The Final Memory
Wu sat on a chair beside his father’s ancient bed. He held his father’s hand the entire time; neither of them spoke a word. Instead, Wu simply squeezed his father’s hand whenever he felt the old man’s tension—or perhaps, it was his own.
His father’s age spanned millions of years. Wu had never imagined this day would actually come. In truth, there were moments in his life when he felt his father would live forever. He would always be there to advise him, guide him, and stand by his side—a thought that had kept him at peace since he was a child.
Wu could not imagine a world without him. He wasn't ready for the responsibility; he wasn't ready to stand alone. He wasn't ready for anything.
Wu listened in silence to the sound of his father’s breathing. The old man’s chest rose and fell heavily, a wheezing sound escaping with every exhale. Wu’s heart was breaking, forced to watch his father like this for the past few days. He hadn't slept, fighting to keep his eyes open. He didn't want to think pessimistically; he prayed his father would miraculously wake up and they would return to their normal lives. Wu couldn't accept the idea that his father was dying; in his mind, this appointment with fate was still a lifetime away.
Suddenly, the First Spinjitzu Master took a deep breath and released it in a slow sigh. Wu lifted his father’s hand to his mouth, kissing it tenderly.
The First Master looked at his son. Despite his blurred vision, he could feel his son’s emotions. Wu had always been predictable, at least to him.
"Wu..." the First Master managed to say, taking another deep breath.
Wu looked into his father’s eyes, giving him his undivided attention while holding his hand, squeezing it gently.
"Wu... cough... your brother..." The First Master continued, slowly raising his hand.
Wu leaned his face closer to his father’s hand, and as it rested on his cheek, he pressed against it. He tried to hold back the tears welling up in his eyes; he didn't want his father to feel him crying. He had to be strong—strong for him, just this once.
"Garmadon is fine, Father... he is coming," Wu said, reassuring him, though his voice trembled slightly. He wasn't sure Garmadon was coming; he wasn't even sure Garmadon cared enough to show up. Something deep inside him suspected his father knew the truth, but he hoped his doubts were lies.
"...He won’t come, Wu," the First Master said. His expression of exhaustion didn't change, but Wu could feel the bitterness in his voice.
"He will come..." Wu insisted. "He will. He promised me."
"Wu..."
"He’ll come, he’ll come..." Wu began to tremble, his breath shaking with him. He realized he was repeating the words to convince himself, not his father.
"Wu... it’s alright..." the First Master said softly.
Wu could no longer hold back his tears. His father’s tone was breaking his resolve piece by piece. The First Master gently wiped away the first tear that escaped his son’s eye.
His father couldn't leave him. Not while he couldn't even stop himself from crying... not while he was this weak.
Wu leaned down and rested his head on his father’s chest. The First Master placed his hand on his son’s head as Wu shuddered, sobbing and trying to stifle his tears. He could hear his father’s heartbeat beneath his head, a sound he tried to carve deep into his memory. Focusing on it only increased the pain, yet he wanted to preserve every memory—or what was left of them.
He could feel his father’s hand stroking his hair calmly, as if there were no problems in the world, as if they were still children and still had so much life to live, so much to fix.
Wu buried his sobs in his father’s chest, his tears soaking the old man's tunic. He didn't know what to say or do; he found himself suddenly weighed down by memories, regret, and heartache. Life could have been better than this.
"Don’t go," Wu pleaded through muffled tears, his voice breaking. "I..." He couldn't finish as his body shook again. So much to say, so little time.
"Everything will be alright... cough," the First Master said quietly, his hand still stroking his son’s hair. "I raised you both as I should... the day comes when all boys become men to bring glory to their fathers," he said in a raspy voice.
"I am not a man, Father..." Wu said against his chest.
"But you are... I am sorry that thousands of years were not enough for me to make you both feel that," the First Master replied softly.
"I am sorry that thousands of years were not enough for me to make you proud of me," Wu said, his voice shattered between sobs.
"Is that what you think?" The First Master said with a small smile. "Look at me." He gently lifted his son’s head to look at him.
Wu looked at his father with bloodshot eyes, searching for some comfort.
"I never expected heroics from you... I never waited for grand deeds... cough. My pride in you... was never tied to what you did."
Wu listened with his heart, his eyes memorizing every movement.
"Wu... from the very first moment you both opened your eyes to the world, I have been proud of you."
Wu let out a soft gasp as he listened.
"Every breath... every step... Wu... you two are the most precious things I ever possessed. Every time I looked at you, I saw the reason I fought all those years. How could I not be proud to have sons like you?" The First Master said, tears finally beginning to fall from his own eyes.
Wu hugged his father tightly, weeping against his chest once more. The First Master kissed the top of his son’s head.
"I don’t want to leave either... and just as you are afraid, I am afraid too," the First Master whispered into his son’s hair, holding him close. "I love you, Wu."
"I love you too," Wu whispered against his father’s chest.
Minutes passed, and Wu didn't lift his head until his eyes grew heavy and a headache set in. He didn't want to sleep... he didn't want to waste this time... but his father’s hand stroking his head and the heartbeat beneath him brought a sense of peace. It felt as if time had frozen in the past, and he wished he could stay there forever.
Wu’s eyes grew heavy until they closed completely.

"Wu?... Wu."
A familiar voice hit Wu’s ears. Garmadon?
"Wu, wake up."
His brother’s voice was calm as he patted his shoulder gently. Wu only looked at him. The sound of the heartbeat beneath his head was gone.
Everyone in the room stood in silence while Wu remained frozen in the memory. He was already gone.
Wu closed his eyes again for a moment, wishing the memory would take him back for just one more second—a dream that would gather them all together once again.

