what are they talking about?
i am not so well verses in contract talk but do i understand signing bonuses correctly?
the signing bonus "part" of a player's salary is paid out on july 1st and the other "part" of the player's salary is paid out over the course of the season?
yep! the signing bonus is typically paid july 1st (considered the first day of the new league year) but can be negotiated for a different date, and the salary part gets paid out over the entire season. biweekly.. like me lol
from the athletic (2023):
and if youâre curious about how nhlers pay taxes, puckpedia has an in-depth faq here!
signing bonuses were used by cap savvy teams like florida to keep their cap hits down (e.g. how they managed to re-sign bennett AND marchand AND ekblad), and also leveraged to make leo carlssonâs offer sheet more painful to match. however, the new cba going into effect on sept 15 will cap the max % of aav that the total signing bonus value can be, to 60% (more detail here).
bedard extension at lastâŚâŚ. 5 years so the hawks only bought 1 year of UFA but $15m aav is def lower than i expected lol
all $9.8m signing bonuses lmaoooo bedsyyyyyy
do you think mack is doing the same too because he did say he discussed contract stuff with bedsy?
mack has the luxury of waiting another year, and heâll def continue to play at a superstar caliber this upcoming season.. so.. heâll probably bet on himself and wait til next summer to sign like. 5 years x $20m aav and weâll be like, well, it couldâve been worse! đ
obv it would be ideal if gmmg signed mack and will this summer. but seeing as we donât even have a graf extension yet as of july 18th.. i canât really see the big ticket contracts landing rn
prof hockey is a little more optimistic than me on the aav (or rather iâm overly pessimistic) but i agree with him on term, 5-6 yrs ideally imo

2027 draft-eligible prospect carter meyer says he models his game after macklin celebrini (x)

okay but i do think if jacob trouba had done his full hockey gear lathered up in paint run at a canvas thing in the nineteen seventies that man couldve retired and spent all his time sitting around in new york somewhere and writing a manifesto. and i wouldve eaten that shit up in my modern art lecture
youre gonna tell me you dont like jacob trouba big red? you dont find jacob trouba leap of faith as interesting as it is beautiful in its contrast? thats what youre going to come in here and say to me?
(anon from last post): I'm referring to this wonderful hilarious fanfic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/85722286
here ya go!
nah theyâll definitely milk giving mack the c, itâs been the talk of the town, no way theyâre missing the chance to do something
iâm honestly kind of amazed that the sharks managed to resist not giving mack the c any sooner (the end of the 25-26 season perhaps?). but also the hockey canada stamp of approval makes the decision way easier for this upcoming season. anyway itâll be a big deal on opening night and i will be #there!!!!
i seriously wanna die every time someone say âmack doesnât care about money as long as he can put NTC for will in his contractâ in non-rpf way⌠like how are people seriously believing this? are they just new to hockey?
it makes me feel like this lol
Your Romanjose tag made me giggle because at first I thought it just said Romanjosi
itâs meant to be. san jose always has room for one more gorgeous dilf who can play good defense đ
Watched this latest interview with Alex Nedeljkovic and he got asked what his top all-time starting lineup would be (3 forwards and 2 d-men) if he could only pick from his current or former teammates (not just the NHL but the other leagues he played in as well) - basically, anyone he's ever played on a team with.
Just as a reminder, since the 2018/19 season Nedeljkovic has played for the following NHL teams: the Canes, the Red Wings, the Penguins and now the Sharks. So keep their rosters in mind.
His first two answers for forwards were the usual suspects: Sid and Mack.
Then he had trouble deciding on the third but this is how the conversation went from there:
1. After he got clarification that they were looking for someone who would complement Sid and Mack the best, there was absolutely NO hesitation in saying it's Will.
2. He's basically putting Will on the same level as Svechnikov - a guy who's 5 years older than Will, is undoubtedly his team's second best player (this last season he was 2nd in goals scored, trailing after 1st by only 1 goal; 3rd in points scored, trailing after 2nd only by 1 point) and literally just won a Stanley Cup with the Canes.
3. Can't talk about Will without mentioning the chemistry with Mack lmao.
Also, after he picks all five players (Sid, Mack, Will, Slavin and Mo Seider) he finishes with: "I think those five guys would be pretty hard to beat. You could put those five up against almost anybody, I think."
đ
What are your thoughts on Jeff Kealty getting hired as the sharksâ new assistant GM?
as far as i understand it, hiring jeff kealty was to fill an agm vacancy after ryane clowe left (he returned to the new york rangers, likely to be closer to family on the east coast).
kealty comes from the nashville predators, where he worked his way up from scout (p typical of former players lol) to the predsâ agm & director of scouting role, where he worked in both amateur and professional scouting. imo he has a good track record, and has ties with gmmg (former bu teammates) and warso (2025 worlds):
it seems his role with the sharks will be more focused on leading professional scouting, which is encouraging for me - i think it fits the stage of the rebuild that the sharks are entering now, where we have a promising young core and now have to build around them by providing them a strong and cost efficient âsupporting castâ that fit how the sharks want to play. without making smart decisions on the pro scouting side, you canât build a cap compliant championship team âď¸
also itâs not surprising to see some agm changes in nashville rn bc they just brought in a new gm (they poached chris macfarland from the avs by offering him an expanded role he couldnât get in colorado under joe sakic) and new gms will always do some shuffling & turnover of their staff.
QUESTIONS I WISH MEDIA WOULD ASK PLAYERS AFTER THE GAME
thank you to the nhl tiktok admin for making this video. i do not appreciate the outfit you ended with.
