When I was younger, I wish someone had told me straight-up that not all adults experience “a calling”. That many of them never find particular purpose in a career. That sometimes, their job is just what pays the bills and they have to seek satisfaction and fulfillment elsewhere.
Because as an adult, this pervasive notion that there exists a perfect path for everyone, that people should love what they do, and that work is meant to function as a vehicle for fulfilling a person’s grand life destiny is not only inaccurate for many of us, it can be toxic.
The ideal is so ingrained that I have to remind myself constantly I’m not a failure because I don’t adore my job, and because I’m not rocking the world with my work. That is okay.
Sometimes, work is just work. There isn’t always a perfect career path, magically waiting to be discovered. There might not be this THING you were born to do. Sometimes, you discover that what you really want to be when you grow up is “paid”.
What happens once you kill yourself? Because I'm ready to go.
You wanna know what happens once you kill yourself? Your mother comes home from work and finds her baby dead and she screams and runs over to you and tries to get you to wake up but you won’t and she keeps screaming and shaking you and her tears are dripping onto your face and your dad hears all the screaming and runs into the room and he can’t even speak because the child that he loved and the child that he watched grow up is gone forever and finally your little sister runs into the room to see what all the fuss is about and she sees you dead. The person she looked up to and loved. The person she bragged about to her friends, the person she wanted to be just like when she grew up, the person that made her feel safe. But she’s never really going to get to grow up and smile and laugh and love because she’ll always be consumed with this feeling of missing you. And now there’s something missing from your family and they can barely look at each other anymore because everything reminds them of you but you’re gone and hurts more than anything. and you think that your mom never cared because she was always busy and yelling at you to finish your homework and clean your room and forgot to say I love you sometimes but really, she loved you more than anything and she doesn’t leave the house anymore, she can’t even get out of bed and she’s getting thinner and thinner because it’s too hard to eat. Your father had to quit his job and he doesn’t sleep anymore, every time he closes his eyes he sees his baby dead, and the image never goes away no matter how much alcohol he drinks. And at school your best friend sees that your seat is empty and she gets this sick feeling in her stomach and that’s when she hears the announcement. You killed yourself. And suddenly she’s screaming and crying in the middle of class and no one even bothers comforting because they’re all busy sitting there staring at your empty seat with tears dripping down their cheeks and all she wants is for you to hug her and tell her it’s gonna be okay like you always did, but this time, you’re not there to do it, everything is dark now that you’re gone and her grades are slipping, she barely goes to school anymore and she ended up in hospital after taking too many pills because she wanted to see you again. the girls who used to make fun of the way you dressed feel their throats get tight, they don’t talk to each other anymore, they don’t talk to anyone, they’re all in therapy trying so hard not to blame themselves but nothing works. and your teacher who always gave you a hard time stares blankly at the wall, she quits her job a few days later. And then your boyfriend hears the news and he can’t breathe, he still calls you a lot just to hear your voice and he talks to you on facebook but you never message him back, he can’t fall in love again because every girl he meets reminds him of you, he’s never going to get over you, he loved you and he cries himself to sleep every night, hating himself and slicing his skin because he couldn’t save you and he’s never going to hold you in his arms or hear you laugh again. Now everyone who knew you, whether they were a big part of your life or someone you passed in the hallway a few times a week, they carry this aching feeling around inside them because you’re gone, and they miss you, and they don’t know why you left but it must’ve been their fault and they should’ve stopped you and they should’ve told you they loved you more and that feeling is never going to go away. And so you killed yourself
but you killed everyone else around you too.

POLY IS NOT A KINK
Say it with me kids!
Too many young girls don’t know how to act when someone’s being inappropriate with them. They giggle or they try to brush it off. Don’t do that. Tell them to go fuck themselves - be a bitch. If someone’s being disrespectful to you, be disrespectful right back. Show them the same amount of respect that they show you.
