Hey there! My name is Mitzy Muffle, but you can call me Mitz or Mitzy. I have created this blog because for a while I have some mild interest in sickfic but have been too shy to post about them on my main blog.

So, here’s some more information so that you can get to know me!

My main interests right now are of course Dandy’s World and Animal Hospital so you can send me requests on the fandoms!

Micro-tropes I want to see more of

When a character is so sick that they can't do anything for themselves, and the person who secretly has a crush on them has to look after and care for them.

When a serious workaholic gets sick and the person they have a crush on decides to take care of them, and they feel really guilty the whole time because they're supposed to be able to work their hardest all the time. (Mutual crushing)

Constantly sick (Always guilty about it) X Medical professional in anyway (Just wants someone to take care of)

A character who has emetophobia gets food poisoning and the person they have a crush on (or partner) has to take care of them. (But they feel like they're disgusting and unlovable because they're throwing up) (Mutual crush)

A character who believes that they'll be unlovable if they ask for help gets sick, and the person they love takes care of them and has to remind them and make sure they know that they aren't a burden because of this and they are lovable

When a character is sick and the other one takes care of them.

How to Write a Sick Character

╰ Being sick is boring as hell

Nobody tells you that. You think it’s gonna be poetic and tragic and emotionally moving, maybe a few tears on the windowpane and a soft piano soundtrack? painfully Wrong... It’s pacing in a waiting room for two hours to be told to come back next week. It’s reruns of trash TV because your brain fog is so bad you can't even process a podcast. It's Googling "why do my bones hate me" and finding nothing helpful, only vibes. So if you're writing a sick character and every scene is Deep and Heavy and Symbolic, I love you but no. Let them be bored and be over it.

╰ Sickness is basically a toxic relationship with your own body

And wow, the drama is unmatched. One day your character wakes up and thinks, “Maybe today will be normal.” Their body: “Plot twist, bitch.” Now they’re sweating through a hoodie, canceling plans, and pretending they're “just tired” because explaining the truth is somehow more exhausting than the illness itself. Let your character hate their body sometimes and feel betrayed by it. Let them mourn the version of themselves that used to just do things without needing a three day nap after. But also—let them fight for their body, too. Advocate. Adapt. Try again. Because it’s not all despair. Sometimes it’s really freaking brave just to get out of bed and put on pants.

Hollywood loves to write illness like it’s an aesthetic. Clean blankets, sad smiles, a gentle cough. Yeah… no. Sometimes it’s vomit in your hair. It’s medical tape pulling off skin. It’s being too tired to shower but still scrolling through memes like your life depends on it. Give us the gross stuff.

╰ Let them be funny

Sick people are hilarious. Mostly because we have to be. You’ve got two choices when your body is a disaster zone: laugh, or fully unravel. So we joke about our failing organs. We flirt with the nurse while on IV fluids. We name our medical devices. We send memes from the ER.

╰ Sick ≠ broken

Please hear this: your character is not less than. They are not just here to suffer and die and inspire others with their angelic perseverance. They’re a person. Maybe a chaos goblin. Maybe a genius. Maybe a mess. Maybe a lover, a fighter, a giant emotional raccoon with a heating pad. Their illness is part of them, not all of them.

╰ Don’t wrap it up too clean

Recovery isn’t linear. Some illnesses don’t “end.” And that’s okay. You don’t need a miracle cure in the third act. Sometimes strength is just learning to exist in a different way. Sometimes it’s re-learning how to hope. Sometimes it’s finding a new rhythm instead of forcing the old one to work. So yeah—if you’re writing a sick character, you’re doing something important. You’re making space for people whose stories rarely get told with truth and teeth and tenderness. Just promise me you won’t turn them into a symbol. Let them be a person. A funny, scared, strong, exhausted, hopeful person. Like the rest of us.

guys I think we are not using abdominal pain to its full potential, broadly speaking. some options to consider:

pain that comes in waves. gripping the blankets, their friend’s hand, anything to distract themself

doubling over. squeezing their eyes shut in front of their team or out in public. collapsing onto a bed or couch the second they’re alone

stitches or a surgical scar across their abdomen, moving carefully so they won’t have to redo the bandages later

wincing as they struggle to sit up in bed

character that gets period cramps toughing it out through a long day at the office, a hike through the backcountry, refusing to let on that they’re hurting

