The Loyal Pin Episode 14 Detective Team Palace on a mission ðŦĄ @userdramas creator bingo: single font, transition
AnilPin + cars throughout the years
Can you truly be mine tonight?
Some of y'all weren't mad enough at Patricia for this.
But I'll carry this grudge for the rest of my life.
It kills me that we've seen Anin be comforted by everyone around her (as she should be) but haven't seen Pin be comforted by anyone. Anin gets to cry in the arms of people who love her but Pin cries alone. There's no one to hold her. No one to say comforting things to her. There's no big brother, no loving mom, no dear friend. Patt is only being nice to her because Pin is doing what she wants.
All Pin has is a stuffed rabbit.
Anyone else been waiting for this since the trailer came out
I donât know why some people in the fandom still donât get this but it needs to be said. Pin has no power. She may be a lady but her will can be overruled by every ranked individual in that palace. It doesnât matter what she wants. Her fighting was when she pleaded with her aunt. When she saw that didnât work she accepted her fate because what else is she supposed to do? Sheâs just the poor orphan they took in. She has no agency. Stop blaming her for not acting like Anin when Anin has far more privilege and support than she has ever had.
Just look at the difference between how their mothers reacted to the news of them being together. Anins mother was overwhelmed by the idea of Anin giving up her title because she loves her so much she couldnât bear the thought of of losing her. She accepted her almost immediately. Alternatively Pinsâ mom slash aunt aka the only real family she has blamed her for the relationship, called her an ungrateful disgrace and said she would rather her die than have her be with Anin.
I love Anin but itâs easy to be bold when everyone around you listens to you, respects your opinion and encourages to be a free thinker even when that goes against societal expectations. Itâs much harder to be bold when you grew up with a mother who beat you when your friend got herself hurt because sheâs of higher rank.
There's a point, when Anil is walking away from Pin after stating that she never wants to see Pin's face again (for the second time), that you actually see the whites of Freen's eyes reddening in real time as her eyes start to swim with tears.
The acting.
Lady Pilanthita Kasidit ⥠Princess Anilapat Sawettavarit
In my view, the fabric that represents Kueakiat's feeling for Lady Pin is like a fine and elegant silk with expensive value. Then, are you able to see the fabric which represents my feeling for Lady Pin?
Becky Armstrong as PRINCESS ANIN THE LOYAL PIN | EP. 12
One of the most important aspects to consider in The Loyal Pin, in this episode especially, is perspective. I have been really trying to establish that Anil's perspective and choices come from a place of royal privilege combined with western influence; Patt's come from a place of honoring status and tradition; and Pin, being influenced by her aunt / adoptive mother, knows the affordance of having title vs. not.
Anil is willing to sacrifice her title in order to be with Pin, but it's not as simple as it might seem. Renouncing one's title is a very formal process, where it is required that the King be officially informed of her decision and the reason behind that decision. Anil would have to relinquish any property or assets that were afforded to her because of her title; and would, therefore, be unable to stay at the Savettavarit Palace. She would lose any monetary benefits and be required by law to change her royal surname. Most importantly, she would have to sever all ties with her family... a commoner cannot visit or casually interact with royalty, especially when that commoner previously held title that once afforded them the privilege to do so (it is considered to be socially inappropriate).
Pin is unwilling to have Anil sacrifice her entire life for her. Instead, she is willing to make the less extreme sacrifice so that Anil does not have to suffer the loss of her family or live within the uncertainty of her future. As Prince Anan points out, Pin loves Anil more than she loves herself.
"Where else could I go? I could only go as far as the wall of this palace would allow me to."
Anil wants nothing more than to love Pin, but her title does not 'allow' her to. It can be said that both Anil and Pin value each other more than themselves, but their choices and decisions are bound to their status within society and its imbalance within their own relationship. And which character within the narrative could truly understand that? Ironically... Princess Patt.
And though Anil was prevented from renouncing her title, she can still twist her privilege to suit her future resolutions... something that Pin, given her position, is unable to do.
"I will give up on this love, only when you can find someone I truly love, who is also of the same or higher rank. Only then will I allow myself to completely erase her from my heart. Otherwise, never expect me to waste my time and marry anyone for the rest of my life."
Kuea's entitlement continues to rear its ugly head.
"How embarrassing it is that my ring seems to be of very little value and elegance when compared to her own ring."
For someone who claims to love and cherish Khun Pin, he rarely considers her happiness. Because, as Anil rightfully pointed out, Pin is nothing but an earned possession- a trophy to him... though he is hardly worthy of her. KNOW. YOUR. PLACE.
