Favorite Show this week: Conan
Movie of the Week: Accidents Happen
"There are dysfunctional families... and then there are the Conways. After a family tragedy, 15-year-old Billy Conway has become the de facto glue between his bitter mom, distant brother, and stoic dad. But when Billy starts to act out, everything changes for him and his family."
Rented this thinking it was a comedy - turns out its a bittersweet drama. I thought it was pretty boring and didn't really like it. Definitely not what I was thinking it was.
Spoilers:
Billy is accident prone. He and his family get in a car accident. His sister dies and one of his two brothers is brain damaged. The parents divorce. The mom can't bring herself to visit the brother who is brain dead in the hospital. Billy's other brother is deeply depressed and kind of violent. Billy becomes friends with the neighbor kid. Billy and the neighbor kid find a bowling ball and roll it down the street. A car swerves to avoid the ball and driver is killed. Driver turns out to be neighbor kids dad. The guilt of it forces them to confess. Cops never found the bowling ball at the scene so they don't press charges. Random old lady has the ball and gives it to Billy. Billy rolls it down the street again. The End.
Movie of the Week:
Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Show of the Week: The Borgias
It's on Netflix!
Show of the Week: Deadliest Catch
Amazing documentary series about crab fishing on the Bering Sea.
Would I Recommend? Absolutely! Everyone should watch this show. I don't know if there are any new episodes out there but there are many seasons available on Netflix to watch and it's awesome.
Movie of the Week: Fair Game
Naomi Watts plays a CIA undercover agent whose life and career is ruined when the White House leaks her identity to punish her husband for writing an article criticizing the president's decision to go to war in Iraq. Based on a true story.
Would I recommend this movie: Yes. Before I watched this movie I had no idea what the Plame affair was about or why it mattered. So a CIA agents identity was leaked, so what? This movie answers that question on multiple levels. Valerie Plame was at the pinnacle of her career. She loved her job. She was just about the break a huge case and suddenly it was all ripped away and she found herself in a hopeless war with the White House
Watching Frozen the 1st time vs. watching it the 2nd time.
