@wifeman
I feel like a lot of people get "All Art is Political" confused with "All Art is made with Political Intentions" which is not the same.
Happy pride month to the tiny cowboy and tiny Trojan man from Night at the Museum
This hands down the best comment in the notes, I will not be taking criticism.

the elephant in the room with the official tvl/s3 trailer is the way it obscures both the show's black leads and the fundamental queerness of its characters and premise. if you were watching this trailer as a casual fan of the first 2 seasons, you'd prob assume it was a lestat spinoff instead of a direct sequel and that louis was only making a few cameos to pass the lead baton- if you were watching this trailer as a potential viewer who didn't know anything about the first 2 seasons or the source material, you'd have no idea that the show's main narrative centers on a gay, interracial gothic romance. and this doesn't change my hopes and expectations for s3 itself- writers don't cut trailers and they don't dictate promo campaigns- but i think it's telling wrt amc's priorities as a corporation, the "new" audience it's pursuing for s3 and the reactionary political/media climate we're in in the states rn that a lot of people could watch this trailer and decide to tune into s3 completely oblivious to lestat's bisexuality and the fact that the monstrosity he's talking about- the actions he's in deep denial about and is probably gonna face the worst reckoning for- is the way he treated his black husband and daughter. the "well louis' plot and claudia's presence are big spoilers, so they had to hide them" explanation only goes so far, bc while it does make sense to avoid spoiling the audience, adding a few more split-second frames of louis and claudia's faces wasn't exactly gonna give away the game when they've already released delainey in ghostly makeup, louis covered in blood going after bruce etc. if anything hinting at louis and claudia having some rich story coming up would help retain the audience iwtv already has, including the large number of black viewers who got invested in this show thru louis and claudia's story in s1-s2.
i've also seen some posts talk about how the lestat/gabriella kiss is "rent-lowering shots" or how the depiction of lioncourt incest is gonna be a deeply controversial or alienating story choice, and i feel like that's a take that speaks to fandom discourse instead of the general audience reality. we literally live in a world where game of thrones is one of the most popular global ips and house of the dragon is one of the most popular shows on tv. "incestuous white aristocrats" is a way less controversial premise for a lot of casual viewers than anything centering blackness or queerness, especially black queerness- there are plenty of conservatives who ate up the lannister and targaryen drama in the game of thrones universe who'd react with palpable disgust if you showed them the s1ep1 church kiss, or who'd hate on jacob and delainey's casting as "blackwashing" and "woke dei" and other euphemisms they use for the hard r. and i'm not knocking the existence of the lestat/gabriella plot or the show going there or a lot of fans' excitement for it- there's a lot of great story and character potential there, the cycles be cyling, i'm really interested in it too- but i do think it's telling that amc felt more comfortable showing lestat kissing his own mother in the official trailer than lestat kissing a man, let alone kissing his black husband.
in iwtv s1-s2, when louis was the unambiguous lead and title character, the marketing sold the show almost like it had an ensemble cast- while louis was foregrounded ofc, lestat, claudia and armand (as of s2) also appeared in key art, posters and other visuals. despite having a limited role in s2, lestat still featured significantly in s2's promo campaign and his lasting impact on all the other characters' narratives was apparent from every trailer and preview. every visual (with the exception of a few character posters) for s1-s2 featured lestat in some way, and even the "murder mansion" 1st look at s2 showing an early flirtation between louis and armand ended on a tease of lestat's name.
in iwtv s3/tvl, when lestat is the unambiguous lead and title character, none of the key art or posters they've released for the season has featured any character except lestat, and the official trailer only shows louis for a few seconds and claudia not at all. the official trailer for s2 told you how important lestat was to louis and to the story in general, despite his decreased screentime- if you're a new viewer, you wouldn't know who louis even is based on the official trailer for s3. just look at the difference in posters alone-
louis' narrative role in s1-s2 and lestat's narrative role in s3 are virtually the same- but there's a stark difference wrt how amc chose to market those respective eras of the show. amc could've easily put together a marketing campaign where lestat was front and center but louis was standing beside/behind him and maybe claudia's shadow or face hung over some of the visuals they released like she's haunting them, kinda like lestat's face projected on the red curtains in one of the s2 posters above. they could've done character posters like they did in previous seasons. the fact that they didn't do any of that is telling, and all of these choices taken in tandem indicate that 1) amc didn't trust a black lead to sell the show "by himself" and made sure his white love interest was almost always next to him 2) amc feels no need to keep show-only viewers from s1-s2 who were primarily invested in louis and claudia's story hooked, bc they either take this audience for granted or see this audience as disposable.
and ofc we know that the story itself matters more than how it's marketed, but i also think it's seriously condescending and microaggressive when nonblack fans start rolling their eyes and saying black fans are entitled or whiny for raising concerns about how amc is selling this story and the whiter audience it's now pursuing, saying we're too obsessed with promo and just making a big deal out of nothing or saying we have nothing to worry about bc louis has more scenes than he did in the book. this isn't about his scenes in s3, this isn't about the content of s3 at all (yet)- louis could have a complex storyline for the ages this season, lestat could grovel before claudia's ghost for abusing her and rolin jones himself could walk onscreen break the 4th wall and say louis and claudia were right about everything, but amc's advertising choices for s3 would still be questionable and merit critique for sidelining its black leads and the obvious double standard between s1-s2 v s3. fans calling out corporate racism shouldn't be conflated with fan entitlement or kpop-style stat chasing.
wait you understand that kinks are ok because they're fantasies that make you happy right? you all get that you don't need to have trauma for your kinks to be okay? right? like none of you think i witnessed a tragic accident on the pool toy assembly line right?
like "some people work through their personal issues with kink" was a good first step for some of the class that were struggling but i think now we're ready for "things that don't hurt anyone and make people happy are okay even if you personally think it's icky"
BECAUSE ROUGE THE BAT DRAWN AS WIDE AS SHE IS TALL WITH TITS TO MATCH KILLED MY GRANDMA, OKAY?
You listen to music regularly? Why? Have you even tried quitting? Could you quit? You get music stuck in your head? Wow. You're so ruined and music brained. I bet you make your partners listen to music with you when you have sex. Music addiction has really ruined a whole generation. You know it's not realistic to expect reverb in real life, right? You're probably so desensitized that you don't even feel anything anymore when you hear a bird singing that it wants some fuck.
I don't have a problem with people listening to music per se, but I do have a problem with the music industry exploiting & mistreating artists.
Personally, I abstain from all music in order to keep my hands clean but really music should just be illegal outright to protect musicians from abuse.
holy shit this person in the notes

Who is the real subject of most love poems? Not the beloved. It is the hole. When I desire you, a part of me is gone: my want of you partakes of me. So reasons the lover at the edge of eros. The presence of want awakens in him nostalgia for wholeness. His thoughts turn toward questions of personal identity: he must recover and reincorporate what is gone if he is to be a complete person. […] Most people find something disturbingly lucid and true in Aristophanes’ image of lovers as people cut in half. All desire is for a part of oneself gone missing, or so it feels to the person in love.

Please imagine;
You are around 60 years old, and your son in law around 25 years chases you at full speed then bites and beats you every day, can you say he is cute!?
