That is all I want in life: for this pain to seem purposeful.

overhear?  it wasnât as though he was purposefully eavesdropping.  couldnât exactly help that the magnitude of sound during their conversation was something he was quite acutely attuned to.  either way, he hadnât exactly made it a secret that he was there⌠Â
âenough.â
a simple enough answer. Â heâd heard pretty much every word, other than where perhaps a car had passed on the street with an engine blurring some of the terms. Â and perhaps itâs enough that he wasnât raging like some kind of crazy person about the topic of their discussion which might give just a little something away.
âthough you didnât seem particularly concerned that you might become the subject of sating that â appetite.â
a slight raise of brow.  and now that sheâs closer, thereâs a light scent on the breeze to occupy some of the gaps â sheâs human.  definitely not vampire, not wolf⌠but âhumanâ didnât always mean â âjustâ human.
Vincent remained unflinching at the idea of a vampire existing at all, even less, one feeding to its heartâs content just a ways away from him. It was her only tell that the man was more than human. Of course, there was a rare chance that he was simply aware, but Bellamy found it unlikely. Back in her old town, factions made sure not to let one too many civilians learn about the supernatural world, for the sake of containing that  c h a o s . With the amount of shadow creatures Arcadia has been rumored to bring in, she wondered how useless that order was here.Â
Bellamy didnât doubt how careless she must have looked, turning her back to a vampire, whether or not he was walking away, was a reckless choice for anyone. And, despite what little happiness she had left to lose, Bellamy had learned early on how to manage the ones who burned in the sun. Sheâd only ever been bitten once. It wasnât for lack of trying.Â
âIâve dealt with them before. Feels like a formula, after awhile.â
 jacobdashwood:
âNot a view? What else would it be love?â If he couldnât get the changes he started to need after freeing Alexandre by leaving this town and finding his fun elsewhere, he needed to do that with the people who were stupid enough to move in. Stupid for humans because a lot of them wouldnât even be able to leave alive, stupid for supernaturals because they had walked right into a cage.
âYou are right, darling. I am terribly neglicient here. Jacob Dashwood. Pleasure to meet you, without a doubt.â
Bellamy fell silent, eyes squinted as she watched the man across from her. She noticed that, even in the way he carried himself, Jacob Dashwood reeked of refinement. The kind that, at least, to give him some credit, not a lot of vampires in her old home managed to own without being ridiculed. And yes, she didnât know for certain he was anymore than an old fashioned man, likely minding his own business and sauntering about Connecticut without malicious intent. It was easily her greatest downfall, an unshakeable instinct to see the world through the eyes of the wicked and not the kind-hearted. Still she clung to it like her only strength.
âPleasureâs mine, Jacob Dashwood. Iâm Bellamy.âÂ
tatianawitchdoctor:
â â I donât have time for this right now.â The witch interrupted the person whoâd accosted her as soon as sheâd gotten out of her car.Â
The  underground-garage was dimly lit and practically empty. It made sense at this hour, and in this place. Taliaâs funeral wasnât until tomorrow; but the body had been brought here fifteen minutes ago. She knew the coroner had come along, and was hoping to catch either the man or the casket before the place closed up for the night.
Bellamy couldnât bite back the scoff, which was as annoyed as it was surprised by the immediate response sheâd gotten. Of all the ways Bellamy pictured this conversation to go, struck down before the surgeon so much as got a good look at her was not on her list of expectations. The dismissal pricked at her ego, but Bellamy remained cautious. The last thing she should be, if Tatiana was to hear her out, was arrogant. A trait which had felt a bit like a second face, after all the people sheâd gone through to make her way here. Patiently, Bellamy breathed in and addressed the witch now walking away from her.Â
âDr. Brown, youâre going to want to hear what I have to say.âÂ
Iâm looking pretty hard.