“stop making me laugh, it hurts” as their friend says something else stupid, desperately trying to see them smile

a character tossing and turning in bed, trying to get comfortable but nothing works. all they can do is shift every few seconds, miserable and unable to focus on anything else

pain in their lower right side that comes with a fever, chills, and the nagging sensation that something is wrong

muscles strained from the shock of falling into ice-cold water, sore from gasping for breath and from shivering so many hours afterward

i feel sick 🤒 — questions for characters and their partners! adapt / use as you like, take it as an ask game or answer as you deem fit

— who notices their partner is sick first?

— when do they finally admit they need help?

— who gets clingier or more grumpy when sick?

— how does their partner convince them to rest?

— who is dramatic about it and who is almost crossing to the other side while insisting they’re ‘fine’?

— what comfort food does their partner make them?

—who is more likely to apologize for being ‘a burden’ when sick?

— who gets scared by seeing their partner sick? why?

— who becomes gentler than usual when taking care of their partner?

— who stays up all night watching the other sleep?

— who hides their worries, who allows it to show?

— what confessions would they make when they think their partner isn’t listening?

— would they cook for their partner? what comfort food would they make?

— who would call the emergency services in panic every day?

— who would drag their partner to the emergency services?

— how do they react when they see their partner get better?

— who takes ownership of house duties while the other is sick?

PSA for "Prompt" tags

*Only tagging every prompt tag I can think of because there's a common issue that's getting worse in all of the ones I follow*

Many new writers here seem to not understand what "prompt" or "inspiration" or even "list" tags are for. I've seen many who just seem to go, "Oh, this says otp/fluff/angst in it, I should put that on my post!" Which, no, that's not how it works.

What "prompt" (and similar) tags are for:

- generic inspiration

- ex: character A and character B go on their first date, what happens?

- list of words/things meant to *prompt* ideas

What "prompt" (and similar) tags are NOT for:

- answered asks from prompt lists (just say "prompt fill" or something)

- original writing/fic writing posts

- something that's more of a writing update than an actual prompt

Like, maybe it's just me because I don't see anyone really addressing it. I also tend to just block repeat offenders (aka those who do this often), so others who are also bothered most likely do the same. But it's been a growing issue, especially in niche prompt tags that already don't get enough activity with people making those prompts.

I get it, you're excited and want others to see what you've written. Which is understandable! But putting red balls in a "Green Balls Only" bin is just going to get people annoyed at you and your blog blocked. Technically, yes, things are related, but that doesn't mean it should be in there.

Categories are made for a reason. Please be aware of others, and if you're unsure what goes in a tag, look at the popular section of that tag. Granted, that's not always perfect (as I see a lot of Stranger Things or MCU fic posts get enough notes that they clog even that section), but it's a start.

I'm going to let this circulate for a while before I start blocking people again. Because, good news! You can remove tags from existing posts, and then your post will stop showing up in that tag. And I really don't want to inadvertently block someone I might enjoy reading. Just, you know, with the proper tags.

Waxwell ends up catching one of the numerous illnesses that kids often bring into Gardenview, and this sickness ends up sapping all of his enthusiasm into performing pranks and trouble on his fellow toons. And that quickly seems to be worse. Cosmo and Sprout are shocked when they find the kitchen in flames, and are chewed out despite not doing anything with it today. Goob and Scraps find themselves assailed by an irate Tisha about all of the black glitter inside her cleaning supplies, but they never got close to them! Indeed, while he's in the throws of mind-numbing sickness, Waxwell is inadvertently causing more trouble than he had ever done deliberately. He must be stopped!

I feel like Sprout is the type of guy to overwork himself trying to make sure everyone else is ok. He probably doesn’t even realize he is getting sick and then when he does realize he pushes it aside to keep helping the others. Man… I love making my faves suffer.

"it's not surprising that you'd react like this" (intended "anyone in your position would be devastated by this" but taken as "you're so predictably sensitive")

"you need to stay here. you're just going to slow the team down." (meant as "you're too ill/injured to come on this mission" but taken as "you're a burden")

i just like a caretaker with good intentions upsetting whumpee more and either feeling guilty about their phrasing or not knowing what they said wrong at all.
