No, you're not stoned, there really is an iguana that's blue and it's called the Blue Iguana.  Thanks to the Wildlife Conservation Society and donations from it's members, this longtime resident of Grand Cayman is making a recovery--from near-extinction.

Call for Entries - Wildlife Conservation Society

Call for Entries: Images (Photographs, Drawings, or Paintings), Poetry, Prose, and Personal Experiences (Stories, Letters, or Journal Entries) Composing with Images Press (CWiP) seeks images (photographs, drawings, or paintings), poetry, prose, and personal experiences (stories, letters, or journal entries) that explore, with a focus on the natural world, the theme of Wild.  All proceeds from the sales of this book will be donated to the Wildlife Conservation Society in order for them to continue providing a voice to voiceless animals around the globe. DEADLINE: Monday, October 17th, 2011 at 11:59pm Eastern Time Photos and literature will be selected and the book will be edited by our special guest editors: Jamie Mahoney, Krista Hendrickson, Adam Toscani, and Kayla Ewing.  They are part of the first group of editors in Composing with Images Press’ new Student Books Series. Composing with Images Press is a small not-for-profit, all volunteer, independent book publisher founded by Bill Wolff and Billie Hara. CWiP publishes photo and art books that bring together image and text to engage creative, social, and cultural issues within a particular theme. 100% of all proceeds are donated to charity. Our first books were immediate best sellers and raised almost $1000 for BP oil spill cleanup efforts. Play!, a photo book to benefit Toys for Tots will be published in November, 2011. Multi-Genre Book Theme: Wild CWiP is seeking a variety of genre entries that represent and capture the essence of the theme Wild.  These might include, but are not limited to, entries that showcase animals in their natural habitat, survival in the wild, personal experiences in the wild, or simply, a depiction of what you believe “wild” represents. We are not, however, limiting our desire for entries to focus solely on animals, but human experiences in their natural habitats: you could consider the place where you live, i.e. the city as a wild place. These are of course just suggestions for representing Wild. One might also consider what ‘Wild” means from the standpoint of the animal, the place, the person in the place, etc. Dress up as an animal – we encourage entries that express your imagination! This call is open to anyone, either amateur or professional. Note:  Though the book is concentrated on the theme of wild, we are specifically not seeking content that revolves around partying or inappropriate conduct. Again, we are looking for multiple genre entries that capture the essence of living things in their different environments.

I think something like this where we compose images that we get or even find in the public domain could look so cool for a front of back cover for the book.

Just an idea but it could turn out pretty cool, especially if we get a lot of pictures and can't fit them all into the book

I think there's so much beauty in terrifyingly large cats. Our theme wild can play a lot on the beauty that resides in things that are considered to be wild and dangerous in our lives.

Wildlife Conservation Society- Book Proposal

Dear Dr. Wolff and Dr. Hara,     Too many of our world’s most beautiful and important animals are at great risk of becoming extinct. While there are several reasons for this, one of the main reasons is due to the fact that their homes are being destroyed. The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has made it their mission to provide a voice to voiceless animals all around the globe for the past 115 years. In addition, the WCS have helped to protect more than 350 species as well as their habitats in over 150 different landscapes and seascapes. Our goal, through the creation of our book, is to support the WCS’s mission, as we believe it is crucial to the lives of so many beloved animals and their habitats.  

    The central premise of our book will be based on the theme Wild, while capturing the essence of living things in their different environments. We are proposing a multi genre book filled with pages comprised of images, words, poetry, prose, and personal experiences. The book is going to be a seven by seven inch square hardcover, will range from twenty-one to forty pages and will retail at thirty-one dollars and ninety five cents ($31.95). Several examples that have inspired our group can be seen on Blurb’s website (Blurb.com) and include “Wild Things” by Debby Burleson, “Wild Memories” by Chad Michael McGregor and “No Reservation” by Jim Cortez.  It is our hope that this book will attract an audience composed of several different generations who have a love for animals, the environment, and all things in the natural world.

      It is important to note that in addition to being a group of college students completing a required course assignment for a grade, we are also passionate about the Wildlife Conservation Society and what it stands for on a global scale. This book gives us the opportunity to raise money for a charitable organization that we would have never had the chance to work with otherwise.

    We would love the opportunity for our book to be published through your website and we look forward to having a finished product that will be a forum for both knowledge and entertainment on such an important global issue.
