Dragon Age II has been met with a lot of criticism, and while I personally love this game a lot and it is my favourite of the series, I can admit it has certain weaknesses. Acknowledging and addressing those can provide valuable feedback for the developers and is an important duty of the fandom.

Today I want to talk about something that I’m sure we can all agree on is one of the game’s biggest flaws.

Unlike many other games released at about the same time Dragon Age II failed to make use of a common and dare I say essential element that is without doubt responsible for the generally much higher ranked entertainment value of its competitors.

You all know what I’m talking about, this incredible waste of potential we all struggle to accept to the current day.

I am, of course, talking about the lack of minigames.

Oh, what could have been. Let’s imagine, just for a moment. Imagine, how you could support your dear companions and strengthen your bond with them through these fun challenges.

You would…

…defend Anders’ clinic against hostile templars in “Saving the Sanctum”.

…help Merrill repair her mirror in “Eluvian Enigma”.

…and assist Fenris with decorating his home in “One Magnificent Mansion”.

Ah, indeed, what could have been.
