🌱Self Love Affirmations🌱
I am worthy of receiving the love I give.
I have enough. I do enough. I am enough.
I am proud of myself and all I have accomplished.
I choose to stop apologizing for being me.
I accept myself unconditionally.
I am becoming more confident everyday.

Veiling and The Chakras
Veiling
Many religions, cultures, and other New Age spiritual practices like Wiccans and Witches opt to veil or wear a special hat to protect the crown chakra and cover the head. This helps keep your energy to yourself and other people’s energies out of your personal space. This is nothing new, and many empaths are now choosing to veil themselves with beautiful scarves. However you can use anything that covers your head; a beanie, hat, headband, hood of a jacket or hoodie.

In a stressful, data-driven era, many young people find comfort and insight in the zodiac—even if they don’t exactly believe in it.
“Let me state first that I consider astrology a cultural or psychological phenomenon,” not a scientific one, Bertram Malle, a social cognitive scientist at Brown University, told me in an email. But “full-fledged astrology”—that goes beyond newspaper-style sun-sign horoscopes—“provides a powerful vocabulary to capture not only personality and temperament but also life’s challenges and opportunities. To the extent that one simply learns this vocabulary, it may be appealing as a rich way of representing (not explaining or predicting) human experiences and life events, and identifying some possible paths of coping.”
Healing 101: Identifying Blockages
Disclaimer: Spiritual/Magickal Healing should NEVER replace mundane treatment. If you have a physical or mental illness or health issues see a professional. Always check mundane causes before jumping to spiritual conclusions.
Blockages are an icky thing that happen to everyone for a multitude of reasons: Stress, tension, repressed emotions, physical ailments, trauma, a lack of grounding, and more. Depending on the severity they can manifest in a way that has you feeling them in/on your physical body - especially if you’re energy sensitive. They are an obstacle in your energy flow and thus bring it out of its normal flow when present. This creates an inbalance in your system and results in different issues including, but not limited to:
• Constant fatigue • Being easily irritated • Trouble focusing • Negative feelings • Trouble grounding, cleansing, or doing other types of energy work • Being spiritually/magickally “closed off” • Being unable to express yourself properly
Note that this isn’t a comprehensive and end-all be-all list. Also, again, be sure to check for mundane causes first.
So, how do you find a blockage? You could ask a healer or energy reader that can detect these things. If you want to do it yourself, there are multiple methods. I’m going to list two.
Method 1
• Sit down somewhere. It works standing as well, but I prefer sitting. • Take your hand. If you have a specific technique to make it more energy sensitive, use it now. • Go over your body with it. Whether you hover over it or touch it is down to preferance; I prefer to hover. • Send out “sensers” that you glide into your energy system. • Search through it, if you feel a resistance or an icky feeling somewhere, dig deeper. Maybe the energy is just a bit heavier or thicker there. Maybe it’s an energy point. Maybe it’s a blockage. • Do that with your whole body. You DON’T have to be able to reach everywhere, just lengthen your energetic sensers for parts you can’t touch/reach, like between your shoulders.
Method 2
(This method requires astral traveling.) • Lie or sit down. • Get into a comfortable position. If you need to be in a trance or meditative state to Astral Travel, do that here. • Now, reach one of your astral body’s hands out. • Put it inside your energetic body. It doesn’t really matter where - personally, I like to start at the head or feet. • Make sure to focus on your (Astral) hand and then start to go everywhere in your body with it. Feel it out. Any resistances? Icky feelings? How does the energy feel? • Take note of any sensations you get. If something feels off, take a closer look.
Types of Blockages
@chaosjelly has a really good post about blockages and anomalies here. I will only extend on his list - read it if you haven’t before.
1. Messy Thread “Balls”. These are blockages that form when energies get cuddled up on their way through your system. These appear as bundles of, most often but not always, thin energy threads. They let energy through, though not as much as if there wasn’t a blockage, but not in its regular flow. The energy that comes through is more “confused” and disoriented, often not staying on its original path.
