No, you succeeded, you were trying to save his life and you did. It's just not that easy after that. Try to put yourself in Shoto's situation, give him space if he needs it. If he wants to see you, go, but trying to be there when he doesn't want you to won't help any of you.

I think you tried to do something good, but it didn't end up working. You couldn't have known what Shoto thought about this and it was the only solution you could think of at the time. However, you have to understand that Shoto doesn't see it this way, he wasn't there to make these decisions and is now trapped in a situation he despises, so telling him that he should be grateful will only anger him further.
