Honey in the Wastelands
Winnie was having a bit of a day today. Certain memories were recalling certain mistakes from back then. All those thoughts were out away with indulging in oozing crimson flesh; and her favorite honey dipped brains. Winnie wasn’t all Hannibal .. yet. So she did enjoy remaining whatever social life she still had. Winnie loved exploring, her fascination with bees and all the treasures of their labor. Winnie enjoyed her small beehive project towards a lovely tree in the the wastelands. It was close to the corners of town but with closed doors Winnie just wondered about that place, but Preferred to stay alone.
Winnie had her yellow sundress, and red sneakers as she enjoyed the sun beaming on her rather cold flesh. Winnie wasn’t very hungry; she could always go for a snack. Her curls bounced around as she hummed and waters local flowers. “ These are for you to enjoy from” she replied sweetly to the bees as if they understood each other’s roles. Winnie enjoyed the small garden she had made within the course of time after the curse. It was a small start but beautiful little flowers that spurred up from the soil; like her small glimmer of hope for her humanity.
At the crack of a branch Winnie turned around to see she wasn’t alone, and found someone who had come across her little garden “ please don’t swat them away! They’re just protective and curious!” She alarmed the visitor as the bees buzzed around.
“I guess you could call me a type of G.I. Joe, sure.” He chuckled, still standing just a couple feet away from her. He had no intention of being rude to her, but at the end of the day, she was a zombie, and he had to keep his ground. On top of that, Max had only left with a small gun because on the off chance he did run into Pascal, he did not want to scare him. That was the problem with Max; he sometimes didn’t think too clearly when he had his mind distracted by someone he cared about, and he knew that would be his downfall. “And I have a reason to be out here; it just happens that I got sidetracked.” He paused for a second, clearing his throat, “Do you know someone named Pascal?” He figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask, maybe she did know his lost zombie friend and point him the right direction.
He watched her move to the little kitchen, listening to her explanation, and he couldn’t help but be a little surprised that a zombie could taste anything other than brains. “Huh. That’s interesting.” He responded, “I didn’t know you could taste honey.” He admitted, before curiously asking, “Can all of you taste honey?” He hadn’t realized how rude he sounded, but even if the guy had, he probably still wouldn’t have cared to change his tone. She wasn’t Pascal, after all. “I don’t know if I should take it from you, you seem to have a sort of routine going on with your friends. I would hate to be the reason someone missed out on a little bit of their happiness.” He offered a small smile, attempting to be as polite as possible. His heart picked up in pace a little, and he thought that maybe he should just leave Winnie to her bees and continue his search for Pascal because he just had a weird gut feeling
Winnie registered the name, but honestly it didn’t ring a bell. “ Well, I might not know him by name... maybe by face. Depends on how dismembered he might be from now.. Some zombies going bonies end up losing arms, face rots a bit quicker than most so it depends. “ she added casually. Winnie was all about shedding light n all things Zombies. They were all a bit misguided and shunned by people who didn’t understand them and just feared them; at least that was what Winnie recollected from almost all of her awkward human encounters.
“ I know we might all look like killers, but yes we still have our taste buds, it just doesn’t feel as filling as eating...” she paused, looking at him awkwardly “ Flesh” she said, almost cringing at saying it to a human. “You can take some, I have plenty of honey from the girls” she added with a smile as she nodded towards the beyhives she built from wood and other objects around the Wastelands.
“ A token to remind you we don’t all want to eat you or your brains” she added, not worried if it sounded a bit rude or crass in humor. It was true, the sweeter the person was, the yummier their flesh tasted. Max didn’t seem like the sweet kind, so it wasn’t something she craved for.. not yet at least.

Jack’s small smile grew at her invitation to lunch, not having realized he was hungry until the very moment she mentioned lunch. “I would like that very much, thank you.” He responded, glancing curiously at her little box. The slight feeling of nervousness hit for a split second before it faded away again, but he was glad he felt it at all, “If you don’t another question, what type of brains are those?” He asked, hoping he was not coming off as rude. Jack had enjoyed a great many brains in his time as a zombie, but when he stumbled upon Zero, the guy knew something had to change, so he had taken on a sort of zombie vegetarian diet if you will. He didn’t particularly enjoy eating only animal brains, they didn’t have the same effect or memories the way human ones did, but he tried his hardest to stick to it because he knew Zero needed it. However, he would be lying if he wasn’t secretly hoping Winnie would tell him they were human; it had been quite some time since he had been able to taste one.
“It certainly does look quite delicious.” He complimented, admiring how the sun sparkled off the surface of the honey; it looked like a bunch of little diamonds sparkling within the golden treat. When she offered some honey for him to take home, Jack couldn’t help the smile that graced his lips, because now he had something more to share with Zero when he next saw him. “I would love to take a little back with me if you don’t mind. I think my friend, Zero, would enjoy this new snack you have created, and your honey also looks too good to pass up.” He softly chuckled and made his way over to where she was setting up the two plates for their unexpected lunch date. “This is very nice of you, Winnie. Thank you. You’ll have to let me find a way to repay your kindness.”
Winnie nodded at his question and took a deep breath before casually replying “ They’re human brains.. I mixed them with some deer brains just to dilute the quality, and like that it almost seasons the animal brains since you know they’re... eh” she said sticking her tongue out as if that described the bland taste of the brains. Winnie smiled back at him unapologetically. “ I prefer all humans, as bad as it sounds, but I try to be... civilized” she added with a sweet smile. “ It’s all fun and games until someone gets nibbled on” she added with a nervous chuckle. This was the early onset of Winnie’s tragic foot - in- mouth syndrome, where she said some weird things.
