The problem is that it's a no-win. If Sarah McBride makes this An Issue and fights, then she's giving the GOP another opportunity to campaign on "Democratic wokeness gone amok - and in the Halls of Congress!!!!!!!" and also really double-down and ramp up the offense and harassment. And also not make any impact and spend more time on this than on legislating.
If she goes the route she's going, she gets criticized for weakness and also has to put up with an incredibly and horribly toxic and hostile (possibly violent) environment politically and personally, and still empowers the haters and bigots.
My hope/inclination is to think that the Dem Caucus can come up with a way to help resolve this or deal with this and that they don't back away from her or only offer perfunctory support.
Also, unlike leftists, McBride is probably playing the long game.
She's the first trans member of Congress. She probably knew this would be coming. She knew that, as the first, she might get hate that no one else would.
But she also probably recognizes the following: 1) she's in a safe blue seat that she could feasibly hold for the rest of her life if she wants it, 2) Dems will eventually hold the majority in the House again, very likely in just two years, and reverse this policy, and 3) whether you like it or not, the arc of the universe will bend towards justice.
"Separate but equal" bathrooms for Black people and white people were still a thing within living memory. Heck, same sex marriage was a far-off dream 20 years ago, because it was about that long ago that gay sex was still illegal. With queer identities rising among young people, I have to have faith that it's only a matter of time (and a lot of effort in the meanwhile) before this becomes a non-issue.
She's choosing not to fight this battle because she will win the war.
Just like we tell people that it's okay if they come out on their terms, that they don't have to do anything that makes them uncomfortable, we have to let McBride make her own decisions about her safety and comfort.
Otherwise, we're the ones telling her where to pee.
And I'm also going to say, apart from the rabid MAGA base, I think there's potential for this shit from Nancy Mace and the House GOP to backfire with the median American. You certainly had idiots who apparently believed schools were doing sex change operations on children, but Americans lean toward libertarian sensibilities, and you're going to have a harder time convincing them that picking on an adult trans person is anything but bullying and a waste of time in Congress.
It is absolutely to McBride's benefit to not flame this "culture war", but to present herself as an otherwise normal adult woman who is being mercilessly bullied by her Republican coworkers. And those of us with Democratic Representatives should be calling/writing them telling them to defend her.
I don’t think people get how dangerous this is for Sarah McBride? Like I’m not trying to catastrophize, these people are terrorists. Their favorite thing to do is to threaten people with doxxing or guns or their rabid wolverine supporters.
Even if she has security in DC, I guarantee that her family/friends in DE don’t, and I also guarantee their names, addresses, and jobs are already on the multiple websites specifically created to stalk and harass trans people. And all it would take is one of her esteemed colleagues tweeting that info out on the website used by millions that is owned by a Nazi who specifically has an axe to grind with trans people. I guarantee she’s already getting death threats in the triple digits every day.
I think her response is good politics, but more to the point it’s an attempt to prevent things from escalating to the point where she or someone she cares about might get killed. Getting angry and lashing out is a privilege that she just doesn’t have. It’s not fair. None of this is fair. But yelling at her for being insufficiently leftist when she is literally trying not to get killed is ghoulish and if you’re doing that I genuinely worry about your capacity to feel empathy.
I have no fucking patience for anyone “leftist” who criticizes Democrats without first going ten times harder at Republicans, and this is why: if you don’t acknowledge what Republicans do with power, then you are fundamentally unserious & often outright evil in analyzing people who are actually fighting and surviving Republicans in power.
Anyone who didn’t fight like hell to keep Republicans out of power needs to shut the fuck about Sarah McBride. She’s in an impossible bind & she’s doing the best she can. The best way to help her, and every trans person in this country, was simply to keep Republicans out of power!
If you didn’t fight to keep Republicans out of power, if you felt that there was anything more important than keeping Republicans out of power, you do not get to scream and whine that other people aren’t fighting their abuses in impossibly perfect ways.
And you certainly don’t get to criticize someone who now has to fight them while completely hobbled, and a giant target painted on her back.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
This makes no sense
it literally could not be more straightforward
It literally doesnt make sence, both have the same value, they're both $30
I think the failure of many people to grasp an incredibly simple, barebones metaphor is demonstrating implicit bias very well
This dude straight up stated the fucking answer and still can’t understand it, because he’s expecting the answer to be his own views lmao
No im not expecting anything its just a badly frammed metaphor
Bro you said the answer. Both have the same value despite different sizes. It’s simple. Basic. Elementary.
But it never says that, it just asks you wich one is greater and the text ends there, wich leads you to thinking that one indeed has greater value then the other, and that the one with the greater value is the answear
It asks you which one has the greater value and what is the answer to that question?
Im not about to argue over a focken tit size metaphor
Never underestimate the lack of reading comprehension on this site lmfao
gen z making antisemitism cool again but being lauded as the most progressive generation ever sure is wild
Not anymore thanks to the amounts of Gen Z males who voted Trump.
Young voters were supposed to “lead the evolution of our nation.” Yeah, about that …
The writing was all over the wall though, especially with the rise of so many sex negative puriteens who wanted to literally bring back the Hays Code and the regressive aspiring "gold diggers".
i predicted gen z would be conservative generation, i thought that wouldnt happen until 20 years from now
also shoehorning in how gullible gen z are when it comes to tiktok. like simply bcuz of an aesthetic, gen z will easily eat it up. if u can rebrand fascism into a cutesy aesthetic gen z would unironically support it
We're headed home at least
This is so embarrassing
Is this him getting upset because everyone is calling him Trump's First Lady?