Wise words from my mom (via alunit)
concept: we’re all happy together, no-one questions our relationship, and no-one makes mean comments. you both fell asleep on me during the film and my arms are numb but i don’t want to wake you so we stay like that for hours. we’re all living together, and we’re happier than we could ever be. no-one questions our relationship, they just treat it like what it is, something that makes us happy
All feminist women should be poly. "Your body belongs to your husband or boyfriend, you're not allowed to do anything sexual with other men" is not something a woman who respects herself should settle for. He feels sad when you experience sexual bliss because it's not with him? Well, do you want to be with someone whose happiness depends on controlling you? What if he felt sad when you left the house- would you deny yourself that right too? Your pussy is not his property. Poly people pls reblog.
Whoa whoa whoa there. No.
All feminist women should have the number of partners they want to have. (Assuming availability/willingness.) Sometimes that’s many. Sometimes that’s one. Sometimes it’s none. If a woman is happiest with one partner, she doesn’t need to go out and sleep with other people just to prove that she can.
A woman’s pussy is not a man’s property. Correct. It’s her property, and she can use it as she pleases. This might mean using it with only one person. If this upsets you, too bad, it’s not your property.
It’s controlling for a man to force an unwilling partner into monogamy. It is not controlling to seek out a partner who also enjoys monogamy.
Freedom doesn’t look the same for different people. (That’s why freedom is necessary in the first place.) Some people can have all the sexual freedom in the world, and freely decide they only want one partner.
Fear blocks good things
When I began my journey into my relationship, fear caused all kinds of problems…jealousy and envy, for me, are rooted in fear. Fear of losing, or never “having” or being able to “give him” what He has w/others. Fear of being inadequate and not being able to “meet all His needs”. Fear that I will always be left wanting more of Him than he is willing to share.
Giving in to your fears fuels insecurities, creates communication gaps in relationships, and distracts from the root of the real issue.
Sit with your fears/feelings. Don’t react too fast. Ask yourself, “What is the worst that can happen?” While creative minds can come up w/many answers to that question, if I’m being logical and realistic, I will realize that I have already faced my biggest fears in mono/poly…that He might stop loving me one day and move on without me.
Guess what, He might. But it won’t be because I wasn’t enough. Through this relationship and some soul searching over 11 years, I have come to know that I am the best version of me I can be today, and working on tomorrow. This is not a competition. No one can replace me. I am the only me. He chooses me everyday because I”m me. And her, and her and her … because of who she is :).
Woke up to this text message from @blightofclouds and it’s a really good question.
I guess my short answer is yes.
My long answer is there is still the possibility of cheating in a polyamorous relationship. By breaking any of the rules of the relationship that you and your parteners agree on. But will there be less of it? I think so. Why do people cheat? Perhaps they feel trapped in a relationship for whatever reason. Maybe they just wanna nail another person. Maybe both or maybe neither.
Being in a monogamous relationship for a long time is fine for a lot of people. But it can also be very difficult for other people. Myself for example. One of my partners and I were dating monogamously for almost 3 years before opening up our relationship. We both are young and really loved each other but we also never got to do much dating before. So what are our options? Break up? Stay together and never get to experience the dating world? Cheat? We chose polyamory and have been loving it.
I’m sure I could say a lot more. But what do you guys think?
Hey my family thinks I am morally wrong for being polyamorous how do I defend my actions to them
So, so many of the questions I get to this blog - probably the majority of them - come down to this: Someone in my life is thinking and/or behaving in a way that isn’t working for me. How do I change someone else’s thoughts/feelings/behavior?
And the sad answer is: you can’t. You can do all the right things, and say all the right things, but in the end you can only control yourself. Plenty of people out there wish they could get their family to stop judging their choices, but some people will never come around. You need to live your truth and be the best version of yourself, and try to surround yourself with people who can see and honor that.
That doesn’t mean you should entirely cut off anyone who doesn’t approve, but their reality doesn’t have to be your reality. Your morals don’t need anyone else’s validation for you to live them. It’s far, far easier said than done, especially when the censure is coming from your family, but try not to take it personally.
As for how you can explain polyamory to people who think it’s morally wrong: explain that everyone involved gives full consent, and no one is being cheated on. Be sure not to imply that you think monogamy is wrong or inferior or unenlightened, just that this is a different way of being in a relationship that works for you. Try to answer their questions with grace and patience, even if they’re asked obnoxiously. But remember that you are not required to defend your right to live your life the way that works for you - even if they never get it, you still have every right to your polyamory.
