āThis isnāt against the rules. Right?ā
"I know I shouldnāt expect you to look at me as though Iām normal, but my insistence is something I hope should helpā¦" For a moment, his words trailed off as though he was thinking. "I do feel like it just makes them throw themselves at me more." It was the kind of attention that Alastair wasnāt used to. The young vampire began to laugh loudly when Austin took notice of his quote. "He was a wise man."
"It's got nothing to do with you, Ali, you know that right? You're probably one of the nicest people, let alone masters, I've ever met. If this were anywhere else, I'd probably see you differently, all of us would. But at the end of the day, you're in this super nice looking suit with your hair gelled to the side like a movie star, and I'm in rags and smell like I haven't showered in two days... which I haven't. You're not a normal guy to slaves, no matter how sweet you are to us. Most of the slaves here see you as a meal ticket," he shrugged. He grinned, "You may have gotten an weensy bit hotter after that, super heroes are my weakness," he admitted. "If only more people in this city were as noble as you are."
His mouth was practically wet with hunger. Salivating the more the bar gave way and brought him closer to the foolish wolf. If he was more than a beast of blood and death he might actually laugh at the wolfās naivety. He might even feel bad for the fate that awaited him once there was nothing protecting Austin from him. But there was no real sense of sympathy or pity coming from the wolf. He was nothing but a beast driven by his hunger. Nothing, not even his own life, mattered more. They would punished them for breaking the bars, Alden could likely die for killing another slave but none of that mattered. All the knew was hunger.
Finally the division between them was gone, leading the younger wolf to come bouncing into Aldenās cage with such vigor and life. Oh how he would enjoy snuffing out that flame of life but he would need to season his meal first. And nothing made a kill taste sweeter than when it was sauteed in fear. So Alden made no move as the wolf bounced around him. Then without warning he just charged forward slamming his skull into Austinās side with enough force to knock him across the floor into the other bars of his cage. Approaching the dazed wolf with his lips pulled back to show his big white teeth that would soon be painted red with Austinās blood.
There should have been some sort of warng, some sort of trigger that went off in Austin's head telling him that he was in danger. Perhaps there was, but the young wolf's excitement to finally be in close proximity with another wolf, someone he considered a friend, was too great. All he could see what the potentially to finally play, to wrestle, to cover himself in a friendly scent that he couldn't recognize the danger. He was blinded by his youthful naivity. So when the black wolf rammed into him and sent him crashing into the bars, he yelped in surprise more than anything else. The wind was knocked out of him and instantly it hit him that he might not be safe, that Alden might not have been his friend.
The silver wolf stumbled to his feet, a weak attempt at a growl sounded, but with his bruised ribs and windless lungs, it came out as more of a strained whimper. His hears rolled back and his teeth were bared. This must have just been how Alden played, it must have been how all wolves related. Austin had never done this before, he'd never interacted with other wolves in their truest form. So instead of cowering, he crouched low, far more tense and alert, but still with a playful glint in his eye. Alden wouldn't actually try to hurt him, this was just a game, perhaps a little more violent than he expected, but he could handle it, right? The pup lunged forward and nipped a the dark wolf's snout, clipping him on the nose this time before swiping a paw at his neck.
The wolf watched as the pup continued to gnaw at the bars eager to play. Of course there was another game coursing through the bloodlust driven thoughts of the beast. Licking his lips anticipating how the wolfās warm blood would feel against his lips, the sensation of flesh tearing at his teeth. All of this pushed his steps closer to the bar to take bite of the metal just above where the other wolf was working on. It almost looked as if the two were working together as a team but the truth was their agenda couldnāt be further apart from one another. One wished to play with his friend, the other wished to tear the wolf into a bloody mess. But their combined effort and a hundred years of wolf strength behind him it wouldnāt be long before the bars were loosened between themā¦.and dinner was served.
There was an odd feeling of satisfaction when Austin saw the black wolf begin to work on pulling out the bars. It seemed like Alden was just as eager to break that berrier between them, to play with one another, as Austin was. That knowledge alone urged the pup to work harder at breaking the bar, so when he felt the metal start to give, his tail wagged with anticipation. It would be the first real contact he'd had with another wolf... ever. If he could just get through that fucking bar! The more he struggled, the angrier he got, and he found the angrier he got, the more strength he had to give. Minutes passed and finally he was making some ground, the bar began to bend outward, giving more and more space for the young white wolf to slip eventually, to hopefully slide between. A low growl began to reverberate from the wolf's snout, and just a few moments later the bar popped loose, and left just enough space for the younger wolf's frame to squeeze through. Eagerly he managed to get into his neighbors cage, and snapped his jowls with a playful aggression, waiting for a reaction.