Idk which would get under Trump's skin faster: calling Elon his First Lady or calling the next four years the Musk Administration
maybe we keep up trump being elon’s bitch and he eventually drops him
I think we need to start up a massive disinformation campaign saying the South African is teaming up with Vance to take Trump down with the 25th Amendment, and see if Trump deports him.
there's no greater betrayal than finally starting to read a book you've had sitting for months on your shelf or your desk or your nightstand and then finding out it's bad. like. i gave you a fucking home.
I had to do this guys
Hey y’all! Did you know? That uhhhhhh…. People telling you the consequences of an election is not them “fantasizing about bad things happening to minorities.”!
We're just keeping it real. Like, not gonna sugar coat it for you, sibs, shit's gonna get real bad. Trump told y'all everything he's gonna do. They literally had a playbook that was public to read. They said out loud every single nasty thing they were gonna do, and MAGA/third party/nonvoters said they were cool with it.
That's why we're not gonna rescue y'all this time.
Breaking news:
New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, and California state AG’s are already stating they will REFUSE any Trump effort to do mass deportations, attacks on reproductive rights, or attacks on LGBTQ+ rights.
These states will not allow him to enact any harmful legislation without a fight. Other blue run states are expected to join them.

"in the cracks of light" referring to the "cracks" in her self proclaimed "daylight" makes a lot of sense to me and it's making me sick with grief again she treated that man so fucking horribly for three years and he stayed through all of it
Bro I've been critical of the Pro-Palestine movement all year long, but I know that it did not have a real impact on the election. It would be so easy for me to blame them, but I'm not, because I'm not a liar. But for them to say "akshewally this is Dems' fault because they didn't court the movement that refused to vote for them and [repeats lies about Biden-Harris not calling for a ceasefire]" is just cope. It's cope because they want to feel more important than they actually are, they don't want to admit that American voters do not care about Israel, and it's because the whole fucking movement is detached from reality. Even now, even as someone who will be so much worse for Palestine is becoming president (again), they just can't stop lying about Democrats and the autonomy of Israel and Hamas.
And these are the people outraged that Democrats are moving away from the left. Yeah, this is why. Democrats learned to ignore the unwinnable voters whose rhetoric just repels normies who actually vote. You can't spit in Dems' faces for 8 years and refuse to work with them and then get mad when they stopped listening to you. And this is simply not the reason why Harris lost. It's not. There's zero incentive for Democrats to listen to these people. In fact, it's the opposite.
Arabs and their Free Palestine white friends who voted for Trump should just own it now. Black people in Michigan aren't going to forget what Dearborn just did. So if they run into problems in the future, they get to go to the GOP. They joined the Republican coalition willingly. They are literally not our problem now.
Where's that post from years ago that was like "I predict that Gen Z is gonna have a cult problem" cuz uhh they just voted for Trump and I fear OP was spot on
one of the saddest things from this election is that I think it probably permanently damaged the leftwing coalition among people of color. obvs full final counts aren’t tabulated yet but on the whole, black voters didn’t budge; >90% of black women voted for Harris, and while Trump made some gains with black men in some states, they didn’t shift too much (and I think in Michigan, >90% of black men went for Harris).
they did not waver, and they got shanked. they know they got shanked. and other subgroups of POC don’t even seem to be aware that this reckoning is already underway. there’s this overall aggrieved sense of like, “well I chose what I chose because it was right for ME, and you can’t blame me,” which is fine to shout at some corporate political consultant but is absolutely not going to work on some random fellow American. and it is REALLY not going to work on politically engaged black voters.
(this is pretty much the same logic we apply towards white Trump voters, guys, and it cuts both ways: people who are directly endangered because of your actions do not have to coddle you while expressing rage and fear for their own lives. yes, some white people in particular have really crossed lines, but a lot of folks are simply being blunt in a way that’s angering people because it’s too honest. for example, college-educated white women broke for Harris by like 20 points, and they are still going to die from ectopic pregnancies & bleed out in parking lots because all men including men of color threw women’s rights to the wolves. those women do not have to make niceys about this.)
anyway. moderate black voters (especially southern black voters) are the backbone of the Democratic party, they’ve been very loyal to the rest of the coalition, they’ve allowed themselves to be pushed leftward on policies that don’t even benefit them, etc, and they’ve eaten shit for it. it’s one thing to be disappointed by white people, another to be let down by other ppl of color whom you were allegedly in solidarity with.
as a non-black person of color who absolutely relies on solidarity with black voters, I uhhhhh. well. I really can’t blame them if they are permanently unimpressed with me (we don’t have clear data yet bcs small population, but I expect that final analyses will show that desis also shifted rightward with everyone else). and if, for example, black voters decide that they’re not interested in sticking their necks out for issues like immigration policy (primarily beneficial to nonblack POC; massive liability with the rest of the country, etc) in the future, I absolutely can’t blame them.
I don’t want this, it will suck immensely because we all need allies, but honestly I just can’t blame them for being fucking furious with the rest of us & fundamentally questioning solidarity from “people of color”
I don’t really have any answers for this, just sad about it.
like. goddamn. I am not screenshotting because some comments are very mean & angry due to the high fear right now… but some of this is so mean that I think solidarity is COMPLETELY broken. black voters are holding a grudge that the rest of us will really struggle to recover from. and again, I really don’t blame them.