2. Walls. These are similar to the rocks Jelly mentioned. They can be tall, small, thin, thick, rectangular, oval, etc. but they’re all very stiff and strong. These let very little if any energy through and often create dams.
3. Dams. These mostly form in combination with other blockages as it’s rare that energy starts to accumulate in these amounts without something else being in the way. Dams are exactly that: Accumulations of so much energy at one point that it starts to get thicker and taller until it stays in its place, creating an obstacle for the rest of the energy. How much energy they let through depends on how thick and tall the dam blockage is.
4. Hard Energy. Not necessarily a blockage but still troublesome. Optimally, Energy flows with ease and is flexible in its way. Due to a bunch of different possible reasons it can harden and with that normally slows down. Not rarely it even stops. The rest has to make it’s way around it and the energy is more prone to catching unwanted properties.
This is not an end-all-be-all guide, but I still hope it helps! Here are my other healing posts so far (will be updated once new ones are made):
Healing 101: Different Types of Healing Healing 101: Removing Blockages Healing 101: Helper Orbs
Witchcraft 101: Core concepts (energy work)
You’ve probably heard “energy work” mentioned, or at least one of the following terms: grounding, shielding, cleansing, raising, charging, visualising, casting. You’ll see these terms in spells and rituals as well as textbooks and theoretical discussions. There are other posts for theory; this post aims to give a rundown of multiple basic concepts of energy work to get you up and running. (Or at least, to help you understand other posts.) Bear in mind that much of this is personal opinion. Since everyone sees energy differently, in my “how-tos” I’ll refer to energy generally - fill in your own views.
Also, in my methods, I mention “get comfortable” a lot - exactly what that means varies, depending on what I’m doing and wearing, but generally, stop fiddling with anything, and make sure you’re in a comfortable position, whatever the position is. You could be standing, sitting, lying down, moving, dancing - whatever, so long as you’re comfortable.
Visualising
What is visualisation?
I consider visualisation to be a core concept to energy work in general. Visualisation is, essentially, thought. It’s imagination and memory and emotions all rolled up into one. (This is heavy on personal opinion, by the way.) Visualisation is what makes your intent for a spell come to fruition; if you aren’t holding your intent (i.e. thinking about/visualising it) while casting it, you can’t expect your spell to work the way you intended it to.
How do you visualise?
As mentioned above, everyone sees energy differently, and your way may not be the same as mine. My basic visualisation method can be seen in the way I do any time of energy work: I get comfortable, close my eyes and steady my breath, and I focus on feeling and “seeing” the energy around me (I view all energy as white, incidentally). Say I’m cleansing something, my first step is to hold the object, focus on how it feels (is it cold, smooth, rough?) and “see” it glowing with a white light (energy). Then I’ll move onto cleansing it (see below).
Your method will be different, but you could start with this or look through other posts for ideas.
Grounding
What is grounding?
Grounding, basically, is all about ridding yourself of unwanted energy/getting your energy in balance. I kind of view it as a warm-up: you’re getting yourself in the right frame of mind and the right physical state before a workout (or spell).
How do you ground yourself?
Everyone has their own techniques, and in time, you’ll develop yours. This is my routine:
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
As you exhale, imagine unwanted energy leaving your body.
As you inhale, imagine the energy you want and need pulling comfortably around you.
Continue for as long as you like.
Many people like to visualise different places, or contact with nature. Try different techniques and take what you like from them, and just go with what works for you.
Cleansing
What is cleansing?
Cleansing is like setting a device back to factory settings, or washing the dishes so they can be used again. You cleanse something to rid it of any unwanted energies - kind of like grounding, but for something that isn’t you. You could cleanse spaces and objects, and it’s generally a good idea to cleanse any items you’ve used before as well as the space you’re using before beginning a spell. It’s also generally a good idea to cleanse anything you use for divination, like tarot cards and pendulums (but I totally don’t cleanse them as often as I should). You can use just visualisation, or you can use tools - water, salt, incense and sage are all pretty common tools for cleansing.
