1735 Shipwreck Wine For Sale
Salvaged wine bottles from a shipwreck will be sold by Veiling Sylvies auction house on May 3rd 2013. The Belgian house offers six bottles of this 18th century rare wine that was onboard the ill-fated Vliegenthart. The wine bottles are expected to be sold in pairs, a lot being worth from $2,500 to $5,500.
What's inside?
Wine probably! The original wine is thought to be of German origin from Mosel Valley which was supposed to be exported to modern-day Indonesia. “We think that the wine had been reduced by evaporating some of the liquid. The moment the bottles arrived at their final destination – the high ranking gentleman in Batavia, or nowadays Jakarta - would have added water to get the ‘original’ product back,”
