“Is everyone here very stoned?”
I assume it’s because of the E4 repeats of Buffy in the UK recently but I keep seeing people drawing these clever parallels between BtVS and Doctor Who and it’s killing me
because Buffy is my favourite show of all time, one of my first childhood obsessions
and I’m having way too many deep thoughts about it now???
like how 12, in particular, just wants to fucking die in peace but he can’t because the universe needs him versus how Buffy gets dragged out of Heaven after dying for the second time because the world needs her:
[12 in ‘Heaven Sent’, fighting against the subconscious memories that are trying to keep him alive: “Can’t I just sleep?”]
[Buffy in ‘After Life’, explaining why she isn’t happy about being brought back from the dead, describing the afterlife she experienced: “I was warm. And I was loved. And I was finished.”]
the whole fucken thing is like
Buffy/12: can I have little a death? as a treat?
Everyone: no. fuck you. go and fight this demigod
and that’s not even mentioning the obvious Faith/The Master parallels:
[12 and Missy in ‘The Lie of The Land’, where 12 is disgusted by Missy’s suggestion to kill one person to save many: “We don’t sacrifice people. It’s wrong, because it’s easy.”]
[Buffy and Faith in ‘Consequences’, where Buffy is trying to make Faith admit that killing one innocent human is not acceptable collateral damage to save the town: “Nobody is asking you to be like me, but you can’t go on like this.”]
I didn’t set out to write a long in-depth post but someone cleverer and more patient than me has probably already made a huge compilation of Faith quotes that sound exactly like Missy quotes, including this one from the same scene:
Faith: See, you need me to toe the line, because you’re afraid you’ll go over it, aren’t you?
Buffy and the Doctor are both desperately lonely heroes who keep saving the world because they have no choice, and the only friends they have who are “even remotely like them” keep turning evil and hurting them
AND ALSO
in light of The Timeless Children
consider:
the Slayer exists because millennia ago a bunch of awful dudes took some little girl, did magic at her, and were like “hey. it’s your job now. save the world for us. don’t worry about dying, we’ll just make more of you”
the Doctor exists because millennia ago a bunch of awful ppl took some little girl, did science at her, and were like “hey. it’s your job now. investigate the world for us. don’t worry about dying, we’ll just make more of you”
in conclusion, I have no point to make but I can’t stop thinking about this
do you think the finale of Doctor Who will be a magic burst of artron energy or some shit that turns all of the potential Doctors into actual Doctors
Blood is life, lack-brain. Why do you think we eat it? It’s what keeps you going. Makes you warm. Makes you hard. Makes you other than dead.

I got this video message from James Marsters (Spike, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) for my friend Holly who is expecting her first child. It’s honestly the best advice, sweet and funny – if you didn’t love him already, you will if you watch this! He’s the most amazing human!
