Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Sunnydale's champion redefined monster-killing for a new generation. The Hellmouth lures countless vampires, demons and uncanny forces of evil to Sunnydale, and only one woman stands in their way. Her resolve and resourcefulness are in direct proportion to her snark and obession with things like becoming prom queen. Classic moments include her self-sacrificing swan dive at the end of "The Gift. Plus the way she catches Angel's sword between her palms, showing that when she's lost all her friends and helpers, she still has the greatest resource of all - herself. Buffy's forever our hero, even if we don't quite understand the recent comics storylines.

Firefly's Jewel Staite on Sam's First SupernaturalKiss, Eating Brains

Eating brains was only part of the pleasure for Jewel Staitewhen she guest-starred on Friday's episode of The CW'sSupernatural (9/8c).

"I saw that Jensen [Ackles] was directing," Staite tells TVGuide.com. "He's an old friend of mine, so I thought, 'Ooooh, fun! That would be great.' Luckily it all worked out. When you get on a show where one of the actors is directing, it can go either way. Sometimes they can stress out if they have too much on their plate, but he was so calm and so cool and so collected. He just really impressed me. We had some days we didn't even go the full 12 hours of shooting. We were let out early because he knew exactly what he wanted and when he got it, he moved on."

First Look: Buffy vets Charisma Carpenter, James Marsters Guest Star on Supernatural

In the episode "The Girl Next Door," Staite plays a demon who knew Sam (Jared Padalecki) when they were both children. Despite her habit of eating brains (what's a hungry demon to do?), they struck up an adolescent romance. More than a decade later, Sam will investigate a case in which he'll again encounter his childhood friend.

Like her character, Staite also has certain appetites. The self-professed foodie and budding food blogger shared with us details on Sam's young demon love, her latest projects and where she plans to eat next. (Plus, check out our on-the-set video of Ackles and Padalecki dishing on the new season.)

Ringer to Have a Buffy Reunion!

Maybe this will help the weak ratings: Sarah Michelle Gellar will reunite with one of her Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-stars on Ringer. Amber Benson will guest-star in Episode 10 of the freshman series, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. Benson, who portrayed Willow's girlfriend Tara Maclay on Buffy, will play Mary Curtis, a stripper who is also an informant for Agent Machado (Nestor Carbonell). Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Then and now Last seen taking a bullet aimed for Buffy in Season 6, Benson has gone on to appear in several TV series, including Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and Supernatural.

TV is full of shows set in their own universes, worlds different from our own (sometimes slightly, sometimes drastically) that open up new avenues for storytellers to explore. It can be a lot of fun to ponder what it would be like to live in a particular universe, to explore that different world, but would it be a positive or negative experience? Here is a list of which TV universes you would and would not want to live in...

Cons: Reavers. There’s also a harsh income gap and if you live on one of the outer planets, your life probably sucks. The Alliance aren’t fun either. Mostly though, it’s the you’re-lucky-if-they-kill-you-quick reavers.

Pros: Wide range of diverse cultures and some of the central planets are cool, so if you live there, it might not be as bad.

4. Dollhouse

Cons: Someone with the right tech can erase your personality, implant their own, and take over your body if you answer your phone at the wrong time.

Science Fiction and Fantasy Characters Who Lost Their Mystery (but Stayed Cool)

Doctor Who's River Song has got a tough time ahead of her — she's joining the biggest science fiction team of them all: the Legion of Formerly Mysterious Characters. Along with Darth Vader, the Man in Black and the Cigarette-Smoking Man, she'll dwell in a place where almost everybody knows all about her.

River Tam River Song's namesake is the central mystery of Joss Whedon's Firefly andSerenity. What did the Alliance and Blue Sun do to her? What superpowers does she actually have? And why is she so valuable to the Alliance that they're willing to kill anyone who's even seen her? We eventually find out all about River's past, her super-ninja powers and her connection to an atrocity that the Alliance wants to keep secret — but River? Still awesome and fascinating.Almost every mysterious science fiction character eventually loses his or her mystery — unless they get cancelled first. But it doesn't have to be the end. Here are some science fiction and fantasy characters who lost their mystery, but managed to remain cool.

Angel When we first meet him on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he's a shadowy figure who knows more than he's saying, and he seems to be there for Buffy whenever she needs him — but who is he? We eventually learn he's a vampire, but it takes a couple seasons to get the whole story about how he got his soul and why he's obsessed with Buffy. But even after countless flashbacks on BtVS and his own series, Angel still has a certain ineluctible cool factor. (Despite the ill-advised attempt to give him mystery again, by turning him into the supervillain Twilight.)

Fall's First Cancellation: NBC Axes Playboy Club

Trivial Pursuit enthusiasts, take note: The first official cancellation of the 2011-12 TV season is… NBC’s The Playboy Club!

The Peacock net announced Monday that it was pulling the low-rated, period drama off the air after three low-rated episodes.

Prime Suspect repeats will take over the Monday at 10 pm perch until Rock Center with Brian Williams debuts on Oct. 31.

NBC Orders Full Seasons of Up All Night and Whitney

This drama, starring Eddie Cibrian and Amber Heard, chronicled the goings-on at the infamous Playboy Club in 1960s Chicago. New NBC president Robert Greenblatt put a ton of promotional muscle behind the show,but audiences remained uninterested. Last night’s final broadcast averaged just over 3 million viewers.

First Look: Buffy vets Charisma Carpenter, James Marsters Guest Star on Supernatural

It's a reunion so epic there must be Supernaturalforces at work! Ex-Buffy costars James Marstersand Charisma Carpenter team up on the October 21 episode of The CW shocker to wreak havoc on the Winchester boys as a pair of marrieds with issues far more wicked than anything their former characters Spike and Cordelia ever encountered.

"Charisma plays a very powerful witch," says executive producer Sera Gamble. "In the episode, she starts throwing her power around because she and her husband are in the middle of a contentious divorce." Where's a good vampire slayer when you need one?

Here at KomiX Towers, we are huge Buffy fans, right from the very beginning. We owned the VHS, we upgraded to DVD when at college. We collected the merchandise, went to Buffy conventions in costume, and swooned when Nathan Fillion showed up in Season 7. We are guilty of having written fan fiction, a fact that has not been publicised until now. We actually did a happy dance when it was announced the Buffyverse would continue in comic-book form with Season 8.

And here we are now, in the Autumn of 2011 and we have in our hands the first issue of Season Nine.