How do you cleanse?
My method for objects that you can hold:
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
Hold the item and focus on how it feels - its shape, size, temperature, texture, and scent.
While holding the item, now focus on how it looks (with or without opening your eyes) - its colour, decorations, the way the light falls/reflects on it.
Still holding the item, visualise energy glowing/pulsing around the object.
Still holding the item, visualise the energy flowing away from the object, leaving it without any glowing energy.
Continue until you feel like the object is cleansed.
My method for a space, area, or room:
Clear the space you plan on using (physically - move unwanted objects out of the way, pick up any rubbish etc).
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
Mark the parameters of the space you’re going to use (this can be a whole room or just part of one - just mentally or physically figure out where the “ends” of your spell space are). I generally walk around the edges of my space.
Focus on how the space around you feels and looks - temperature, light, textures etc.
Visualise energy glowing/pulsing within the boundaries of your space.
Visualise energy flowing away from the space - if you have a broom, you could sweep the area while visualising the energy moving away as you sweep. You could also use incense or herb bundles while visualising energy moving away from the smoke as you move through the space.
Continue until you feel like the space is cleansed.
Warding
What is warding?
Basically, warding is putting up a shield to stop anything unwanted interfering with your spell, tools, ingredients, intent, belongings, etc.. It’s like an antivirus on a device, or a lock on a door. You could put up wards around your spell space, your home, yourself, anything you own, other people (with their consent) - pretty much anything.
How do you put up wards?
My method for putting up wards:
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
Mark the parameters of the space or thing you’re putting up wards around (this could be running your finger around a crystal, walking around an area, stretching your arms and legs out to mark the parameters of your body, etc.)
Focus on how the space or thing feels and looks - temperature, light, textures etc.
Visualise energy glowing/pulsing within the space or thing.
Visualise unwanted energy flowing away from the space - like with cleansing, you could use incense or a broom to aid your visualisation.
Visualise “walls” growing up, over and under the space or object. It’s important that the walls connect, and there aren’t any gaps (unless you want to visualise, say, a door that you can enter and leave from).
Continue until you feel like the space or thing is warded.
Raising
What is raising energy?
Raising energy is like creating or compiling energy with a specific purpose (intent). Up until now, we’ve been looking at ways of using energy to prepare yourself, your environment and your tools for spells - raising energy is a bit different. The energy that we raise has a specific intent, and generally, we want to use that intent somehow - like in a spell.
How do you raise energy?
There are so, so many different ways to raise energy - such as music, chanting, dancing, walking, laughing, exercising, and a whole bunch of others. You can also raise energy by visualisation alone - as I describe here.
My method for raising energy:
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
If they aren’t already, position your hands so that your palms are open.
Focus on what you want to happen - your intent.
Visualise energy pulsing from your fingertips. The energy moves over your fingers and towards your palm, where it collects. As you do this, keep focusing on your intent.
Visualise the energy, now in your palm, growing larger and larger. As you do this, keep focusing on your intent.
Continue until you feel you have the energy you wanted, or for as long as you like.
If you’re raising energy from, say, dancing, you might visualise the energy coming from your feet or body instead - I adapt this depending on the activity, but I always like to have a way to “gather” energy in one area. This could be your whole spell area, or it could be an area like the palm of your hand - whatever works for you and the activity.
Charging
What is charging?
Charging is drawing on energy from elsewhere and putting it into an object to give that object intent. Think charging your phone, or laptop. You can also take energy you’ve raised and put it into an object - the energy can come from anywhere. People often have specific correspondences for different sources, however - so think about the source of the energy if you aren’t raising it yourself.
How do you charge something?
Like with raising energy, there are entirely too many methods to list here. Some examples include leaving objects in sunlight or moonlight and bathing it in water or fire. You can pretty much do anything, so don’t be afraid to experiment. If you’re raising energy, you can just put it straight into the object (see the method below). If you’re charging something without raising energy yourself, then you can skip this and consider it charged after as much or as little time as you think works.
