ok i started reading htdc like two days ago and im finally all caught up and im deadass losing sleep over this fic. like i had to pause on it last night bc i wake up at 4am for work every day and i literally tossed and turned all night and i swear i heard cupid de locke on repeat in my head in anticipation for when they meet irl bc i hadn’t gotten to that scene yet.

I still can’t believe it’s canon that Will’s lie is the only reason Mike told El he loved her. Before seeing the painting and hearing Will’s words, Mike was on the verge of coming to his senses about how the relationship just wasn’t working and they should give it up. But then he thought El gave him the most meaningful gift of his life. He thought she saw him in the way he’s always wanted to be seen. And that’s what made him recommit to her. He declared his love for the person who gave him that gift and feels this way about him - not knowing that person is not El. How could anyone ship M*leven when all this is canon? It’s literally what happens in the show. There’s nothing fabricated by Bylers here.
