boy, near-destroyed sits pleasantly as haemorrhoid bitumen gingerbread humanoid pulling out his teeth one by one as onlookers bask in schadenfreude
the air between us thick, butternut silence her words blistering, overboiled. starched linen smiles and long forgotten whiles of hungry time
there’s a ghost in this house - he hides in the corners and squeaks around like a mouse been a while since he died - been a while since i felt alive. there was a fire down the lane - it smelt like sloe and blackberries for days, there was a man; lost his wife;
lost his dog;
lost his mind
adam
adam my son, what have you done with the body? did you throw him in deep? with rocks round his feet, do it properly? or did you dig him a hole? to live like a mole, all dirty crawling within his suffering skin, natures clergy billy the kid the sounds of the old western plains, I skin him alive - cut out his eyes and eat them i can taste what he’s seen - the sand and the seas, they’re all there the woman he loved, the man he loved to and the cross he bared
chop him up small, til he’s nothing at all but a fine paste marrow on toast - not one to boast, but he’s gourmet johnny be good rock and roll suits you it’s lively rhythm and blues, he beats and you bruise, politely
patiently, i watch her geography - her contours and topography the subtle arch of her spine as her shoulders entwine leaves me gasping for something a little more; muscles dance beneath skin and the sunlight joins in and it’s oh so gracefully done
bag for life
My bag for life has a hole in it I have been worried ever since I bundled my sodden wetsuit into it and tore it on a fence
Is it a premonition, I wonder, of how things will play out? That I too will soon develop a hole and risk falling in, or maybe out.
I cannot afford this sort of worry I spent my only 10 pence on a receptacle that I was told would see me through until my end
My end may be a little closer now or at least the wear and tear would so suggest, but if I thought Tesco would have told my fortune I’d have been wary to invest
But little do you know what goes on behind the scenes, they’re adding us up one by one every time we buy our beans
The barcode scanner reads your palm; the crystal balls are crystal marrows; and how would you like to pay for that sir? Debit card or tarot?
If you find yourself at the smaller till, where they keep the scratch cards and cigarettes, bare in mind you’re here to gamble do well in placing your bets
The rest of the shop is still a lottery though, from the cereal to the sprouts, Be especially aware of the bags on offer at the ends of all the checkouts
Once they’ve scanned your items they’ll ask “do you need a bag?” And with empty pockets you say “yes please” there’s no going back after that
You hand your ten pence over, bearing the weight of your soul, the cashier motions for you to take one, it will be yours till you grow old
You do as suggested and take it open it up, load your groceries in and lift, bring it up and over the counter and feel the weight of it
Five months later it’s handles stretch every time I fill it up, it is thinning like old soft skin and when I let go it bundles up
I’ve patched it up as best I can - it’s a triggers broom of sorts - there may be a life beyond what appears, and if not, this one’s disappointingly short
I suppose it could be false advertising Conglomerate immorality? Or pessimistically hoping we’ll immolate come our carriers fatality
They’ll find me still clutching it’s handles when I am long deceased, they might even bury me in it - or at the very least my feet.
They could wheel me through in a £1 trolley, cash my clubcard points in, scan me through as ‘large potatoes’ "butternut squash” or “garden bin”
They could wheel me to the church where after the hymns they’d collectively whelp ”it is impossibly sad to see her go, but every little helps!”
Or they could wheel me to the crematorium for a bit of legal arson, put some of me in a little pot whilst the rest floats of as carbon
Finally, I could be taken back to Tescos in my little urn to be turned away promptly to the words; “no receipt, no return“
I have a bag for life you see, though it’s longevity is questionable it’s seen me through an adventure or two and death, I suppose, is inevitable
a moment(um) continued...
i was beginning to worry that time had stopped but i can still hear the faint tick tock of the kitchen clock from my bedroom, and the gaps in between. it feels viscous and doughy and it’s definitely slowing but my fingernails are still growing.
i’m better at scratching now and oh boy, with all the dust i’ve collected i am itching! but i cannot reach where i need: in my pockets, my ears, in between my teeth. the outside. behind my eyes. underneath the fitted sheet that is my dress but might as well be a straight jacket. i am stuck. in cotton and in brick and in time i am stuck. the weevils goldmine stuck. the cripples spine hurricane wind chime flat tire bus line bad joke punchline: “you should get out more“
***
then, one day, whilst basking in my sorry state i begin to dehydrate. my skin starts to peel from my lips the bridge of my nose and fingertips and i wonder if i am finally getting out.

observation
‘father headbutt the cat fondler’; an emblazoned plaque of honour written in fingerprint felt tip with dirty ink on the back door of a kitchen fitters van - a modern day klimt Amidst the over zealous rockeries and emptied bins to be dragged back round in hiding when their owners finish work there are no cats to be seen so one can only assume the powers of dog collars and concussions to have consumed him granite and marble no longer enough the church unwavering and the head injuries too much
i wrote this in a glint of hope (the world had just begun) a bright white beam on a brass candlestick in the path of a passing sun i was in a hurry (the world hurries on) freshly cut nails split red at the edges of a girl whose calluses mourn i shan’t be long (we’ll go quietly, undisturbed) gathering the wind in my mouth as i push out my words my toes digging softly in the dirt i go unheard
resurfacing; with promise and hope circling no longer am i haplessly and hopelessly, curdling
a midwinter baptism
down in the waterlands the solstice begins winters final advance before the persuasions of spring and i long to dance with the darkening skies to touch the earth - to feel alive! so we walk to the coast and we beg the tide to dampen our bones and not eat us alive and when up to our waists just about ready to swim we grit our teeth we jump and we salt our skin
I wish I was her neighbor so I could speak to the foreheads bobbing up and down at her garden fence disgruntled that her lawn is knee high and I would be able to tell them, she is making magic elsewhere I could charge admission to her dandelion collection and present her with a small sum on her return - to go off again and show the world she makes magic
buttons
it is remarkable the difference a singular button can make, from formal to casual to daring to a desirable reveal of shape
i think, as i watch her in motion covet and overt, holding onto the freckles on her shoulders - i want to be her shirt
i loved not only her but the air around her: the rooms in which she sits, the paths on which she walks - the world in which she lives
oh little shrew, how unfortunate of you to meet your end at the house cats teeth. seemingly fair, we shall hereby declare him Giles, the bloodhungry beast
soiled
I look upon my dirt clad feet thinking in joy, I’ll decompose ‘cept for when the thistles wish to kiss my dirty toes I think upon my dirt clad mind of pale and delicate skin desire unclean, but in birth we gleam and thus may gleam therein Here’s to the bastards, the lustful lot those who care not for time Here’s to those who’s touch demands depose with dirty feet and dirty minds