My method for charging objects:
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
Visualise the energy, now in your palm, growing larger and larger. (This is the energy collected by raising energy, with a specific intent.)
Hold the object you want to charge (with one hand if you visualised the energy going to one palm, or with both hands if you visualised the energy going to both palms) and visualise the energy flowing into the object from your palm(s). Continue focusing on your intent as you do this.
Continue until you feel that all the energy you raised is now in the object, or for as long as you like.
Once you’ve charged an object, you can leave it indefinitely and use it in a later spell (though if you’re forgetful like me, you might want to put a post-it near it reminding you what you’re using it for).
Casting
What is casting?
Casting is guiding your energy towards the outcome you want. For me, this is the most important part of any spell - this is when you put all that work into making shit happen. So it’s important to be very, very specific. Don’t just focus on needing a job. Focus on finding a job that is right for you, will help you meet your professional goals (you can be specific about the goals, too) and will meet your needs (availability, hours, pay, travel time, benefits etc.), and finding that job at a time that suits you. This is also where you can really have fun with visualising!
How do you cast?
My method for casting:
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
Hold the object(s) you’ve charged, or your spell (if it’s a tangible thing, like spell bags, candles, food etc.).
Visualise the situation you want to happen. As described, be specific. If you’re looking for a job, you could visualise a “you’re hired” email, dated at some point that suits you, with the above information that suits you - the hours you want, the pay you want, etc. Morph that situation into your first day, meeting friendly and efficient coworkers and management, then six months or a year into your new job. Visualise yourself feeling productive, happy, and relaxed. Visualise yourself at a review, hearing that you’re doing well and you’ve made great progress.
Now visualise the energy in your spell moving “towards” that situation. (I like to “keep” the situation in one part of my spell space, usually in the air in front of me, so I can “see” the energy from the spell I’m holding moving towards it.
Continue until you feel that all the energy from your spell has “made it” to the situation, or for as long as you like.
Bringing it all together
So, this looks like quite a lot. I promise it’s easier in practice, especially once you’ve done it a few times. Also, remember that this is a post that largely focuses on visualisation - you can minimise effort by charging objects in light or water (aka leaving them on a windowsill for a few hours) instead of by using visualisation to raise power and charge them.
In practice, a routine for a spell might look like:
Ground yourself.
Cleanse your space, and any tools or ingredients you’re going to use.
Put up wards.
Raise power (you could raise power individually for individual ingredients, or all at once for all your ingredients).
Charge your ingredients (either individually, or all at once).
Cast your spell.
Personally, I can do the first 3 in about 5-10 minutes altogether. The last three are more time-consuming, and could take 5-10 minutes each, per item. So a quick, simple spell with no ingredients could be cast in 15 minutes (I would just skip charging and put the raised energy straight to casting). Let’s take an example of a kitchen spell, making soup:
Ground self.
Cleanse space, tools, ingredients.
Put up wards around the kitchen.
Raise power while doing food prep.
Put ingredients in pot.
Charge ingredients through stirring - energy goes into the soup through the wooden spoon.
Leave to simmer and continue charging.
Cast spell by eating.
When I do kitchen magic, I’m already doing most of this just by cooking. I just add more visualisation in, and put some thought into the ingredients, and I have a spell!
I hope this helps! You might find my other posts helpful:

Astrology, the Basics
“Wait, so i’m not just an Aries?!”
No, you’re not. In fact none of us are just one anything. So let’s dial it back to day we were born. The stars and planets in the sky aligned to convey a story completely unique to you, and thus your natal chart was born!
Our Sun sign
“Playboi, what’s a Sun Sign?”
