Saw someone saying that it’s intentionally humiliating when bylers call eleven Jane, because her bullies in season 4 also referred to her as Jane, as opposed to her friends. And I think my brain short circuited a little because, obviously they referred to her as Jane??? They didn’t know about her past in her lab at all and only ever knew her as Jane. Do you think they wouldn’t absolutely use her number name against her if they knew about it?? If you don’t think they would, then you’re naive.

Also, this is beyond ships, I just really don’t understand this insistence on calling her eleven in some parts of the fandom.

Some of the people trying to excuse that behaviour with Mike calling her that like it makes the name her abuser gave her suddenly fine. And it’s not even a name. It’s a number. She is a person. A human being. Like I can understand calling her El, as this is more of a nickname and was used as a placeholder name before she even knew what the name her mother gave her was. But trying to twist the narrative to somehow mean that Jane doesn’t like being called jane because of her bullies is absurd. Both her mother and Kali called her Jane and she seemed perfectly fine with it. If you actually care about her as a character you would put the ships aside and acknowledge that.

This is not some stereotypical opposites attract dramatized love story. Byler are two childhood best friends who bond over their shared interests. They’re nerds, they don’t fit in well with other people, they don’t conform to society’s idea of masculinity, they like to dress up in costumes, they have mental health issues… I could go on.

They work well BECAUSE they’re so similar. Focusing on one character’s traits does not negate the other’s.