The series highlights a traditional Thai engagement ceremony known as āļāļāļāļĢāļąāļāđāļŦāļ§āđ (pronounced 'kwang rap wai'). The 'exchanging of blessings' is a practice where the engaged couple pays respects to their family through order of seniority / rank. The couple presents the āļāļēāļāļāļđāļāđāļāļĩāļĒāļāđāļ (pronounced 'phan thuup thian phae') in exchange for blessings and gifts from their elders. The offering consists of an arrangement of items used in blessing ceremonies (like candles and incense) combined with flowers and decor that signify auspicious values.
The Loyal Pin has gifted me what Iâve been craving from GL series: a sapphic pair who are unhealthily codependent and boobs-to-the-wall unhinged for each other.
âLady Pin is super sad youâre leaving, Princess.â
âReally? How sad?â
âShe has run out of mangoes and is resorting to carving papayas, Princess.â
âOh, fuck, that is serious. She wasnât even this upset when I sucked that snake venom out of her leg.â
âIndeed, Princess.â
And this is episode TWO.
Go watch The Loyal Pin, itâs perfect.
Becky Armstrong as Princess Anin & Freen Sarocha as Lady Pin in The Loyal Pin 1x02
This series continues to be a love letter to Thai tradition. It makes me sooo happy to get to share these cultural insights with you guys through watching Girl's Love media. We've come so far ððð
So... This episode didn't really highlight any traditional Thai dishes, but in keeping with last week's edition, I want to at least mention two that stood out:
āļāđāļāļĄāđāļ§āļ (pronounced 'chor muang') are flower dumplings that were to be considered part of royal Thai cuisine. The dumplings are filled with a sweet and salty pork mixed with roasted peanuts. They are wrapped in a purple dough that gets its coloring from being dyed by butterfly pea flowers steeped in water with lime juice. (Any fellow UWMAers will recognize this dish, as the process of how to make them were included in that series)
āļŠāļĨāļ°āļĨāļāļĒāđāļāđāļ§ (pronounced 'sala loy kaew') is another version of the dessert we discussed last week. It is made by having Salak fruit 'floating' in iced sugared syrup. Salak is a fruit native to Southeast Asia (specifically Indonesia). The Thai variety have more flesh with a uniquely sweet and slightly sour taste.
āļĒāļīāļāļāļ·āļāļāļąāļāļāļĨāđāļ§āļĒ (pronounced 'ying peun gahn gluay') is a traditional children's game typically played amongst young boys. It is a game where children "shoot" at each other with an imaginary rifle that is made from banana stalks. They swipe one hand quickly along the banana stalk, and the following impact causes the upright parts of the stem ("the ammo") to loudly "snap"... a sound similar to that of a gunshot. The banana rifles are called āļāļ·āļāļāļāļāļāļĨāđāļ§āļĒ (pronounced 'peun gahn gluay') hence the name of the game... and the "horses", which are also made from banana stalks, are called āļĄāđāļēāļāļāļāļāļĨāđāļ§āļĒ (pronounced 'ma gahn gluay').
āļĨāļāļĒāļāļĢāļ°āļāļ - Thailand's Loy Krathong Festival is probably something viewers are already familiar with if they've watched other Thai dramas. It is a Thai tradition that takes place on the night of the full moon during the 12th lunar month. "Krathongs", which can be translated as 'ritual lantern vessels', are made from natural materials including banana leaves and flowers. They are often formed in the shape of a lotus to symbolize rebirth, strength, and resilience. For Anil and Pin it is a gesture to make merit, while simultaneously wishing for each otherâs happiness and good fortune. It is representative of their hope for only good blessings to come into their lives while they are apart.
In more modern tradition, there are also certain romantic undertones revolving around the Loy Krathong Festival. It is said that any couple who float a Krathong together, will be bound together for life.
Aside from these cultural aspects, there are a few other instances I want to note.
I loved seeing the juxtaposition of Anil knowing and actively wanting to pursue a romantic relationship with Pin... and Pin only just coming to the realization that, maybe, her fond affection for Anil actually runs a lot deeper. I also want to point out, that Prik's participation in facilitating their romantic relationship is incredibly risky. As a low-ranking servant of the palace, she stands to receive the harshest punishment for 'breaking convention'. Which brings me to this scene:
There are so many social class dynamics happening in just this one scene alone. Pin cannot afford to be rude to a higher ranking official by saying, upfront, she does not wish for him to pursue her. Prik is being used as a shield to protect Pin from Kuea's advances. And Kuea, as a friend of Prince Anon AND who holds title himself, is blissfully unaware that his presence is completely unwelcome... because who, in their right mind, could ever want to turn away a person of his fortune and stature? Aaahhh, it's just such a brilliant scene!!!
"Pin, am I pretty?"

As long as Iâm with you, any place is good for me. The place is not crowded, so it feels as if there were only two of us here. Why didnât we just do it in the palace? So that we donât have to sneak out like this. I want to cherish every wonderful moment with you before we will part ways.