Well, the Sun Sign is the sign everyone typically knows about themselves. It’s the sign you were born under that immediately correlates with your birthday. Meaning, “I was born in April so I’m a Taurus!” Your sun sign is the sign the Sun was in on the day of your birth. So what does the sun represent in astrology? Our vitality and ego, “who we are.” The thing about the Sun is we’re constantly growing into ourselves and our egos, constantly learning ourselves and strengths, so we’re constantly growing into our Suns. Many people write off astrology due to their inability to relate to their Sun signs when so much more goes into a person. Your Sun sign is less “who i am” and more so “who i’m becoming.” And sometimes we never fully become the poster child of our Sun signs because we grow at different rates and resonate with different things, not to mention the housing of the Sun plays a heavy role in how our “egos” will play out. Also aspects made to our Sun by other planets are most important as they shape our Sun’s characteristics, but that’s another post!
Our Moon Sign
“…okay, so I understand Sun Signs now, but what’s a moon sign?”
The moon sign in astrology is of immense importance. This is where we feel most comfortable and secure and our primal emotional reactions. As I mentioned previously, the sun is “who we’re becoming’’ while the moon can be defined as “who we always are.” Unlike the Sun who illuminates everything, the moon is a softer, dimmer light. It lights up the dark sky at night and it does the same for our personal dark sky emotionally. Simply put, the moon is our emotions. Emotions can be simply irrational and erratic, so we suppress them because throwing a hissy fit in public is not that endearing. My point being that our moons can sometimes be overlooked by others as well as our selves because the attributes of our moons are highly subconscious at times. The moon is how we were nourished, and in turn how we nourish others. It’s an extremely sentimental and personal part of our being. It’s what makes us feel safe as well as habitual patterns we carry. A balanced moon is very important as an unbalanced one can take a toll on us physically. When the needs our moon requires aren’t met, we can start to display it’s negative attributes and fall into a bit of a depression, eat less, and never leave your bed. Or perhaps become more aggressive and angry depending on your moon sign. It’s also equally important to understand that others around us have different moon placements then us natally. Everyone requires different things to feel emotionally secure, sometimes we’re harder on others because their love languages differ from our own.
Our Mercury Sign
“What does Mercury have to do with anything?”
Well, everything. Mercury rules over the mind, how we think, how fast we think, how we learn, our speech, and even our style of writing. He’s the fastest moving planet in the solar system so it’s fitting that he rules the nervous system. The poor guy gets glossed over a lot until he turns retrograde and everyone starts running around like chickens missing their heads because that’s when we notice most how strong Mercury’s influence is on our lives. Mercury is not an emotional planet but more so an intellectual one. It’s how we asses things and use logic before we act, if we use logic before we act.
Our Venus Sign
“I KNOW THIS ONE…LOVE RIGHT?”
You’ve guessed it, Venus rules over romance but a lot more as well. She’s our social graces, if we have any social graces at all. How we charm others as well as what we personally find pleasurable. Venus rules over our attitude towards money and material things. How much we spend and how often we treat ourselves. What we like to eat, what tastes good, what feels good. Venus is also our attractiveness, and what we’re attracted to. She gives us a clue to our love language on a more superficial level, what it takes to woo us. How we like to be seduced and pursued. Venus is diplomatic, she shows us how we make peace with others. Venus also rules over artistry and how appreciate the arts and even the possibility of having artistic gifts as well. Venus also highlights our sexual nature in terms of what we find pleasurable, what feels right, and what we find acceptable.
Our Mars Sign
“Mars is our…anger?”
He can be, yes. After all he is the God of War. Mars in astrology represents energy. Our physical energy and vitality, and especially our sexual energy. He’s all about action, what it physically takes us to do…well, anything. He’s our day to day strength and drive. He exemplifies how aggressive and assertive we are. Our ambitions, durability, temperament, action, and drive. Do we exercise? How sexual are we? Our sexual style? Our competitiveness? All can be answered by our mars sign. Mars showcases how quick we are to anger, what makes us tick/explode. He’s also the last of the personal planets.
