MØTHS- Music Is a Moral Law[LP] | June 5th, 2026

Music Is a Moral Law is the debut LP from the Scottish-American electronic rock band, MØTHS.

The band, originally started in the October of 2025 by Scottish ambient musician Jude Kerr as a mix of a subgenre someone created called "Gribbleschnift" and punk later snowballed into something real where it would later get American noise musician Common ZenZe to then take the drum kit within the band and help compose the songs.

The result ended up straying from the original punk vision for the most part and turned into noise electronic/rock exploring many weird soundscapes while some tracks like Motor, Gribblepunk and Goodbye keep with their roots of more rock based tracks. It also strayed from the Gribbleschnift roots as the community began showing true colours of hateful communication so in return MØTHS decided to instead self-release their album instead of with their official label.

Bitter Fictions - Amethyst & Emerald

Chordal reverberation, howling feedback, and scorched earth scuzz alchemized into a gorgeous harmonic spiritualized sonic journey, a post no wave aria for guitar. Bitter Fictions is the long running serenity distortion project of Calgary-based guitarist Devin Friesen, asking: what does meditation sound like when you cannot meditate? Is there some calm in chaos?

Amethyst & Emerald was recorded mostly in the last months of 2019 while living in Montreal, right before that whole pandemic thing, then re-worked and finished several years later in Calgary. It was mastered by Patrick Klem, who has worked on records by similar guitar manglers such as Magik Markers, Steve Gunn, Bardo Pond etc. The initial guitar tracks were recorded on a variety of blank tapes of assorted vintage, which gives the pieces an aged, idiosyncratic and shifting feel. Musically, these are raw, reaction-level expressions on emotional themes - coping with disappointments and grief by recording oneself in same-day response to things that happened. To help work through newer griefs Friesen returned to these recordings several years later, adding synthesizer arrangements and expanding the scope of the pieces into something deeper and more enveloping.

“Self-Taunting” is the debut single from Death’s Reach, drawing from the emotional intensity and dynamic contrasts of classic nu-metal while grounding itself in raw self-examination.

Built on heavy guitars, raw emotion, and a cathartic vocal delivery, the track explores the internal war between positive and negative identities. The verses circle doubt and self-recognition, while the chorus reaches for clarity, momentum, and escape. As the song unfolds, restraint gives way to confrontation, culminating in a breakdown that forcefully rejects the voice holding everything back.

“Self-Taunting” captures the moment where self-doubt stops being background noise and becomes something you have to face head-on. This is music for fighting yourself and choosing to move forward anyway.

Jormungandr is a punk album that deals with depression, climate anxiety, religious extremism and other issues. This album uses the Norse myth Voluspa as a launching point to thinking about these issues. It wraps up with the song Auld Lang Syne as a call for community.
