Well as you posted the worm man plushie…
It’s a secret. A tiny little secret. Sure Xisuma said he needed to prove he was trustworthy now, but surely keeping one little secret to himself won’t hurt anyone else? Besides it was given to him as a gift, it was his, and he should be allowed to keep it without having to justify it with Xisuma. It’s fine. It’s just a secret that’s all.
Squeezing the small plushie between his fingers he likes how soft he is. His own mini Worm Man, gifted to him by the man himself. Given by a friend. His first real friend. He likes it. A lot. Mini Worm Man is pink and yellow, with a cape of the softest fabric he’s ever felt. It feels nice, it feels safe, and when he hugs him tight at night and rubs the softest fabric of the cape over his top lip, it helps keep the nightmares away. It feels like he has his own personal superhero to watch over him, and that makes him feel safe.
"Mini Worm Man helps with his slow journey towards his new life too. When Xisuma is being too overbearing, or the thought of being around actual people is too much, his mini Worm Man is there. Not judging. Not trying to give him unwanted advice. Just there for squishy hugs, and to listen when he needs to tell someone about his thoughts.
Nobody else understands anyway. They haven’t been there, lost in the deep dark of the void, just existing through nothing and finding your own breathing too loud in the silence. Mini Worm Man understands. He just gives him his constant sewn on smile, and lets Evil X squish him to his chest until he’s folded at an awkward angle, and listens when he tells him in a whisper how he doesn’t think he’s ever going to fit here. But Mini Worm Man doesn’t judge, doesn’t frown, doesn’t sometimes roll his eyes as if he’s making it all up. He knows Xisuma is trying, he knows he can be the worst unexpected houseguest, he knows he is difficult. But Mini Worm Man doesn’t mind. Mini Worm Man doesn’t care when Ex has to sleep with a nightlight because the thought of being in total darkness makes him start breathing heavier and heavier until he’s having a full blown panic attack. He’s lucky he’s got such an understanding friend really, even if he is one made of fabric and stuffing.
At the beginning his Mini Worm Man stayed in his room, stashed into the bottom drawer beside his bed, and only coming out when needed. But as he tried to interact each day, tried to get to know the hermits, tried to open a shop, tried to become a part of something that feels like it has no space for him, he started getting put away less and less. He felt like he needed him more than he didn’t. And sometimes he wished he didn’t have to go all the way back to his room from halfway across the server to get a quick hug of reassurance.
So one day Mini Worm Man took up a slot in his inventory. Not that he ever had much anyway, but it wasn’t temporary. It became his permanent spot. So if he was away from his room, feeling small and lonely, all he has to do is find somewhere quiet and grab a quick hug to ease the nerves. It works. It helps. He finds himself able to cope a little better when he knows the comfort of a hug and the rub of the soft cape fabric against his upper lip is only an inventory slot away."
I've had this sitting in my inbox for a few days. I am absolutely just... In awe by how cute and soft this is. Like...Ex deserves a WM plushy. Especially since the real WM can't always be there.