Our Jupiter Sign
“……”
Jupiter is the first non personal planet as it stays in the same for an entire year. Everyone born within that year will have the same Jupiter sign. That doesn’t negate Jupiter’s importance in anyway, so don’t skim over him. It just means we have take a closer look at him in our natal chart by examining his house placement and aspects made towards him by other planets. Jupiter rules over good fortune, philosophy, travel, and higher level learning (different from mercury.) He is expansive and optimistic. He’s a grand catalyst to spiritual growth. He’s where we overindulge, our generosity, and wisdom.
Our Saturn Sign
“So what does Saturn do?”
Saturn is like our astrological father. He sets the rules and regulations, the routine. And like when we disobey our paternal father there’s consequences the same applies for Saturn. Saturn is not out to punish anyone, he just returns anything we put out into the universe. “What goes around comes around.” Sound familiar? Saturn rules over Karma. Saturn in our chart shows us where he grounds us, where we must be held responsible, where we must work hard. Our careers, the practicality of how we achieve success.
Our Uranus Sign
“and Uranus?”
Uranus is a much slower moving planet. His energy is very erratic, spontaneous, and rebellious. He’s extremely progressive and an advocate for originality. Uranus has to be looked at by house placement to determine its effects on us individually, as people from the same generation will share the same Uranus sign. Uranus in our charts will show us where we are unpredictable and rebellious. How and where we go against the grain. Our humanitarian side. How interested in activism we are, where we are liberated ourselves.
Our Neptune Sign
“that Sea God?”
Indeed. Neptune is the God of the Sea. In astrology Neptune rules over spirituality, all things hazy, confusion, love and romance on a deeper, ethereal level. He is illusions and our dreams. Intuition and psychic abilities. Neptune has dominion over deeper creativity and artistic abilities. He also shows us where we might try to escape reality and what we may try to use to escape reality with. He is addiction, substance abuse, and deception. Our fantasies.
Our Pluto Sign
“isn’t Pluto like not even a planet anymore?”
Yes, technically Pluto is a planetoid, but we still refer to Pluto as a planet in astrology so he will be respected as such! Despite his small size and the grand amount of distance he is from us his effects are undeniable.Pluto in our charts shows us where we are transformed and regenerated. Where we must die to be born again. His energy is very subconscious, we don’t always see it, but we feel it. He is obsession, and our hunger for power, where we struggle for power. He is how we react to sex on a deeper, subconscious level. Where and what we become drawn and attached to. His energy is very primal. He also highlights where we’re manipulative or jealous if we’re displaying the negative attributes of Pluto.
Our Ascendant Sign
“our…what sign?”
Our Ascendant sign is crowned the ruler of our chart, and is of equal importance as our Sun and Moon signs. It’s specific to our birth time and location. The Ascendant is like the mask we put on to face the world. It’s our initial reaction to external forces. The lens we see life through on a day to day basis. Our ascendant is our physical bodies, how we look and how we act in public. It’s how people initially receive you, our first impressions, our mannerisms. Our outer personality. If people were to describe you they’d likely describe this sign.
So, as you can see a lot goes into a persons personality even more than what’s been mentioned above, humans are complex beings who can’t be described as just one sign, or one anything. We are more than our sun signs, we are more than signs period.
- playboi
Thanks for this!!

A Deep Room Cleanse
The state of my room is extremely important to me. It’s a direct reflection of my mental health, so when it’s messy, my energy levels are low and I just feel yucky. There’s no way I’m getting any kind of work done, magical or mundane. When it feels good and clean to be in, it’s a lot easier to deal with my symptoms and be productive. You don’t have to do every step every time of course, but each step has helped me so I figured a list like this might help someone.
Change the lighting. Use natural sources of light (like pulling back the curtains and letting the sun in) over artificial ones. If you have salt lamps to turn on, those are still very nice. If you need artificial light to keep it from being too dark, try to prioritize light bulbs you like the color of, and ones that don’t whistle quietly when they’re on.
Change the airflow. Open a window, if you can. Often our rooms feel yucky because the air is stale. Get some fresh air moving. If it’s too cold, it’s okay to only keep it open for a few minutes or put on a coat while you work because you’re stubborn like me.
