i've realized recently that aromantics practically only ever get recognition whenever they're paired with asexualism so, i really like this post.

So, aromanticism is (no offence) wanting to have sex with someone without forming a deeper emotional relationship.

Yes and no: aromanticicism has nothing to do with sex. Sure the above can occur, but the actual definition of aromantic is little to no romantic attraction and/or fluctuating levels of attraction that differ from allo/non-aromantic standards

So while an aromantic person can want to have with no deeper romantic (stressing that as emotional relationship ≠ romantic), it’s more because they don’t experience the same level of attraction other non-aromantic people can.

Think of it like a gay guy having sex with a women hes 100% not sexually attracted to; he can technically have sex with her, he just doesn’t feel anything like what someone who is attracted to women would feel. It’s not a lack of want, it’s a lack of existence!

When Black & White came out, they had creature models that changed based on whether it had muscle, was eating a lot, young or old, etc., blending the mesh or something to achieve the effect. Then in addition to that, they had the animations be partly procedural, so that they would mostly look correct even if the physical size of the creature was different.

I always thought that this was the future of videogames and animation, but we're only just barely getting to the point of animations that are driven by limb length and underlying physio anatomy. In theory, a character should walk different depending on their musculature, what kind of load they're carrying, whether they have an injury, etc., and this should all be dynamic.

But the modern AAA games have gone in the direction of blended mocap and a singular character rendered in very high fidelity that I guess wouldn't make sense to have dynamic appearance and animation for, and the indies tend to use whatever is available out of the box. Plus if you're going to allow characters to be different heights, weights, etc., you start growing concerned about whether there's some optimal thing to be, and certainly don't want players to optimize into picking the shortest dude they can so the hitbox is tiny.

So the technology and systems that seemed to hold a lot of promise 25 years ago have fallen into a sort of developmental no man's land.

The inability of a certain subset of blockheaded fans to notice Kris's gender is so. This is a game which places a nonbinary protagonist in a narrative that has them struggling explicitly with how much control they are allowed to have over their own life, whose best friends are a girl who is gleefully unfeminine and a boy who has no idea who he's supposed to be but sure seems to like being pretty, after the first few seconds of the game consisted of us trying to create our own form and then being told point blank "no one can choose who they in this world," where the above three children are all being railroaded into and struggling to escape their roles in a religiously per-ordained questline that we know ends very badly for them. If you think gender is not being employed here in a way that is specific, intentional, and thematically relevant then you are not serious