The monastery was quieter than you expected. When your family told you the First Spinjitzu Master had accepted you as a student, you imagined a place filled with constant sparring and shouting. Instead, the mountain was wrapped in a peaceful stillness, broken only by the rustle of trees and the distant clack of wooden practice swords.
The First Spinjitzu Master welcomed you with a gentle smile. "Welcome to the monastery. I hope your journey was peaceful." You bowed respectfully. "Thank you, again for this opportunity first spinjistu master sir." You answered nervously, nothing could have prepared you to actually be face to face with the first spinjistu master.
He didn't need a sixth sense to be able to tell you were nervous. Offering another smile he spoke calmly "You'll be staying here for some time. There is much to learn, and everyone learns at their own pace." He turned to his two sons calling over one of them "Wu."
The young boy turned to head over to his father, wooden sword placed back where it had once been. "Yes, Father?"
"Would you be so kind as to show our guest around the monastery?" Wu glances at you before smiling warmly. "Of course."
During the tour Wu points out different places around the monastery. Stopping every few steps to explain the history of an item or painting.
"That tree has been here since before I was born."
"The architecture of these walls date back towards the beginning of time"
"This painting was painted by a well known artist during what people speculate to be blah blah blah Yap Yap yap"
You smiled at his eagerness to share knowledge, he clearly enjoys explaining things. That's one thing you have in common, being able to explain something of interest and losing track of time on it.
You ask follow up questions on the things that most interest you some bizarre others he would enjoy thinking about before giving his best theories. Before you knew it you started to like hearing him talk.
The next place he stopped at was right before the library. He took notice of the vase on the table "This vase is older than it looks..." He started to ramble on with a faint blush you couldn't quite make out the reason.
your mind started to lose focus and eyes started to drift to the library door the place you were most interested to see and the place you were planning to spend most of your time in. Your legs moved before your mind could, reaching for the handle
"Ah—wait!"
Wu hurried after you, letting out a quiet laugh. "The library was actually next on the tour." he scrambled to follow behind you as you went further and further into the library. "You like books too?"
You paused, turning back to him with a teasing smile. "I thought it was obvious" you let out a small tiny little not that big laugh perhaps a chuckle and he joined in on whatever kind of laugh that was.
Your gaze swept across the endless shelves. "Wow..."
Wu smiled, clearly pleased by your reaction. "I had the same expression the first time I came in."
"There are over a thousand scrolls here," Wu said proudly letting his fingers gently glide between scrolls. "Maybe more. I stopped counting."
"You counted?"
Wu freezes for a second. "...Yes."
"Every single one?"
"...Yes."
"...You're a little strange." You did something (I seriously don't know what that laugh is called idk if it actually has a name ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔ ˢᵒʳʳʸ )
Wu rubs the back of his neck, slightly embarrassed. "I've been told that before."
Months have passed since your studies you couldn't help but be drawn to wu. Not a single moment with his was dull, you laughed, joked, and even cried together. You'd find yourself making excuses to see him letting him ramble on about the history of Ninjago taking note of how happy he seemed to be explaining it to you.
You start bringing him snacks because he forgets to eat while studying and he remembers every little thing you tell him. Your favorite flower, the tea you like, little stories about your hometown.
Neither of you seems to have the courage to confess your feelings after what felt like a eternity.
Wu worries he'll never measure up to Garmadon, who seems naturally gifted in combat. You seem to be pulled away for your studies when you get the courage to ask him to a date.
Your studies have progressed way faster than intended, you were needed someplace else, and the thought of leaving settled heavily in your chest. If you walked away now without saying anything, you'd spend the rest of your life wondering what could have been.
You decided your going to ask him to spend some time together before you leave. You find him in the library, of course. He's reading, but looked up the moment you walks in.
"You're back." He said excitedly, eyes lighting up at the sight of you.
"Would you... like to go into the village with me tomorrow? Just the two of us." You asked a bit nervous.
Wu freezes at the sudden invitation. He knows exactly what you're asking and it only made him blush more. He's quiet for a few seconds before smiling. "I'd like that."
During the outing, you couldn't help but watch him be nervous. The actual date was nothing special, you walked through a market, shared a sweet bun, look at flowers, and watched the sunset on the walk back. A pretty simple date for most but it was everything to you, the shared glances followed by the awkward looking away pretending neither of you were starting at each other, the shaky voice he had when giving you a beautiful flower everything was magical.
Then, near the end he built up the courage to ask the question. "Can I tell you something?" Wu asked. You nod mind racing with excitement "I've spent months trying to convince myself that what I feel would pass, the feeling I had for you. I was so convinced that I wasn't good enough and I still don't think I am" he tried continuing the sentence but you stopped him, placing your hand on the side of his cheek ""

He fell silent, hesitantly meeting your eyes. You continued "You don't have to prove anything to me." A warm smile spread across your face.
"I fell for the person who could spend hours talking about history without realizing how much time had passed. The one who remembers the little things I tell him, who always treats people with kindness, and who somehow makes every ordinary day feel special." You let out a soft laugh.
"You were enough long before either of us realized how we felt." He laughs nervously. He reached for your hand gently squeezing it with a tender smile.
That encouragement sticks with him for years. Romantic Ending After a long day of training, they're watching the sunset from the monastery steps.
Wu admits he's always looked forward to studying because it meant he'd probably run into her.
You remind him that knowledge is its own strength. His kindness and wisdom help people in ways a sword can't. And it helped remind yourself that the courage to do something isn't easy but the easy path isn't a fulfilling one.
That encouragement sticks with him for years.
I cringed so hard at "Can I tell you something?" Ughh 😭 btw none of my works have been proofread sry I literally get these out of my ass I said that in my very first wattpad fic 😔