Change the sound. Put on your favorite cleansing music. Let it soak into the room. I tend to go or ambient spa stuff, or playlists that sound built for a rainy day. (Note: the music that helps you cleanse the best may not be the same as what you like the most. The playlist should keep you focused/uplifted while you work and reflect the vibes you want your room to have.)
Change the smell. Take out the trash, maybe refresh the sheets on your bed. Light a scented candle, some incense, heat up some oil, something to make your room smell distinctly different from the mucky-feeling room from before. (If your method of choice is something short like a room spray, I actually like doing it at the very end.)
Actually clean and organize. Nothing junks up the energy of a room more quicker than actual junk. Organize everything as much as you can (this might mean finally gutting your closet, even if you can close the door and hide it.) Wipe down any surfaces that need it, get everything fresh and functional again. Do some laundry while you work. If you have clothes or trinkets that are just collecting dust, extra points for purging them!
Cleanse any sacred spaces by themselves. A lot of us have altars or shrines in our rooms. A sacred space can also be just an extra important area of your room, like a reading nook. Make sure to give them extra attention! You don’t need to wipe the board energetically (and probably shouldn’t), but taking a little extra time to clean surfaces, straighten up, and make sure everything feels okay on them goes a long way.
Cleanse in your regular way. Bust out the herb bundles, the bells, the ribbons, the broom, whatever you usually do to cleanse a space! The room is SUPER primed for it now, most of the negative energy probably already feels removed if not broken down. A good once-over with your favorite cleansing method should finish it off nicely.
Refresh any wards or protections. Self explanatory. If you maintain energy borders in your room, now is a good time to check in on them and zhoosh them if needed. Keep the space clean for longer!
Practice self-care. Take a shower, a nap, eat some food, whatever you need. You’ve put in a lot of work and you deserve it.

You Can Love the Dead
Ancestor work can seem time consuming, stuffy, or scary for some depending on their relationship with the departed. But it doesn’t have to be! Ancestor work is some of the easiest stuff to do, and if you come from certain cultures or religions, you’re already doing it.
First things first, I’m the realest. Sorry. There are generally three types of ancestors people work with.
Familial ancestors: the people who you have blood ties too or family connection to. These can be siblings, parents, grandparents, cousins, favorite uncle Harold or even stuffy aunt Rebecca.
Local Ancestors: sometimes referring to them as historical ancestors helps people get this one. In its simplest form, they’re the spirits of those who inhabited spaces before you. These can be the sweet old man who taught you checkers and about local animals, the “odd” woman no one talked to who would give you a cookie and showed you the difference between peppermint and spearmint when you walked home. The town founders, the previous owner of your home etc. as far back as you’d like.
Spiritual Ancestors: are those who paved the groundwork for where you are and where you want to go spiritually. People who’s lives and paths are parallel to yours, or those who gave examples of what to do in your life. A lot of times, these are witches who were prominent in their community such as Marie Laveau, Elizabeth Gowdie, Agrippa, Cleopatra etc. think of them almost like how Catholics work with saints if that helps.
These ancestors can be worked with through different means. Spirit communication works for some, but it can be as simple as a picture of them, or drawing/whatever that you say hi to. Vent to. Share you dreams with.
I light a candle and say thanks, sometimes I’ll leave a crystal, or shot of whiskey, a cigarette, or something that I know they would like, or that I think they’d like. You can take it as far as you’d like! Some people treat these ancestral spirits almost as patron spirits, and others just appreciate the feeling of closeness with those they loved.
There’s really nothing to be scared of, and no law that says you have to interact with all of the types, or even all of your family ancestors. I personally don’t have a good relationship with my mother’s family, so I don’t work with them, simple.
Find what works for you, ask for guidance, assistance, share your love and appreciation. Set boundaries if you need to. No contact before 9AM on sundays. Don’t call me, I’ll call you. *Insert names of spirits* may not come into my space. Etc etc.
You do you boo.
🦇Cheers, Barberwitch
