straight vs queer ships in shows are always like….omg girl and boy shared a lingering glance once? that must mean they’re in love?…versus i killed my father because he dared lay hands on you. when i was doing it i felt like the divine light of justice and my love for you felt pure and clean and holy because i rid the world of evil in devotion to you.
“ Someone will get you Someone will have me And we'll be a picture A bittersweet memory And we'll find a reason It had to go this way And I'll have a good life, darling But it won't be with you”

THE TESTAMENTS 1.09 "Marat Sade"
The Testaments S01E09 "Marat Sade"
becka out here killing her father, saying she did it for agnes, saying she protected her, saying she'd do anything for her, will you run away with me?? with the most deranged love filled gaze. im.
Daisy ripping her own blouse and running screaming toward the men begging them for protection and then desperately praying, "Although I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil 'cause I know he is with me!" was so insane. Like god damn I was so proud of her; she's got the revolutionary spirit and she's learned well how to speak the language of the place she's infiltrated to get done what she needs to!
I think people are giving Agnes entirely too much shit for that scene with Becka. She has been raised in a patriarchal society where there only option is marrying a man. The only thing these girls know about being gay is that it makes you a "gender traitor" and a sinner. To Agnes what Becka is saying is probably akin to being in high school and telling your friends you'd rather die than graduate. She thinks Becka is just being immature.
That is not to say Agnes didn't cause any harm, because she did. But you guys are trying to place that scene in the context of what we know and not what they know as citizens of Gilead.
The Testaments S01E06 "Stadium"
It’s been a few years since I read the book but is anyone else getting the vibe in the show that Aunt Vidala isn’t entirely on gilead’s side , like the scene with the executed men when she seemed like she didn’t want to call them rapists (maybe bc in gilead sex with any woman that’s not your wife would be considered rape even if it’s consensual, and although there’s the story about them abducting a school age girl we don’t know if that’s actually true or if that’s just what the regime is saying today, all we can confirm is the state executed a few guys) and in the maiming / two minutes hate / particicution (bc how are they planning to stop the bleeding) scene she looked unsettled and holding back tears. Show aunt vidala is striking me more as a character trying to survive, who cares about her position because it provides her a level comfort and security, and who is willing to do heinous things to maintain that position, not a true believer and she doesn’t revel in it
"Daisy can't be Nicole because the ages don't line up! Agnes/Hannah should be way older!"
Bestie, this is continuing the show "The Handmaid's Tale". I thought we have all universally agreed that the ages of anyone, ESPECIALLY children, is more of a suggestion, a hypothetical, a vibe even.
The Testaments is fantastic. Entertaining, but never indulgent. Honest and yet resolutely hopeful. Great writing, great acting, great sets and cinematography. It is powerfully woman centered. And thank God critics agree and are as uninterested in Nick Blaine as people over 12 are
