add IDs to your posts

I am an artist and you added an ID to my art and this is how I’m responding: an FAQ

“Thank you so much for adding an ID!” 

You’re welcome! 

You could show your thanks to me even more if you added an ID to your own work so I don’t have to. 

“You described [x thing] wrong.” 

Thank you for correcting me (politely, I hope)! You can make a correction by messaging me directly and I will edit my post, or you can add an addendum by reblogging. (Either way, I will make an edit to my original post.) 

You know the 100% sure-fire way to make sure your art is NEVER misinterpreted by me or someone else writing an ID? Writing your own ID! You know your art better than I ever could. 

Also, if you’re going to be rude about it: shut up. 

“I wish I could add IDs to my posts, but I’m worried about doing it wrong.” 

An ID written by the artist is always better than an ID written by me. You are the only one who knows what details you want to be significant, what things you want to call attention to, etc. 

There’s no “way” to do an ID. Just write them. Seriously, there is no formula, there’s nobody grading them, there’s no set of criteria. Just write what you see. Read other peoples’ IDs to get a sense of it if that helps you! 

There’s also a wonderful Discord server where people can request IDs, or ask that people read over IDs. This is a great resource if you’re just starting out and want to workshop it with others before you post!

I get it! Good thing there is a great community of people to help!  

You can always request an ID for a post via the Discord. Lots of Tumblr users (myself included) would also be happy to help. Reach out! 

If someone adds an ID to your post, please copy and paste it in to your original post so more people will see it. It really helps!

isn't it kind of strange that personal space is a thing in multiplayer minecraft? or that people tend to looking at each other's characters when they talk to each other?

these things don't fulfill the inherent social functions they have in person. there is are no facial expressions you're missing if you don't look at the other person's minecraft character. there is no functional difference between standing right next to someone and standing 3-4 blocks away, you're no impeding them in any way

yet people do it anyway. they keep a few block distance between each other. they look at each other when talking, whether it's by going afk with the cursor on the other person or by tracking their idle movement

which gives us these moments where they close that distance or exaggerate the eye contact and suddenly it means something, because it's different! this thing that has no difference in game mechanics, gains meaning through the social conventions. crouching at each other and staring at each other. bumping into the other player. standing right next to a player until slightly nudging them

and that evolves, like real society! it's not something i recall happening that much 10-15 years ago. proximity chat likely has something to do with it, giving the distance some slight game-mechanical meaning and also making the character feel more like a manifestation of the other person instead of simply an object in the game while you were chatting on skype. it pulls people deeper into the game world, increases the immersion and suddenly we have body language in a game where your only ways to manipulate the body are the way it's facing, walking, jumping and crouching. if you want to call it body language there's also the item you're holding - or the two items, in modern minecraft. it's incredible how much of a language can be built with such primitive tools

All signs point to the Nether being full of things with life/vitality giving properties.

Gold is used for golden apples, and glistening melons which are used to create instant health potions.

Blaze powder is required for brewing, and is used for strength potions. It is also used to open the end portal.

Ghast tears are used for regeneration potions, and ender crystals that heal the Ender Dragon. It is also used to craft dried ghasts.

The Wither drops nether stars which are used in beacons. Even when the Wither kills something, it creates life in wither roses.

And then there’s the whole thing with soul sand and soul energy. (Especially if you consider Minecraft Dungeons canon)

Fire (and heat) itself is commonly associated with health, vitality, and power.

This leads to the question of “If there is so much ‘life energy’ in the Nether, *what’s the deal with all the skeletons*?”

One thing I don't talk about on this blog because im an 25 year old man is that im really into MCYT and have been since I was a tween , and specifically I've been into the Hermitcraft side of things most of that entire time. and there's this thing about being into Hermitcraft for so long.

You'll just be watching goofy funny moment compilations about adults shrieking at each other as the play hit video game for babies, Minecraft, and a dead man's username will show up in the corner of the video as he logs in and off or rarely chatters with the other members of the server. and every single time it's just a wave of like. parasocial grief that he's gone.

TFC is basically never in any of the compilations no matter how old they are. He wasn't that popular. and it's always just. a hit every time he comes up or the items dedicated to him drop in the giant rougelike one of his server mates made.
