Cape Verde White Wine
The “Chã” label wines, made by the Associação (with help from the Italian NGO Cospe and the EU), are full-bodied and rich in color and extract. All of the grapes used in the wines are locally-grown by farmers inside the caldera, which has a 120 year wine-making tradition. In 2006, the Associação produced 40,000 cases of wine (12 bottles each) from 100,000 kg of grapes. Chã's best-known wine, however, is called Manecom, a traditional, semi-sweet or -dry, house-made wine. (It should not be confused with the “Chã” label red, white, rosé, and passito wines.) Most households make Manecom for commercial production and personal consumption. The wine can either be a red or white, dry or sweet, but the sweet red variety is by far the most popular (Culled from Wikipedia).

Tunisia Red Wine
WT enjoyed this vintage from Tunisia. Tanin a tad strong almost to point of leathery but still soft on the palate. Beautifully enjoyed with Ethiopian Njera and tibs and friends :)

Morocco Gris Wine Quite a refreshing wine ...perfect for hot weather of Dakar when chilled. A bit dry and tart on the taste buds. Taste dissolves after a little while. Flowery and perfumery aroma. Lovely with grilled fish and Botswanan dumplings ...

Tanzania Red Wine
Tanazania's Dodoma region produces three wines -- dry white, red and sweet. The Dodoma brand is produced by Tanzania Distilleries, which is now part of the SAB Miller family. WT got this bottle as a gift from a friend who was in Zanzibar.
The pleasure of drinking it was done with a local New York mixologist of South Sudan origins. The Dodoma Dry Red is definitely a blend but the grapes were not listed. However WT suspects the blend has a major content of Makutupora, a local dry red grape in the region. WT and the mixologist were in agreement that the wine was a tad too dry (despite being labeled Dry wine). Tannins were soft on the palate and the wine was semi-smooth overall.
It is marketed as being "excellent with grilled meat "Nyama Choma" and matured cheese. Unfortunately WT had neither at hand. However, it was a good enough wine for the bottle to be emptied under an hour between us.
Iceland Birch Liqueur
First, dispel a myth: wine doesn’t get better with time. Well, at least not all wines. “It largely depends on the kind of vineyard and grapes that you grow,” says Emma Nderitu, Leleshwa Wine’s Winery Manager.
WT Update: Christine Kasimu is no longer with Morendat Farm in Naivasha. An interesting article all the same.
