tbh I agree with you and really like byler having a btm will top mike preference in their relationship! it's so sweet to me? idk how to explain why, like ik switching is common irl (i think?) but i also think they're allowed to enjoy a pref and i find this one so good for them bc then it's fun when mike's in the mood to btm sometime. mike enjoying topping just feels so right to me, like people might doubt him but nope here he is expertly driving his boy absolutely insane with pleasure with his dick 🥵

Agree agree agree!! It just... it's hard to explain why but it feels so accurate for them. And that's the thing - preferences are soooo realistic I just always hate anyone in fandom fighting about it so, find what you like but don't discredit others ideas. But yes. It is sweet! I especially like the idea that they have a standard arrangement but thinking about Mike asking Will for it instead because he needs something different, oh that's good. And I dually love confident Mike in the bedroom, so pleased and happy and proud to get Will off like this, it's all from him. Let me take care of you. Love a Will who gets completely devotion laced dicked down, it's all he wants. And switching is more common than you'd think, but it kinda plays out the way we're describing here. A preference but not a never or an always. Switching it up when the mood strikes. Because it's a totally different feeling and mindset, want to fuck or to get fucked. Yeah, I also personally do prefer bottom Will / top Mike, but who do like to switch on occasion for variety, since that feels right for me. I always say preferences are fine because that's realistic in real life, and since we (probably?) won't ever know preferences in the canon characters, if you can write it well and make your HCs - go for it. No fighting. I'm pretty secure in my characterizations. But exploring different viewpoints is worthwhile. Are we having fun and being kind? It's playtime and we don't actually have to share our toys. We can just duplicate the dolls and play our own way with our backs turned to each other, casting a sneaky glance over the shoulder if we so want. Weird metaphor. Not what you asked for. You asked for fic recs.

As I'm doing a quick ao3 dive, there's definitely a lot more of bottom Will/top Mike and there's so little E or M fic in general! I may have missed some I also liked but I searched through position tags so if untagged, not here.

Fic recs:

i'm starving darling - really really really good car sex!! when we touch we are caressing stars - Fic about their relationship progression and covers a lot of ideas. They switch in this fic if I recall? so much good stuff there. Both this and the above are by @id-rather-be-home the unmarked mixtape - A fandom classic? Proof that a lot of the fandom is lying because over 100k hits on an E fic? Be serious. Good. Now, while I enjoyed this fic and it's one of the first I read for Byler, and so well written, I don't necessarily agree with all the characterizations. Almost treat it as an original story inspired by the characters to me at this point, no shade, just personal opinion. But it's still so good. Very realistic teenage relationship progression which I really appreciated. And the sex is well portrayed very well written. so good - Praise Kink!! we beat the odds together - Older Byler! Switching! This. Fic. Has. Everything.

ok first of all these all eat soooo good, 1000% endorse. second, i am truly a bottom mike enthusiast, just lots of enjoyment for me personally, and i do have some recs on that front! i absolutely cannot promise i will remember everything i love, several being featured by Vinny already, but here are some more that come to mind <3

no lifeguard on duty - @souverian-are-we my god i love this fic to death! the emotion is so palpable and i think the dynamic is very true to cannon and not a drastic, made-for-tv sexy shift, it feels very natural and explores really interesting facets of these character and certain incompatibilities that are kinda scary to think about but are so so rewarding and cathartic to read the ark of

the feminization of michael wheeler - lawofmurphie have they had sex yet? not quite. does mike want will to dick him down? i am absolutely positive. i just love this fic with my whole heart tbh

the other way - lawofmurphie mike bottoms for the first time!! generally speaking lawofmuphie has a lot of good bottom mike content A Curiosity Voyage - ExplicitShit i genuinely think this is one of the most brilliant concepts for a fic i have ever read. it is simply magic. its practice kissing but its mike trying to figure out how to finger himself, only out to himself, walked in on by an out will, who offers to help. all in a realistically emotionally distraught, embarrassed, stressful way. i am in awe.

boys to the yard - @kissingpractise omegaverse!! both omegas here. tbh probably my favorite omegaverse fic for them? idk man i love this fic, not always the biggest lover of omegaverse, i think sometimes the power dynamics are a little too drastic for my liking but this one has all my favorite aspects of the A/B/O ive read (possessiveness, very specific turn ons, and uncontrollable desire 👍)

christmas eve this one is actually trans mike which is not super common from all that ive read but theyre just lovely and sweet here

lay me down slow - @starsarefire824 i simply cannot resist an estrangement fic, the emotional damage is innumerable but its just too good. its not even that bottom mike is like a big thing in this, its just incredible writing, incredible sex scene, and mike happens to be bottoming yk

ok y'all i added a new system!! so every time ive added something new i felt like it was getting a little lost in the sauce, as it were. so ive decided to implement a new system. every time i add something new i will add it to the "New Arrivals" section.

but instead of just adding a new link to a page, it will be a link to the block Where i already linked the page so, for example, i just read Perfect Match Inc. and wanted to give it some love but, ive also read some other things by the same author so i added that author to the authors section as well and put Perfect Match Inc under that author. when you click the link in the New Arrivals section it will highlight and bring you to where that author's little section is located so that if you end up reading that fic and enjoying it, you now have other recs by the same author right there for you!! (can you tell i haven't had two days off with nothing to do for months?)

i think this is genuinely my favorite strangers to lovers byler fic Ever. i love the characterization of both Mike and Will, they’re both just horny, insecure, nerds. i love them so much. something you will learn about me quickly (or already have if you’ve read some of my commentary😭) is that i love almost anything group sex related and this FED ME!!! this is so out of their wheelhouse for the characters in canon but this did such a lovely job of asking “what would happen to these characters in order for them to end up here” and having those circumstances that brought them here still feel so accurate to who they are as people and who they would become had they not met each other until age 26.

so excited to see more of this little universe (esp the original scene will wanted to try with him being inexperienced and mike teaching him🙏🙏)
