Something very addictive about the juxaposition of making physical fanart for this show. The texture is so fun
Made this for my wall for fun, been so long since I've made fanart
There is a pervasive ideological construction that someone either deserves autonomy or support, but that these are mutually exclusive.
This artificial construction is extremely present when it comes to discourses about age and ability. People will discuss taking away choices or censoring information as "protecting" young and disabled people, and will discuss taking away material support as a necessary exchange for decision making (e.g. "if you live under my roof, you live under my rules"--a threat that asserting autonomy comes at the cost of homelessness). This dynamic is so foundational to the oppression of children that even when applied to adult groups we use words like paternalism and infantilization to communicate that a group of adults is being treated "like children."
Whenever you demand autonomy, people use this as justification to withdraw resources and care. Whenever you express your need for resources and care, people use this as justification to withdraw bodily autonomy. In reality, all people deserve bodily autonomy and care. And in reality, oppressed people are routinely denied both.
The ongoing genocide of Palestinians is perhaps the most extreme and acute expression of the oppression of young and disabled people in the world right now.
This past December, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (a nonprofit based in Gaza) published a report titled Generation Wiped Out: Gaza’s Children in the Crosshairs of Genocide. In this report, they explain how children are specific and intentional targets in this genocide:
"The targeting of children in the Gaza Strip constitutes a central element of a systematic genocide. Since the onset of Israel’s genocidal campaign on 07 October 2023, Israeli leaders have explicitly expressed their intent to annihilate Gaza, including children... a deliberate intent to target children as part of a broader plan to erase and eradicate Palestinian identity and destroy future generations... The report examines these crimes through the lens of Israeli practices and policies since 07 October 2023, materialized by the unprecedented killing of children, causing them severe bodily harm through grave injuries and arbitrary detention. It also highlights the infliction of profound psychological harm. Furthermore, it delves into systematic policies aimed at their destruction, including the weaponizing starvation, the denial of appropriate medical treatment and adequate healthcare, and forced displacement accompanied by deprivation of food, medical care, and shelter. Additionally, it addresses the restriction of children’s right to education."
Make no mistake that this genocide is the ultimate form of the annihilation of resources, care, and autonomy for children, and by extension for all Palestinians who are subject to the most brutal and extreme forms of paternalistic, disabling racialization.
We all need to hold solidarity with the young, disabled people in Palestine. This solidarity is essential to global liberation.
My friend Ahmed Aldani is a disabled teenager living in Gaza right now.
His lifelong disability caused by exposure to gas from a phosphorus bomb before he was even born, and over the course of his life he has experienced additional disabling traumas. Two years ago Israel bombed his home, and more recently even his family's tent was damaged in another bombing.
If it wasn't hard enough to sleep while constantly waking from vivid nightmares, reptiles and poisonous insects easily get into the tent every night. His brother is injured and needs medical attention (a single tablet of his medicine costs €20 euros), and they cannot even afford enough to eat anymore. He is starving, living with constant headaches, dizzy from the lack of nutrition and calories.
Ahmed is a really wonderful person, and deserves resources, support, care, and autonomy. We can be part of a collective community of adults who can help give him some relief and control over his life. Please donate to him.

It's with a heavy but hopeful heart that I watch Palestinian families fundraiser on here, slowly accumulating the precious little money to go around that they need to survive. However, not everyone is so lucky. A lot of Palestinians that have not had that kind of luck, that did not get early verification, that did not get massive platforms behind them from large bloggers, have approached me in my inbox, asking me kindly to do what I can for them. It kills me that I have so little to give myself, but I've seen this platform collectively raise enough to change someone's life. I've made a list of Palestinian fundraisers that are extremely low on funds, in the hope that drawing attention to people who have not been lucky at all can help turn that luck around. I know most of us can't possibly give enough to get all of these families safe in one go. But please, reblog this list. Pick one or two fundraisers, give what you can, and then keep track of it. Slowly, collectively, we can make a difference in these people's lives. Share and donate as much as you can. https://docs.google.com/document/d/178EGDFKkHlh3y4TMVX82kqgITHsqtoMdNccI2f_94Os/edit?usp=sharing

TIME SENSITIVE!
Hey guys i have talked to you about his campaign before but i urgently want to bring your attention back once again to my friend Bilal salah's campaign. This cant wait, so please pay attention.
Bilal ( @bilal-salah0 ) is a 22 year old who moved to germany before the genocide began, and has been raising funds to evacuate his family of 18 from gaza since, including 5 children and 3 newborns.
Bilal's financial support has been getting them through this difficult time, as prices for basic amenities like food and water skyrocket, and necessities like diapers for the babies become scarce due to the blockade.
Currently bilal has raised €66,762 raised of €70,000 goal.
He is less than €4000 away from his goal.
Bilal has been facing problems with his visa in germany and is currently under the threat of deportation. The verdict on that is to arrive in 2 weeks, by August 15th. If he recieves deportation orders, he might be declared stateless by september. He is still caught up in looking for a lawyer to fight this, and due to the uncertainty of his housing situation in the immediate future, he hasn't been able to campaign for his family like he used to before.
I don't know what else we can do for him right now, but the least we can do at the moment is try to get Bilal to his goal so that his family can have this assurance, and so that we can at least ease this one worry off his shoulders. So i am appealing to you to please help him out and get him though that last stretch as soon as possible, he needs all the help he can get.
Please donate any amount you can, and please keep sharing.

