OP EDIT: also hi i'm like 99% sure that this is a volkswanderung medal = a german hiking medal, and the possible reason we've been so stuck on trying to ID the medallion is that ............it doesnt actually exist anywhere else. because there were so many of these hiking/walking competitions that a) it's an actual sport even now, which is extremely german, b) they're so common that one will never cost you more than like 5-15 bucks. they are really not that hard to find lol
