England Photo Diary 1

The last three months in England have been amazing, and here's to three more! Any suggestions on things to do in the UK? I'm open to anything!

Here Comes the (Alternative) Bride

I've never really been a fan of the traditional wedding dress. Fluffy ballgowns, and sweetheart necklines absolutely bore me to tears. Unfortunately that is what the majority of brides these days want, and the designers always deliver with perfectly pretty, yet boring, ivory confections. However for the Fall 2015 Bridal collections I found a few gems for the alternative bride. The most promising collection appeared at Vera Wang. The styling was disheveled, yet polished, and the dresses could easily be styled anywhere from rocker chic to woodland nymph.

Alexander Wang x H&M

There are very few fashion collaborations that I look forward too, but Alexander Wang for H&M is an exception. I look forward to adding the strappy scuba dress to my collection as a birthday present to myself. (The collection drops on November 6, my 22nd birthday!)

Model Behavior

I have to credit my love for fashion all to the girls who wear the clothes; the models. These mysterious, beautiful, leggy creatures constantly hypnotised me with their icy stares and enviable bone structure. Many were not pretty by any means, but they still drew me in with their interesting alien-esque looks. I couldn't get enough. One could say I am more obsessed with model culture more than I am with what they're trying to sell. This can all be blamed on one model in particular: Gemma Ward. I saw her in the pages of my Teen Vogue back in high school, and the rest was history. While my love for various models is as fickle as the fashion industry itself, Gemma Ward always remained a constant. So, without further adieu, my top 5 models of the moment.

5. Caroline Brasch Nielsen: I'm obsessed with this girl's razor sharp cheekbones, and while she is usually seen with an icy steel glare, her smile is absolutely heart warming. Her editorial work is flawless, each picture a true piece of art.

4. Behati Prinsloo: The new Mrs. Adam Levine has to be my favorite of the Victoria's Secret Angels. I am always looking towards her street style pictures for inspiration, and is always hilarious in interviews. This girl has the total package.

3. Kelly Mittendorf: Kelly Mittendorf rose to fame for staring in a Prada campaign before she even graduated high school, and has a resume that would make even more seasoned models green with envy, but this girls real power comes from her down to earth personality. Her tumblr blog made me fall in love with her even more than I did before.

2. Karlie Kloss: Is there any fashion related list this girl isn't on these day? I followed Karlie's career from the beginning, and every milestone she accomplishes makes me proud. She's like the girl next door, and you can't help but fall in love.

1. Gemma Ward: After a 6 year hiatus, Gemma Ward is back. The fashion world is hailing the return of one of their favorite models, the girl who brought in the era of the doll faced models. I am so happy she's back, and I hope she never leaves again.

Books by Girls That Are Life Changing.

This evening I finished reading Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham, and by the end of it, my thought was: It's really comforting to know that I am not the only person who as a child "was fond of pretending a ghost was touching her nonbreasts against her will". So, that in itself was very life changing. That got me to think about two other books that have changed my life in seemingly small, but major ways. The first being #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso. This lady went from hitchhiking rides from rude truckers to owning a multimillion dollar fashion e-commerce empire. Her life changing advice is, that if you want something, go and get off your ass and fucking do it. Which is what I needed to hear at the time really.  I read it just after I graduated college, and put the fire under my butt to start this blog. The next book that was detrimental to my development to a young adult was It by Alexa Chung. Her book is not unlike Dunham's in prose and style, except this book made me envy all that is Alexa Chung. This girl is just cool. There's no other word to describe it really. This book was life changing by the fact that I now know it's not appropriate to leave the house in yoga pants and your boyfriend's sweatshirts. This was probably the hardest fact for me to swallow, but it's for the greater good.

Across the Pond

  If a year ago you told me that I was going to be leaving America to go live with my fiancé in London, I would've told you that you were bat shit crazy. But here I am, in London, with my fiancé. I absolutely love living here, and while I do miss America from time to time, I absolutely cannot be more thankful for everything I am experiencing here. The only thing that's tough about England is the food; what they say about the English having horrible cooks is true, but that hasn't stopped me from trying every gross thing Nick throws at me (Jelly babies were specifically created to make children cry). But I digress. If anything living here in London has made me appreciate everything in America more, and has given me an appetite for travel and culture and I will be certain to indulge.

Sweater Weather

I think it's officially safe to say that crop top season is gone, and sweater weather has finally graced us with it's cozy presence. I have always been very partial to fall; colder weather, warm drinks (mostly coffee), snuggling up with my fiancé, my birthday, fuzzy sweaters with too long sleeves, and of course Thanksgiving. The best part about sweaters is that, unlike crop tops, you don't need six pack abs to wear them. In fact they're perfect for covering up the fact that you ate way to much thanksgiving dessert (no regrats). This season I am particularly partial to sweater dresses, and chunky turtlenecks in grey, black, oxblood red, and army green..