Mak let out a hushed breath, looking through the bars. When he spoke, she paused and shook her head. āIām fine. I donāt need to sit. I know you probably think Iām crazy, and I am, but Iām fine.ā She laughed. āYou just have to l;oosen up and go with it. Let your actions come naturally.ā
Austin bit his lip, honestly unsure how to respond to her. "Yeah... I wasn't going to call you crazy... more like... adorably eccentric?" he winced at his lame attempt at comforting her. Truth be told he had always looked at Mak as a bit of a lost cause as far as slaves went, then again most human slaves weren't the most mentally stable, hell even Austin could have been described as... eccentric on a good day. "Yeah, unfortunately my natural reaction is to bust out laughing when a master starts treating me like his... very dirty secretary."
There was a sense of fear that came with his shift. Just as the dark cloud consumed him and his flesh began to tear and reveal black fur over his body. This was not like other wolves that succumbed to their primal side, still in some degree of control. No this was a beast who slept under Aldenās skin to be freed once a night under the light of the full moon. Bringing with it a fear that Alden would awake with more blood on his hands like all the nights before. And as his wolf became aware of his surrounding he took note to the side of teeth grinding against metal. Murderous eyes falling onto the young wolf who almost looked like he was trying to free Alden from his cage. But the wolf saw no hero or saviorā¦all he saw was his next meal.
There should have been part of the young wolf that sensed the shift in his friend, as loosely as he used that word. The wolf beside him, by all accounts smelled like Alden, but there was also a part of the creature that lay on the other side of the bars that was not Alden, not the guy he'd snarked at, teased, and even flirted with. Still, there was an inner beast inside of him that recognized a kindred spirit and wanted to get him out... or perhaps get in. Either way he paid little attention to the deathly snarl and the murderous glare his playmate was shooting him, and instead gnawed tirelessly at the bars.
Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where dead man called out For his love to flee. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.

It was the scent that perked the silver wolf's attention first, the one he'd remembered from the courtyard, in passing in the cell block. Yellow eyes focused on his elder, sniffing through the bars, he let out a curious growl. When had he been placed in the cell next to him? It was an odd feeling, Alden had been the first wolf, the to really feel like a friend, and the young pup began to gnaw eagerly at the metal bars, using what strength he could to close that gap.
Alastair shrugged. It wasnāt often it came out, nor was it how he really felt. Peter was a monster to him, as was Leo, and perhaps it was wrong of him to judge them as he did. Not that there werenāt reasons for how he felt though. āIām glad thatās hot tooā¦. It just makes my skin crawl when people are subservient to me because they think they owe meā¦. I do things because I want to, not because I have to.ā Shaking his head at Austinās assumption that he enjoyed the power, he pressed his forehead to the wolfās. āJust as you donāt enjoy your power, I donāt enjoy mine. Before you can enjoy it, you must control it, and Iā¦am poor at that. Itās like that saying. āWith great power comes great responsibility.āā
It was Alastair's next comment that made Austin side eye him a bit, and not subtly. "Really? No offense Ali, but you're a master in a town that's known for abusing slaves. If you expect us to treat you like a normal guy, you're a little bit naive," he pointed out, albeit perhaps a little more harsh than he meant it. He had to admit he did appreciate the vampire's treatment of him, but he had to expect other slaves to give him less than sincere treatment, especially slaves that didn't know him like Austin eventually had. "Yeah I get not having control," he nodded, though admittedly Austin may have had less trouble than some wolves, he had trouble tapping into that strength that so many of his peers seemed to master so easily. "Did you seriously just quote Uncle Ben to me?"
"Just passing through..."
"Not with me⦠Blame yourself but not āthe wolfā, youāre not a human anymore Austin, youāre a wolf. You lack control, not it, you.ā Ben explained. Then the guard was laughing at the comeback. āIām 603 years old Austin, Iāve heard that one a thousand times already.ā the older wolf teased.
"I must have a sweatpants somewhere in the drawers under the bed. Look around, not much left." he answered and went to his cooking.
By the time Austin came out, he was placing the plates on the table, with two beers. āRight on time Heartthrob⦠Happy?!ā
"Blame myself, but not..." he hadn't really followed. By this point he knew the wolf was an entirely new entity, not only an extension but an evolution of himslf, he didn't really understand the concept of controlling it, of conforming it to his idea of submission. "Fuck you, Ben. I know enough about it to keep from dry humping your lap, don't I?" He pointed out, as if that were some kind of defense.
It hadn't taken long for Austin to shower and leave the bathroom. He'd decided to settle for a pair of the master's sweatpants and shorts before leaving his room and heading back down Ben's stairs, following his nose to the kitchen. "You didn't burn the burgers!" he called back with a wide grin. "Better than me."
