Ok it's just that I've been listening to the entire beatles catalogue for like the past two months or something and it reminded me of all the endless debates about whether pretty odd by p!atd was a beatles-esque album or not and the conclusion that I saw was almost always "well it's inspired by the beatles but it doesn't really sound like them" which. as someone who had literally never heard a beatles song by the time I was 17 (besides like here comes the sun or whatever) I just accepted like oh Yeah that makes sense.

And you would see interviews with ryan and jon in particular like "oh yeah we went heavy with the beatles imagery and baroque style of music. You Could say we were inspired by them. Yeah" and I also took them at face-value because they didn't outright say that the album sounds like the beatles bc maybe it just doesn't. I wouldn't know, right. Also there were so many dumb debates about whether it was bad to try to sound like the beatles or not and if it was technically plagiarism or if it was creatively corrupt or whatever and now THAT was crazy to me. And in an attempt to defend My Boys At The Time I remember parroting the same talking points of like "well just because it's inspired by the beatles doesn't mean it sounds like them" so on and so forth

Fast forward 10 years later. I am listening to the beatles for the first time. Guys. Guys. Pretty. Odd. doesn't just sound like the beatles. It's very obviously a homage to the Beatles. Like the fact that it sounds like the Beatles is 100% on purpose. And this was extremely common from other established artists, especially rock bands. Why the fuck was it a problem if panic! at the disco did it alnclwnckfnlgjrkvn it just doesn't make SENSE. IT'S A FANTASTIC ALBUM!??! WHY WAS EVERYONE SO MAD AT IT!!!!
