"Why isn't there a White History Month?!"
If you're white and these phrases are familiar, then you may have whitesplained. Here's how the most common ways of whitesplaining get in the way of racial justice.
As a white woman, finding the words to explain to other white people what whitesplaining is and why its shitty, is hard. This article was SO helpful.
Change takes time. 100 years towards women’s suffrage.
Be your own HERo.
Maya Angelou said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” A slight twist on this sentiment is, “Do the best you can until you can do more. Then when you can do more, do more.”
Being feminist in a world that hates feminism sure can be exhausting sometimes. So if you're in need of a pick-me-up, here it is.
This post gives me life.
Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation and that is an act of political warfare.
Audre Lorde
Give yourself permission to come undone. To cry unabashedly, to laugh wildly, to whip your hair back and forth, to dance ferociously, to summon up the fiercest scream. Tap into the primal nature of your emotions. Let it stir what needs to be heard.

Self care is political warfare-

This is my Women's Activism and Social Change professor demonstrating an activity I have taken part in during my class time as her student.
I believe this is a simple yet potent lesson. It brought me to tears hearing all of the women in my class call out the things they do on a DAILY BASIS to stay safe and prepare themselves against sexual assault and harassment.
If you think this is blown out of proportion...
I promise you, this is a reality for the MAJORITY of women on this planet.
The take-away for me after this activity was deep sorrow, and honestly some rage, that women are forced to put so much thought and effort into staying safe, something that should be a basic right. Like, what the hell...
Do you know how much brain space it takes up to have to think about this constantly?
A lot.
And just because we were born with a vagina... [*face palm*]
BIGGER PICTURE THOUGH...
It also really woke me up to the FACT that I am completely unaware of the oppressions that I don’t live with. BRIGHT LIGHTBULB.
“Holy shit!” I thought, sinking like mushy tar into my black, plastic school chair... “I’ve been so blind. Shit... what else do I not know about the suffering of other people?”
DISCLAIMER... This video may trigger some guilt or fragility issues. This is NOT a video about how evil men are. It's about being aware of our part in systemic injustice. JUST by being white, straight, cisgender, middle-class, able-bodied and english-speaking, I am a part of systemic injustice. BLINDSPOTS, you guys. If we do not daily experience a certain kind of oppression, we tend to not even think about it. We can be, and probably are, both oppressed and oppressors (AT THE SAME TIME). Read about INTERSECTIONAL OPPRESSION if you’ve never come across this idea.
Food for thought. I’m open to discussion.
You can't buy your way out, you gotta die your way out.
