when you deep it, the very real feeling outrage about will not going to the olympics, which was always a scenario made up entirely by fandom and would not in a million years ever happen in a real life hockey context, at least not in the way it was imagined, shows the deeper underlying problem right now, which is that people are demanding certain real life behavior and narratives from real life actual people, then getting mad and stressed when it doesn't happen exactly like they wanted and imagined it and taking it personal, instead of letting the narrative happen to them, observing it as an impartial audience and doing something fun with whatever they're presented with because in the end it doesn't actually matter what happens in real life, it never did, it never does, because rpf is never about real life anyway, just about getting some outlines to fill in with you own creativity

13yo me who had no business being obsessed with revenge romance books and now can’t stop thinking about how i really wanted to TRY writing a fic with this trope.... and not exactly a soft one.

and there's so many ideas in my mind. like mack kinda idolizes will back in high school. but then will during a game against mack's older brother, accidentally causes a career ending injury to aiden that makes him quit hockey. and now mack wants revenge obv. so when will goes to bc, mack picks bu. and makes it his life goal to infiltrate will’s life and do pretty much anything to get close to him and sabotage his season. will just sees mack as an easy conquest at first, thinking he can go for the no strings fling thing bc it’s way easier than actually having to go out and look for someone else to hook up with. only for them to actually fall for each other. or like something that starts bc of their dads (the ultimate cliche). or will ghosts mack after a hookup and later commits to bc which ofc makes mack commit to bu as a big fuck you and then decides to make that man's life a living hell by showing up to every single bc party and just reminding will of what he lost.

but then i remember this would only work in a longer fic where i could actually develop their relationship correctly and immediately stop thinking about it 😭
