I’m conflicted.

High Guardian Spice looks like the kind of show I would watch. It’s very cute and girly and I’m a sucker for that crap. But I won’t. The funding for the show wasn’t aquired specifically for that purpose. People paying for the show weren’t consulted, nor was there any fan demand for CrunchyRoll original content. Viewers just wanted to be subscribed to their (quite frankly subpar) streaming service, in order to support an entirely different industry. And I’m sure a company that is already transparent about their dubious practices is not fully commited to make anime sustainable. If the show’s profitability is not directly tied to its quality, there is no way it’s going to be the best piece of media it could be. Nothing is at stake. HGS is proven to be profitable as long as people (whether they watch the show or not) is subscribed to the service. THAT IS SHADY AS SHIT.
