all she could do was stare at him as he tried to explain everything away. this was something that he had done since he was young, and it was humorous to the girl even more now.
"being more aware is all i ask." she said coming into his room a bit. "we already have enough things to worry about with stuff trying to kill us. we dont need to add the fact that you can't seem to stop tripping over you own two feet to the mix."
looking around, she noticed how much it looked like a normal teenage boys room. how it didnt look like it was inhabited by someone who had been through the years of trauma and danger that they had all been through.
sitting on his bed, she looked at him. he had changed so much in the years that everything started. the height difference between them changing as he towered over her, his limbs a bit more gangly and his voice a bit deeper. it was like nothing had changed but at the same time everything had changed.
"are you doing okay?"

It’s a good day because it was one of the rare days they could just be them. No monsters, no governments after them. Just two siblings that annoyed each other.
why was she looking at him like that ? billy couldn't quite place it , it was like . . . like . . . a recognition you get when you haven't seen someone in forever. yeah , that was it , but couldn't be right. he just saw her yesterday. maybe she was happy to see him.
ha , yeah right. he cracks himself up , sometimes. she was probably just contemplating his haggard appearance. who wouldn't ?
as she approached him , though , he eyes her suspiciously. her movements were slow , timid. afraid , maybe ? that thought is erased when she speaks and he huffs a scoff of surprise at her , " for me ? " was he dreaming ? that could be the only explanation he could come up with now. there was no way that hawkins' princess nancy wheeler had been looking for him , of all people.
continued speaking , nancy's words make him raise an eyebrow. even more confusion was added on to the never ending list and it made anger wash over him.
what did she mean she would explain everything ? that she would explain what happened ? was she the reason he was in the woods at ass ' o ' clock ?
" what the hell are you talking about ? " the words harshly fall from his lips , eyes hardening into a glare on her. " no , how about you explain now ? "
billy was still....well, billy. the same stubborn asshole that nancy knew before he got possessed and tried to kill them all. groaning, she ran her hands over her eyes as she tried to not scream. the last thing she wanted to do was explain to him what had happened over the span of the year while standing in the woods waiting for something to jump out at them, but it seemed like she had no choice as he was glaring at her like he wouldn't be budging.
"fine. you died last year." she said looking at him. "well, a version of you died. i dont know exactly what version but i think that vecna was able to have a copy of you that possibly died instead." she could see the look on his face that was nothing but confusion and knew she was losing him. so instead of trying to deflect, she started at the beginning.
the look on his face didnt change as she told their story, weaving in the involvement of him and max, no matter how involuntarily. eventually she caught him up on what had happened over the last few months and the state that everyone was left in. the devastation that had destroyed them and left them broken. getting to the end, she was gripping the flashlight so hard that her knuckles were white as she waited for him to say something.
"billy...i need you to just trust me when i say that we need to get out of here now. i swear i will tell you everything else you want to know, but i would rather not be out in the open like this."

"It's just a scratch." And by scratch he meant it was a deep gash in his back from Curt Connors. Steve was still recovering from Carol's death. They'd been intensely in love, beyond what anyone could describe... but then Tommy had turned himself into a monster, had killed her...his best friend and girlfriend gone in an instant. Even six months later it stung.
The person he was currently defending himself from (Or so he would describe it) was Nancy Wheeler. She'd lived next door to him his entire life and sometimes his Aunt May would try to set them up, but he had been convinced 'great personality' meant she was ugly, perhaps a little shallow of him but still.
Now they were walking to school and he was reminding himself there was a reason he couldn't get attached. "You worry too much Nance, besides it'll probably scar and then I'll be badass." Not even a scar could help Steve Harrington look badass, as geeky as he was, "You okay? You're worrying twice as much as you usually do."
it was the way he was so nonchalant about everything. it seemed like he was sitting there acting like a hospital stint and then him having to recover at home for a week was nothing.
but it was. and it was even worse because it seemed like it was something no one could explain.
chewing on her lip, she gripped the straps of her backpack and shrugged. "i'm not worrying twice as much as i normally do, i think its the normal amount" she said trying to not snap at him. "but i dont think you're taking any of this seriously and its a little scary." she said finally facing him.
"you almost died, steve. and you are blowing it off like you accidently got steamrolled in gym class."