âI know how to remember faces and yours is one Iâm fairly sure I havenât seen before. Besides, no, we donât get much newcomers here.â There werenât a lot of people that foolish to move into a town that started to get known about its murder rate instead of the scenery. âAnd I happen to love a change of view.â, he grinned.
âNot a view.â She corrected, her tone dripping with a certain apathy which shouldnât have been there. Since the death of her sister itâd been this way. As though a vacuum had ripped away her convictions, handed every drop of it to a crueler idea; a desire to avenge.. During the long months after the murder, each abandoned drop of passion for the better things stung like bleach stripping the skin. Now, at least, the Supreme lived comfortably. Numbed, some would say.
âWell, if youâre so keen on introductions. How about we start with yours?â Â
wintersalpha:
interesting.  insult a vampire and then spend a moment daydreaming.  perhaps the word he was looking for wasnât â interesting⌠but more â foolish.  though whether the vampire chose to make her his next intended prey, and whether the woman herself might even be aware of that ( seemingly so, given their conversation ) - did rather lend itself to an assumption, tentative in itâs formation - that this âhumanâ might be something more than just another vapid slab of meat trolling the streets of this small town.
however - heâs not exactly â lingering â heâs seated, quite comfortably, on a public bench.  and he will never be surprised at the displays of quite public revelation that heâs witnessed here so far.  it wasnât as though the supernatural was much of a closely guarded secret in arcadia.  dead bodies - exsanguinated corpses, shredded flesh, all manner of gruesome deaths littering every other street corner.  not to mention those other overtly public displays of⌠airing dirty laundry⌠that heâs borne witness to.  the dead rather did outnumber the living here.  heâs surprised they still have room in their cemetery⌠let alone the morgue.  ( and he hasnât even gotten started yet⌠).
however - as she seems to regain some manner of - presence - back from whatever little daydream might have caught her imagination, and notices him⌠vincent - ever the gentleman, simply offers a kindly nod, a flicker of that suavely charming smile - and indicates with a small gesture of his hand, that she might join him on that wide, wooden bench â if she so wished.
An unreadable expression stayed on her features. Vincentâs smile, charming as it may be, wasnât granted anything in return, but a faint curiosity. Wallflowers didnât usually beckon the ones theyâd been observing with a well-meaning gesture. The possibility that the man up ahead was one who lived life like a spectator sport was a bit of a reach, if his size and posture said anything about him.Â
Still -- Nothing was impossible. He could have any kind of personality, be a fool or a king. Well, that was a bad analogy. Most kings were fools. He could be...Well, sheâd never fill in the blanks standing from this distance.
Opting to play the yes-man for as long as she remained foreign to Arcadiaâs ways, Bellamy made her way to the bench and settled on the opposite corner with a cross of her legs.
âHow much did you overhear?â she asked, comfortable with being forward.

Asia. Japan. Tricksters. Folk Tales. All these words and more were bookmarked and stamped onto a box in her mind she hoped to peer over later, should she actually have the time to do so. He would walk away without answering her, and Bellamy should have noticed it from the start. If she had, she wouldnât have waited until heâd begun to leave her to speak out.Â
âHey.â she called, eyes on the Kitsune who wished to disappear entirely from her sight. She didnât like finding things out for herself anymore. It felt like an obligation more than something to do out of interest, but this was more the latter. What would a thing like him, whatever he was, have to do with Evelyn, with the coven? Nothing, but â it was far easier in that moment to focus on how he was useful for what he seemed to know. That â as far as she was concerned â would be the only reason sheâd ask him to linger.Â
âGive me a name.âÂ
Her words teetered between a request and an order, like the way the trees struggled to bow to billowing wind. Bellamy had been learning for some time now, how to break her spine in search of the answers she wanted. She hoped not to do more in that instant than was worthwhile, but in the face of something brand new, a bit of her old self peeked through. A piece that was hungry to learn.
Ray raised an eyebrow as he looked at the woman once more, observing her and trying to figure out what was the point of his name. For her to research him? He already told her about him being a kitsune. Beyond that she probably doesnât need to know, or really care to know, about who Ray as a person was. The foster homes didnât, the Setos didnât, and Evelyn didnât.Â
Why would a simple woman who spotted him performing his abilities do anything different?
âRay Vangâ He gave her the reply, slightly curious as to what she will do with it. Perhaps nothing. Maybe she will surprise him and look up all the information he has given her. There might be a slim, very slim, chance that she will actually look deeper. Find out the fact that he is connected to a coven that is ultimately going to kill him. Drain him of life the longer his freedom is out of his grasp. Too long he has been denied the chance to be completely free, able to do whatever he desired. All for the sake of his sister⌠The fact that he would still give her the moon and stars if she asked still meant something.Â
âUntil next timeâ He gave her a nod, not asking for a name. They were all trapped here anyways. Ray is certain that they will run into each other again, seeing as there is no end in sight for this barrier. Not until dear Evelyn regains her power. Which he secretly hoped was never⌠That there can be another way to destroy the barrier while she was weak.Â

No wonder heâs antsy. The supreme shamelessly sized the vampire up, brows shooting upwards at the question that spilled from his mouth. Whatever authority the witches in her hometown had, she didnât always encounter a hungry vampire who asked permission to leave the conversation.Â
They growled, they whimpered, they stupidly tried to assert authority, but this one did like none of the above.Â
Maybe he was just dumb, she thought, arms crossed lazily over her ribs as she glanced at the path behind him. A signal that if he wanted to leave, she had no intent to follow.Â
âGreat. Bye.â With that, Erik was gone in the direction that the girl had gone in but by the time he got there she was now surrounded by friends, totally distracted and unaware of the very hungry vampire that had been stalking after her.Â
âGreat. Just great.â Mumbling to himself, Erik left the bar and wandered out onto the street.
rayvang:
âNo you wouldnâtâ Ray agreed, glancing over at the man slumped over. The lack of knowledge confirms his suspicions that many are not aware of the kitsune lore. Much less that one was roaming around Arcadia. âI would tell you to do some research but⌠You will not find much. Tales of wives and mothers who became tricksters is something that many civilizations have.â Even more so about his kind. There is the generic tales and stories but he doubt that the Arcadia library or college in the town would have anything remotely useful. Of course a demonstration would be beneficial but that would use more energy and he would need to be a bit careful. Last time he brought someone into that world willingly had gone awry. Looking back at the woman he took a step back, getting ready to walk away.Â
âI suppose you will simply have to learn and find outâ Ray raised an eyebrow, âHope you were staying in town for awhile.â He was surprise how much he was talking⌠But perhaps it was the fact that she has already seen him use his abilities. The mask can only stay on for so long after that.Â