Bilal's gfm appears #136 on hussein and nairuz's list of vetted fundraisers so please dont hesitate to donate!
Btw guys bilal has had to up his goal from 70k to 100k in the past few days to cover for the costs of living and bank fees for each transfer till the border opens properly.
He is currently only at €70,670 / €100,000
Please keep supporting him!
Guys despite the urgency, bilals campaign has not seen nearly enough movement as it should have. Since he raised his goal to 100k on account of his family’s living expenses till the border opens and the exorbitant bank fees in gaza right now, it has remained stagnant with very minor upticks in the past few days.
This post has seen too many people celebrating reaching his first goal in the notes when bilal is STILL in need of help and too busy fighting his own deportation in germany to ask for it himself after he has lost his job and his living accomodations recently due to germanys racist policies right now.
Idk what to tell you to make you take this seriously, but bilal needs to reach his goal by august 15th. You cannot get tired of his story now, he cannot afford it.
TIME IS RUNNING OUT. WE HAVE TO RAISE AS MUCH AS WE CAN WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK.
Currently only €72,399 raised of €100,000
Can we please at least get him to €75,000 by as soon as possible? This REALLY can't wait.
€74,851 / €100,000
we only need less than 200 euros before bilal reaches 75K- this is a very urgent matter that requires all of us to lock in. bilal's family cannot afford the majority to become complacent- please help however you can
€74,861 / €100,000
donations are stagnating, only €10 raised since the last update. Bilal needs help quickly, as we do not know what his situation will be like next week. this is highly urgent and cannot wait. please share.
€74,926 / €100,000
only €65 since the last update.
if Bilal is to reach his goal in 8 days, he will need to reach a daily goal of €3134,25 per day. this sounds like a difficult task but i simply cannot give up when Bilal has come so far with his fundraiser already. please, give what you can and share this far and wide.
since people are talking about Imane Khelif, some reminders for discussing intersex issues: "Disorders of sex development" or "DSD" is an intersexist term that contributes to medical violence and social alienation. The correct word is "intersex," a neutral term for the characteristics that the term "DSD" others and pathologizes.
You can be intersex and cis. You can be intersex and trans. A lot of intersex people have more complicated relationships to those concepts/terms. Being cis or trans doesn't make someone more or less intersex.
Gender testing in women's sports is both transmisogynistic and intersexist. In practice it usually impacts intersex cis women because trans women are already disqualified by their social histories. Intersex cis athletes subjected to abuse and discrimination due to gender testing results are victims of intersexism, not "misdirected" or "mistaken" transmisogyny. Intersexism, transmisogyny, and misogynoir all overlap in many ways due to the intertwined histories of sex, gender, and race categories.
"Proof" that an intersex cis woman is not a trans woman (i.e. that she was AFAB'd) will not stop TERFs from attacking her, because TERFs also do not view intersex cis women as real women (case in point).
No one's private medical info should be reported on the news, but when an athlete is outed as intersex in this way, trying to defend their honor by claiming they're not really intersex only reinforces intersexism. Arguing over what kind of intersex variation someone has (e.g. hormonal vs. chromosomal) and whether it "counts" is intersexist and also weird. Leave us alone!
anyway, congrats to Imane on her win, it's not her fault Angela Carini is a bigoted crybaby coward
the olympics are inherently rooted in eugenic ideals (who is the “best” of humanity, as decided by ability) and it’s no surprise that they repeatedly result in discourses and practices of racism, intersexism, and transphobia. no matter how it’s whitewashed through the liberal lens of hard work and achievement, the underlying currents of policing bodies, which are integral to the practice of judging ability, will continue to emerge.
even the sort of surface-level 'anti-TERF' discourse I see still cedes ground that I never want to cede, personally. people will bring up that an athlete is cisgender and has “naturally” higher testosterone levels as a way to articulate the irrationality of the accusations against her, but to me all I can think is— I take hormones, is my body “unnatural” or inauthentic in some way?
The policing of drug use is seen as obvious and naturalized (that would be cheating!) but why? Cheating at what? At one's own embodiment?
(cheating implies being awarded with a value of which one is undeserving. what value would they be given "unjustly"? why does that value exist politically? what is the implied "danger" of awarding it to an undeserving body?)
It's more subtle, to be sure, but I feel if you dig into the logics of it, it comes from a similar logic of the transphobic idea that people are deceptive/unnatural for intentionally altering our bodies. It comes from a similar logic as the claim of “in nature this disabled person would die”— what is “nature” here? If isolated from all other human beings and sources of care, anyone would die.
(deceiving to whom? who is the implicit authority on what is natural? whose gaze must we be authentic before? and why is an "unnatural" body cast as immoral and deceptive? why is survival cast as "unnatural" for some bodies and not others? why is there a negative moral judgement attached to survival for disabled bodies?)
Why invoke the “natural” when justifying our discomfort with people using drugs to adjust their bodies and abilities?
Human bodies are not isolated, they are part of a physical world and constantly altered and influenced by their interactions with it. What enters our bodies--whether that's food, water, drugs, pollution, antibiotics, ammunition, oxygen, heart valves, semen, bacteria, catheters, viruses, vitamins, all of it--fundamentally impacts our bodies and how they look and function.
there is nothing that makes a trans or intersex or disabled body uniquely "unnatural" on a material level--these are all just eugenic judgements leveled on politically devalued bodies.
it is not "cheating" or "deceiving" on any material level to have a body that is intentionally shaped by hormones any more than it is to have a body intentionally shaped by exacting exercise and dieting, or by escaping from warfare, or by getting an abortion.
we all have bodies deeply impacted by the world around us, intentionally and unintentionally. there is no "natural" isolated state of a body to be in.
when bodies are deemed unnatural, that is a purely eugenic designation. it's not a material one.
that's why this bodily policing is leveled, primarily and most severely, on Black women, colonized women, transgender women, intersex women. It is no surprise that these eugenic mechanisms for "proving" someone is disqualified from being considered "physically superior" are brought out specifically for those most deeply politically devalued.