"Iām sorry. The elitism is in my family blood. I come from a long line of politicians," he laughed. And though it sounded like a joke, it was true. Peter just happened to bring it out. Perhaps because the young vampire disliked him so much. That vampire was the only one able to pull such violent, angry thoughts from him. "Iām glad you find it hot though."Ā
Noting how Austin seemed to perk up at the mention of Alastairās life as a human civilian, he had a feeling the wolf had experienced something similar. āI can tell you that I didnāt want it to happen. I justā¦got drunk and stumbled into the woods. Humans and alcohol donāt mix in a city like this, nor do they mix with a hungry vampire. I donāt remember much from that night other than pain and fear. Dying is no fun.ā
"Then shouldn't the ability to hide it come in there somewhere too?" he teased, not that he all together minded. Still, he vampire's take on people he deemed less than him was also noted. Not that even Austin could blame the man. "Of course I do. I find it even hotter that you're all about those human rights." he winced at his own words that time. "You know what I mean." While Austin couldn't necessarily relate to being a civilian, the feeling of not wanting the change, of wanting to stay normal was ever present. "Oddly enough, humans and full moons don't mix either," he voiced. "Most vampires like it though. The power, the immortality," he let his gaze remain on the master this time. "Even you have to admit you like all that power. Right?"
"Just passing through..."
"Did you just growled at me Heartthrob?!" Ben asked, more amused than angry at the growl. "Austin⦠Iām the kind of wolf that ruins boys for the next masters to fuck them⦠Come onā¦"
"Iām not buying you food boy, Iāll make itā¦"
Ben brought the boy to his loft, he still hadnāt sold it yet and was even considering not doing it, but just renovating the place instead.
"Beer in the fridge, but you can shower first while I cook."
"I'm still young enough to blame the wolf, right?" he asked, and it was a completely honest question. He still had little to no control sometimes over his inner beast, the animal that seemed to always respond to notions of being dominated. Austin as a human was defiant, and as a wolf he found it even more difficult to simply allow masters to take him, no matter their age or strength. Up until this point he'd managed to get by, taking control over the situation one way or another. Ben, on the other-hand, seemed to be a little bit more experienced than the wolves he'd been used to. "And I'm the kind of slave that ruins master for the next slave they try to fuck," he retorted back with an honest shrug.
Austin walked into the wolf's loft and could instantly smell the assortment of slaves he'd brought home before him, not that he visibly reacted to it, at least not knowingly. Instead, he tried to focus on the familiar scents, Ben, the meat and beer in the fridge, the trees outside. "You got clothes I can fit into?" he asked, knowing Ben was larger than him, and also knowing that he was bigger than Lex and broader than Killian.
"I find him more useless than myself. It doesnāt take a brain to solve things with violence," Alastair stated, a shrug quickly following. Maybe Alastair was different, but for the most part, many of the residents heād met seemed accepting of it, and some seemed to wish they still had that part of them. In fact, Alastair wondered if thereād come a day where he too wished for his innocence and naivety back, even though it caused trouble for him in the moment. "I do know how it goes. I often feared being turned into a slave when I was a civilian, though I knew it was highly unlikely. But Austin, I want you to act how you wish to around me, how you truly feel. I value honesty over pretty words. If you ever wished to not be around me, Iād hope youād tell me. Itād make me a little sad, but itās better than forcing my presence on others."
Austin's face brightened at the vampire's words. "Ali! That was probably the most stuck up, elitist thing I've ever heard you say." While he was teasing the vampire, he was also being honest. "You know you're kind of hot when you're judgmental," he pointed out with a flirtatious twitch of the eyebrows. He certainly wasn't about to disagree with him. Peter both scared the living hell out of him and turned him on, but he definitely related to Alastair's point of view, as he imagined every slave would. Suddenly Austin's interest was peaked. "Can I ask how? How you were turned into a vampire," Alastair was the first person he'd met who'd been human in Covaire, just like him, and then turned into something else. He hadn't known Ali was going through the same exact thing he was going through.
"Just passing through..."
"Look at you all feisty againā¦" Ben replied grinning, he pulled at the boy through the bars bringing him closer and kissed him. "Itās cute how you think you wonāt be asking for itā¦"
Ben had the cell opened for him and signaled for for the wolf to follow him. āBurger and fries are still your thing?!ā
Austin instinctively pulled back when he felt the wolf pull him into a kiss, but not hard enough. Once their lips met he gave into the struggle and simply pressed back into them. His hands gripped he metal harder before finally the older wolf let him go, and a low involuntary growl reverberated from his chest. "And it's adorable that you think you've got something I'll be asking for," he retorted back against the master's lips, still smiling.
"I'm a simple guy," he responded. "Can you still afford me, Ben?
"Youād think, but I think he just wants to kill me because he thinks Iām useless. Itās a good thing heās not very old either," he sighed. Though he definitely hated fighting, he wasnāt about to let himself be killed so easily, especially after everything heād been through. "You keep talking about your job. Donāt worry about pleasing me so much. I know itās what youāre taught to do, butā¦"
"Well that... is kind of fair. He's definitely nothing like you," though truth be told there weren't any master like Alastair. He'd only spent a few nights with the vampire and already he could tell he was different than any he'd ever met. Kind, nurturing, submissive... he wasn't like any vampire he'd met, or master for that matter. "I feel like 'taught' is a little generous. More like conditioned. We're conditioned to please you so much." He knew his words would probably upset Alastair so he shook his head. "Not you personally, just the city. You know how it goes."
