About Donations
I’m not entirely sure when this happened, but somewhere along the way my tumblr has been primarily for reblogging donation posts. That’s at least 70% of my posts. That being said, there’s a couple things I think people should know.
1: Tumblr is NOT the best place to ask for donations. Posts don’t have a timestamp and often they just float around, getting reblogged without end. Most of this is because other users don’t have enough spare change to make a difference but still want to help by spreading the word.
There are, however, places on Reddit where you can link your PayPal or GoFundMe. People with money to spare actually go through these subreddits looking for people to help out. This link is about 7 years old but still mostly accurate:Â https://www.reddit.com/r/Assistance/comments/1hexgp/other_subreddits_that_can_help_you/Â Â Whether you can help or need help, take a look!
2: A trend I’ve noticed is that fundraisers on GoFundMe often go past the goal, which is great and all and makes for a nice heartwarming story about how strangers pitched in to help someone beyond what they could have hoped for and the extras go towards a charity or secondary goal of theirs.
Don’t do this. If a post is at or beyond the goal, click away and find someone else who doesn’t yet have the money they need. I don’t know why GoFundMe doesn’t automatically stop the post once the goal has been reached.
3: If you are in need of assistance and don’t feel like you can make a post or GoFundMe (for example, you don’t want your family finding out because they’re the problem) then... it is okay to ask me! If you can privately reach out to me, I can create a post on Reddit, Tumblr or possibly GoFundMe (or ask a friend so I don’t break rules regarding frequency). You can PM me here, or email me ([email protected]) or message me on Discord (WingyTheGhost#3960) and I’ll do what I can.Â
If this is the situation, you should also create a separate bank account or keep it in PayPal. Ally Bank does not have an account minimum and is free and easy to set up, and is a good bank in general! Please don’t hesitate to help yourself!