apparently the young woman could do with a few lessons in the âart of subtletyâ herself.  vincent, however, had been more than content to watch the scene from a bench on the other side of the park â unobtrusive, non-invasive.  simply - observant.  though with the acute hearing afforded to his species, heâs not altogether âabsentâ from the proceedings.
and a contrite narration to the other individual about their actions was also â not smart. Â especially in this town, where one never really knew to whom - or more precisely - to what - one was speaking.
he wonders if she bears any heed to her own words, or whether itâs simply an opinionated, entitled drawl.  however, thereâs only a small smirk as he waits for whatever it is to unfold.  it wasnât every day that he was provided with such open amusement after allâŚ
Once the vampire across from her retreated in a huff, Bellamy averted her gaze. She did wonder if she should put a stop to his second attempt at bleeding someone dry for dinner. Was it her responsibility anymore? The question answered itself, from a decisiveness come alive in the front-lines of her mind long ago. She didnât know the rules in Arcadia. Banter with a hungry vampire should be nothing more, until she understood better what kind of order the small town had. Or until she needed something from him. Stepping over to where Erik had nearly begun his meal, Bellamy studied the leaves on the ground.Â
âSkye, are you serious?â The fit of giggles from her younger sister were an airstrike to her scowl. Bellamy nearly stopped looking annoyed as she watched the pile of orange and red leaves cave in on itself like an undercooked cake, under the weight of the only other Hall daughter.Â
âCome on, youâve been using that rake for hours. Donât act like you didnât want to do it.â    Skyeâs eyes glimmered brightly under the fuzzy hood of her winter jacket, while Bellamyâs narrowed.Â
âYou stand on the edge of a cliff, and think of jumping off, but you donât do it. Itâs called responsibility.â she sassed. Too bad it didnât slow Skye down. Nothing ever did when fall came around.Â
âItâs leaves. Not a giant pit of death.âÂ
âItâs a chore youâre going to finish for me now.â Bell fired back, holding the rake out for the child who was no longer smiling. For a moment she wondered if Skye would complain or whine, the pout on her features at least reaching second-degree hazard. But then the youngest shot Bellamy a tight-lipped smiled, and held her hand out. âFine. Help me up. Iâll do it.âÂ
Sure, she would. The minute Bellamyâs hand moved to pluck Skye from her earth-chic throne, she was hauled away from the instrument sheâd been using to clean it all up in the first place and thrown right into the soft heap. Almost as quickly as she had fallen, Skye sent scooped up leaves raining over her, a grin on her like sheâd slept with a coat hanger in her mouth.
The scattered leaves bellow her now, looked nothing like they did in her memory. Snapping back into the quieter spring, Bellamy looked up and scanned her surroundings, her eyes lingering on a lone man not far.
erikhawtcrn:
âSomehow, I donât think she was someone youâre looking for. Sheâs the last of the college stragglers who are yet to go home.â Erik indicated in the direction she went. âLook, are we done here? You kind of interrupted something and itâs been a few days.â That was never good for any parties involved.Â
No wonder heâs antsy. The supreme shamelessly sized the vampire up, brows shooting upwards at the question that spilled from his mouth. Whatever authority the witches in her hometown had, she didnât always encounter a hungry vampire who asked permission to leave the conversation.Â

The confidence from the person in front of him⌠Ray admired that. As well as her curiosity, since it has been since Amber and one other that has actually has interest in what he does. Or who he actually was. âI will guess that you are not familiar with ancient Asiaâ He shrugged, âI do not blame you. Many people make the assumption that my kind was only located in one place. Japan. But history is not always what it wants to appear as, does it?â He took a step away from her, more as a reassurance to himself that he can still be in control of some way. He has to, as he canât let her gain an upper hand. Or he gets to deal with Evelynâs loyal subjects.Â
Ray had a ghost smile on his face, âA kitsune. I do not know if you know what that is.â There was few that was aware of the creature he was. And he preferred it that way. If people were aware of him like a vampire or werewolf then more people would try to talk. Or attack. Being what he was allowed him to roam, almost comfortably.Â
Until he runs into curious creature like the⌠Witch? He assumes that is who in front of him.
Though Bellamy didnât like to think about it anymore, even less discuss it, her confidence in herself wasnât exactly from some inherent elitism. She didnât think people were better because of what they were or how much money they had. Despite enjoying a power trip every once in awhile, Bellamy was a clueless daughter. She went through a regiment, a formula, and had to check a lot of boxes and jump through a lot of hoops to be deserving of the power she had back home. And even all that training hadnât been enough. But now it was.Â
As she listened to Ray explain the history of his people, the name remained foreign. He was teaching her around it, and though Bellamy was listening, she hoped heâd get to the point.
âI wouldnât be asking if I did.â
