going back to the post about athlete whumpees struggling to cover bruises/marks because of revealing sports uniform

i was thinking of an athlete whumpee struggling to return to their sport at all after being sexually assaulted because the kit leave them so on display. especially sports like diving or water polo (even more so for athletes amab) because their kit has to be skin tight and covers literally the bare essentials.

there's no way at all to avoid being looked at. in training, in competitions, locker rooms etc. and it makes whumpee feel so unsafe (maybe they even start to blame themself for what happened because their whole athletic career was putting their body on display so obviously they were asking for it)

i think about this CONSTANTLY. the way an athlete’s body is part of their job, is so much seen as a public commodity. they’re photographed, broadcast, stared at, commented on, even touched. there’s no hiding anything. changing rooms, team settings, sports where everything is on display no matter what… it’s all right out there.

and the asking for it element… yeah yeah yeah. why would you show all that off if you didn’t want attention? if you didn’t want eyes, hands on you? UH HUH.

Flashes of pain shooting through whumpee's stomach and pelvis after a long, rough assualt. The telltale limp on wobbling legs. The fear that everyone knows, that they know what happened when whumpee says "I'm fine" in a hoarse voice, if their shirt moves just enough to reveal the bruises they can't explain away.

Coupled with sly smirks and snide comments from whumper, maybe from whumpers friends who weren't there but know. Maybe some good natured teasing from people who think they know but they don't, they have no idea what transpired.

And all whumpee can do is force a hollow laugh, sneak off to the bathroom to try and control their trembling breaths and the tears threatening to fall from their eyes. Glaring at themselves in the mirror and trying to psych themselves up to go back out there, but their feet won't move, whumpee left drowning in the horror that everyone knows.

I'm late to the nsfwhump/noncon kink discussion but as someone who both enjoys Nsfwhump as a form of trauma processing and for Certifiable Sexy Reasons due to having a lot of wires crossed between the two, I feel very strongly if you are someone with a noncon kink and you engage with it through other people's fiction about sexual violence, you should be taking care to read the room/contextual cues before you start commenting overtly sexual things on their work, especially in the whump community. Speaking as a survivor with a hardcore nonconsent kink, it's really not that difficult imo to ascertain the difference between someone who's writing about sexual violence to be titillating vs trying to invoke horror even if you, the reader, technically find the depicted acts to be arousing. Exercising care around this is good practice, especially because for a lot of whump writers, depicting acts of sexual violence in an accurate way is an important practice of truth telling and trauma processing that often gets mistaken for porn/smut.

Personally my favorite brand of whump is the type that strikes a balance between "survivor fiction" nsfwhump and "smut" nsfwhump because my own sexual desires and trauma are very deeply intertwined and I don't necessarily perceive these two types of whump as being two seperate categories but that's just me

this will ALWAYS be one of my favourite things. it never fails to hit. and there’s so many ways to approach it, too, depending on circumstances and temperament and personality.

does caretaker KNOW what happened and why this feels so frightening for whumpee? or do they just know that it IS frightening, and even without knowing why, they still do their best to be gentle and patient and make this as safe as possible? maybe this is how caretaker even finds out. maybe their care and intentional respect and awareness of the impact of their touch and proximity and attention is what pushes whumpee past the point of trust where they can talk about what happened.

and then of course the multiple ways that fear can manifest too. does it make whumpee prickly and prone to snapping? mistrustful and resenting the care even as they accept it out of necessity? do they cry and try desperately to do so quietly, caught between watching every moment of treatment so they’ll know if caretaker’s hands start to wander somewhere else or looking away so that they might hide the wet streaks on their face? do they shake, tremble uncontrollably, struggle to keep their breathing calm?

the aftermath and trauma of sexual assault and how it affects other things going forward, even things completely unrelated, is just whump catnip to me.

it disturbs me that a significant number of people think that the issue with sexual violence, gendered violence, and misogyny is sexual desire rather than dehumanization, so they are relentlessly suspicious of others' (and their own) desires while simultaneously never at all interrogating others' (and their own) dehumanizing beliefs about other people, both within and outside of sexual contexts

also consider: same scenario but the person who walks in is a rival/enemy/only temporary ally. whumpee seeing them come in and feeling an overwhelming dread, contrasted by this person still having morals/a conscience, whatever their personal disagreements or dislike may be, and still making an attempt to get them out. and then you still have the awful humiliation of going through this in front of someone who doesn't usually think of you kindly. and the guilt of knowing they put their safety on the line for you anyway. and then many exciting possibilities for how they both reckon with all of this once it's finally over

the moment of whumper forcing whumpee’s legs open is such a particularly scary, threatening moment. it’s got the overpowering and loss of control of manhandling, the terror and intimate implication of nonconsensual touching and rape threats. it sends such a clear message of i will do whatever i want with your body and you can’t stop me. you’re mine to play with, use, abuse. and it’s a promise of what’s about to happen. even if no further assault follows, that moment of certainty that violation is imminent is all-consuming.

gagging a whumpee is always great but there's something special about using a gag that's really really obviously meant as a sex toy. even if whumpee isn't ultimately sexually assaulted, the threat and fear and humiliation of having a ring or spider gag forced into their mouth? extreme. and then if it's a panel gag or something with an intrusion on the inside, something inflatable or dick shaped that's designed to simulate oral sex or make them choke... it's invasive and horrifying and violating even when whumper isn't in the room.
