So, it’s at this point I should make note that I had reattached the gem with another method, and then we washed the white part of the dress, not realizing that the mesh would snag on the command hook velcro and rip holes in it. Despite that, it did look kind of cool.
I took an outrageous amount of selfies as Rose Quartz. Mostly because the people that took my picture with Greg were other con attendees. 8D
Here is my closet cosplay for a genderbent Dean Winchester. I was a touch sad I didn’t get to wear this at the con itself, but that’s okay. Maybe for Halloween this year loool.
I did this for Seta, since he’s also a Markiplier fan and we religiously watched his horror play throughs over skype together and I have super fond memories of that.
Back from Comic Con!
So, SDCC did not go at all how I wanted it to, or how I expected it to, but I had a nice time anyways and I definitely want to go back next year. There was a horrible mix up (more or less) which concluded with the boyfriend and I not having actual badges (when we were promised them through a company that was interested in hiring him), so I didn’t get to wear two of the four costumes I brought (I wore one out to dinner though because I was not going to give up that early), nor did I get to go to any panels I wanted to (mostly Steven Universe ones). I did get to see/meet Markiplier (which was a highlight even if I embarrassed myself horribly) and I bought some pretty neat things. (also, I lowkey believe I took a photo with Johnny Depp, but that’s me being wishful)
Originally, I was going to wear Rose Quartz Day 1, Vivi Day 2, genderbent Dean Winchester Day 3 and genderbent Thomas Raith Day 4, but realistically, I wore Rose Quartz Day 1 and Day 4 (and for a heartbeat on Day 2 before we were told we wouldn’t get in and I was pretty miffed about wasting product), Dean for dinner on Day 1. So, now expect the incoming photo spam.
Day 3 (pt 2) - Rose Quartz and Greg Universe
Real life boyfriend is helpful boyfriend and wanted to a couple cosplay, so literally two days before Day 3, we made him Mr. Universe. He’s still in season one, but he promised to catch up before Comic Con.
Day 3 - Rose Quartz
I have so many words and feelings about this costume. It was the first costume I undertook since my mother’s death, and it had a lot of problems, but it was really beautiful, and I felt so good wearing it and it made me super happy. I loved wearing this costume more than anything. I also had some professional pictures taken, so when those come in, I will post them too (and with more details, you know?). For now, though, I will be remaking the white part of the dress since the bust is its own special hell and the star got horrifically messed up since the fabric kept stretching. I will be troubleshooting a new way to attach the gem without making it permanent (this was the year for magnets). Lastly, I will be adding in drill curls once I have actual proper time, space, and patience. I sometimes do not like the color of the wig, but I will live with my decision.
Day 2 - Blue Ookami
This was just a fun costume, with normal people clothes, ears, tail, and wig. This was my “AX Dance” costume, which I improved upon from last year. I also met MilesJai! 8D And then I also danced on stage at the dance. Very fun, very exhilarating, 10/10 would not do it again.
Day 1 - Vivi from Mystery Skulls Animated Okay, I don’t understand why it’s so hard for me to get pictures of this cosplay, like???? Anyways! Wear #2 of my Vivi Costume. So, this year was particularly hard and vexing as my mom passed away, but I did find flats in a matching color to swap out with my heels when my feet get too achey, but this year I didn’t do that since I was already running off minimal sleep. I also, in that same breath, somehow misplaced the right scarf, hence I had to use an off-color scarf, but whatever. I had a shitty year. I also accidently melted the fibers on my wig, so I had to trim it at the front. Maybe at Comic Con, I’ll be more successful with getting a proper amount of pictures as Vivi.
Rose Quartz is coming.
(Mostly) Completed costume! I always feel like the first debut of the costume is like a trial run and error; you figure out what works, what breaks, what needs improvement. I am overall very satisfied with the costume (the shoes need tweeking/I need an alternate pair of shoes so I don’t run around in heels all day, the scarf needs both starching and a backing so that it stays stiff). Unfortunately, I didn’t take very many photos (but like six people asked to take my picture so that’s an A+, and hugged like two people) because it was hot, I was kind of not very coherent (I was in a fog most of the day), and Seta wasn’t with me. Actually, I didn’t find many reasons, or one reason, to whip out a camera to take pictures, so it was kind of like whatever. However, I met up with my psuedo-sister and I wanted to commemorate our ten years of cosplaying and going to cons together (even if we weren’t together, together)... also we were pink and blue which was amazing.
To some up, I was really happy making this costume, and I was even happier being Vivi, because we totes have so much in common. We are that person who will go into an abandoned shack advertising free hugs.
I POSTED IT AND I FORGOT TO WRITE SOMETHING OOPS. SO I DID A PARTIAL MAKE UP TEST/PUT THE WIG ON WITH THE GLASSES TO SEE HOW IT TURNED OUT. I am still not 100% happy with the glasses, but I should get A+ for effort because I mixed mother fucking paint. Also, companies are stopping their production of glass stain, so I was not a happy camper about that. Now I just need to make the sweater, skirt, stockings and scarf, and make a strap for my shoes... and make the eyelashes and finish doing a proper make up and style the wig more... Should be easy enough. Crunch time, we are a go!
It is damn hard to paint glasses. Well, at least harder than I thought it was going to be. Frick. Also it looks red. 8D; In front of me, it’s totes fuschia.
Part III - the end. There are still some minor adjustments I would like to make to this costume. Such as adding more feathers to my hat. And getting a baldric. But mostly more feathers.
Oh, I totally forgot to mention: the little dragon is not a permanent part of the costume. I would like to make a companion for Amie in the future some day though.
