The Magpie Lord by K.J. Charles

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

(LGBTQIA, fantasy, historical) Interesting things about this book:

• The magic system is interesting. It's not discussed in depth in this book, but it has witchcraft vibes. There are ghosts, something similar to voodoo dolls, and police for the magicians.

• It deals a bit with homophobia and religious traditions due to the historical period in which it's set.

• There's basically a fight for magical power.

• There are tattoos that move; the rest of that would be a spoiler.

Crane's sense of humor is 10/10; he has no filter, and the romance is based more on something casual due to the conditions of each character, something different from the fantasies I've read lately.

i didn't polish it quite as much as the og, simply because my artistic focus has shifted away from the over-polished, over-detailed style. the original has its charms but it is far too stiff for me now. also the outfit was just. so wrong.

Happy birthday, Baz! ❤️

Here is a companion piece to Simon's birthday post because sometimes, love is as simple as holding your pee for four hours. Real talk though, Simon helping Baz out of his jacket melts my heart every time. Simon probably couldn't care less about Baz's clothes (or clothes in general). I might be wrong but I imagine, if it were him, he'd just ripped them off and be done but "I know he won't want it ruined" so he takes the time to - carefully - help him out of his jacket and then he unbuttons his shirt, one annoyingly tiny button at a time, because he knows that even if Baz isn't in a state to care about it now, he will care later. This, to me, is the epitome of love and devotion. No "I love you" needed.

And I would be remiss if I didn't also wish the happiest of birthdays to @rainbowrowell without whom none of us would be here. Thank you for the laughter and the tears and for celebrating love in all its beautiful and complex forms. Your books are a gift to mankind. I can't wait for Cherry Baby!

A couple of months ago, I had this overly ambitious desire to draw my own cover for the first volume. I made a rough sketch of Damen, did a rough draft of Laurent, and came up with a kind of cool concept where the spine would connect the front and back covers with chain. As you can see, there are no covers to speak of, but here is a sketch of Laurent. Perhaps it was just my desire to draw him in a thorn bush. After all, he is also a captive prince. 👉🏻👈🏻
