Some amazing cosplayers got together to show support for Hong Kong after the Blizzard controversy. For those who didn’t know, Blizzard banned pro Hearthstone winner for supporting Hong Kong and took away his prize money. So many American companies, Blizzard, NBA, Hollywood, and countless more are censoring free speech in fear of angering China and losing out on Chinese money. It’s ironic when Blizzard’s slogan is “Every Voice Matters” and their games features heros fighting for justice. Let’s show them such hypocrisy won’t be tolerated! 

Meanwhile the people of Hong Kong are fighting hard for their own freedom and democracy against the totalitarian regime of China. I was born and raised in China myself and I saw first hand the extreme level of censorship and nationalist propaganda people are subject to. If you speak out in China, you will get disappeared. Don’t let this happen to the people of Hong Kong, stand for what is just. Don’t let greed for money speak louder than freedom.

Sigma’s Consciousness and Schrödinger’s Cat

I was SO EXCITED to see that Sigma had a Schrödinger’s cat spray, because Schrödinger’s cat was one of the first things that came to mind for me when I first watched Sigma’s origin story.

So for people who aren’t familiar with the concept, Schrödinger’s cat is this thought experiment that describes concepts of quantum superposition and the Copenhagen interpretation. The Copenhagen interpretation states that in quantum mechanics, objects can remain in multiple states until they are interacted with/measured. In the thought experiment of Schrödinger’s cat, there is a cat and a vial of poison set to shatter if radioactivity–the decaying of a single atom–is detected. If that decay is detected, the poison vial is shattered and the cat is killed by the poison (I’m guessing Schrödinger was not terribly fond of cats–but this is a thought experiment, no cats are actually being harmed here). 

Of course, the shattering of the vial is dependent on the quantum-superposed atom. After a while, we do not know if the cat in the box is alive or dead–hence the state of quantum superposition where the cat is both alive and dead. When we open the box, we see the cat as either alive or dead, thus indicating that with interaction and measurement, the object previously in an overlapping quantum state goes from one state of being to another. These days we mostly use the term “Schrödinger’s cat” as a sort of shorthand to describe things existing in multiple states until they are observed and/or measured. 

I’ve seen people interpret Sigma as having multiple personalities and I don’t agree that that’s the case (I also think it’s ableist with regards to actual people who have DID.) Sigma doesn’t have multiple personalities. Sigma has Schrödinger’s consciousness. He has one consciousness existing in multiple states until he interacts with his environment. He is the scientist still trying to harness the harness, he is the near-catatonic traumatized man wondering what went wrong when he did all of his math right, he is the living weapon, and the conductor of the music of the universe all at once—until you talk to him. Then the multiple states collapse into one.
