiel on how it minimizes the other maples impact on the band (specifically the two who joined after the #originalthree (EVEN THOUGH graeme technically isnt even an original member!!) but then this post would be WAYYYYYYY too long