As Winnie took the seat next to Jack she smiled bigger now, almost from ear to ear. “ Of course! I’d love to have you and your pals over for a tea party! I can bake some Kidney scones” she added with a giggle. “ I love baking, the humans would be twirling in their beds if they’d see us now” she added with a small chuckle. Winnie also laughed when she got bit nervous, after her foot being in so mouth for such a dense amount of time, “ You’re always more than welcome, Jack. I don’t have many friends... so your friendship is everything to me” she added with an honest smile. Winnie placed her hands on the table, cupping her hands in front of her. Maybe this was from someone’s recollected memory but she bowed her head down for a small grace. “ It’s nice to say Grace before we eat.... I think I ate that somewhere” she added looking up at him, before joining Jack in bowing her head. “ Thank you Deathly father for the brains and rotten brains we will eat. May it lift us and bring more life to our already dead souls, “ she added with a smile before picking up her fork and digging into her brains.
Honey in the Wastelands
“Oh, well, hello to them as well.” He chuckled in response, cautiously making his way through the buzzing bees. Regardless of how friendly they may have been trying to be, Max was still not the biggest fan of bees. It could have been due to the fact that a bee stung him as a child on the nose and it caused it swell up so much he was called “Bozo Max” for a short time, and he thinks he always held a grudge against them because of it. “Sort of. I was actually on my way to search for another friend, but Rapunzel enjoys breaking the rules from time to time and it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to catch her doing it.” He smiled, “But, I’m glad it was you instead of her. I do enjoy making new acquaintances.” He stepped a little closer to the girl, “Nice to meet you, Winnie. I’m Max.” He reached out to offer his hand, but then got distracted by the honeycombs and ended up keeping it by his side instead.
“I guess you can say that I’m not like many people, and it helps that I have a license to defend myself and those that need it.” He chuckled, still stepping closer to the girl. The closer he got, the more her features began to register to him, and he slowly realized that the girl before him as cute as she well dressed was, a walking zombie. Well, shit. He could feel heart begin to pick its pace up a bit at the realization, though his exterior remained calm and unbothered by it. “So, Winnie, tell me.” He paused in his steps, watching her with curiosity now, “What do you plan on doing with that honey?” He had to admit that although the girl was one of the undead, like Pascal, she had managed to peak his curiosity enough for him to want to linger,
He was definitely human; the heart beat as it quickened, its veins pulsing with the delicious crimson red blood that flowed throughout his body. It was enough to make Winnie gulp past her Pooh bear instincts. He smelled delicious... to even think. Winnie’s reaction was still unphased. She’s seen that her looks would make many skittish; Max stayed. It piqued her interest why he was so... chilvarous and willing to listen to her. “ Well that’s good, what are you? like one of those GI joe dolls that come out here with no reason?” she asked laughing, referring to some of the Hunters that would roam the wastelands with other motives. Hunters scared her, they shouldn’t be trusted. They reminded her so much of her father, that the thought of a mention of him would just.. make her blank out.
She was brought back into the present with his question. She smiled “ Well, I pack some of them up, make them little cubes so they’re like hard candies and pass them out to some of my friends out here” she added nonchalantly as she brought the trays towards the small little kitcheen like set she had. She had Eeyore help her set up the run down appliances. An over and fridge, perfect for her to harvest her honey. “ You can take some if you want... ot try them out. They’re just like the candies I grew up loving” she added with a smile. Winne chose to leave out the part where they go good with brains, in case the events turned for the worse. Truth is there were some chef recipes best left unsaid.
Honey in the Wastelands
“Is that so?” He asked, delighted with the small news, “I’ll have to try it on my pumpkins tomorrow morning. Of course, I’ll have to think about a song first.” He softly chuckled, walking over to the spot where the girl stood, “I’m Jack. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Winnie.” He greeted in return, extending his hand and shaking hers. It was interesting to him that her hand felt soft, yet his hand was a bit rough, he made a mental note about to tell Sally about this small detail next time they spoke.
“I like the name you chose for your little haven; it fits it perfectly.” He complimented, looking around her little piece of heaven in the wastelands. He thought about how his small patch would make an excellent addition to it; he made a mental note to drop a pumpkin off for Winnie at a later date. Lately, it had appeared that Jack had found some excitement in his life, and he was enjoying every moment of it. “You know, I never thought about honey or vanilla with my brains. I think I’ll have to try it, especially the honey; it sounds delicious.” He grinned, looking at her now. “I’m not intruding, am I? I’m sorry I just seemed to have made myself at home, and I didn’t even ask permission. Would you mind the company?”
“ I’m not sure if they’re songs I’ve heard from movies but, anything works. That why when I hum I just hear the beat instead of adding words.. then it’s like an american idol round” she teased before a small giggle. “ Oh no, not at all I don’t get many visitors..” she said trailing off feeling the redness in her cheeks flush, as if she’d really have a pulse; it was more embarrassment than anything. She looked up, eyes twinkling with delight at the thought of some company other than the bees or wandering bonies. “ That sounds awesome Jack! I was just going to make some lunch.. not sure if you’d like to try my favorite snacks” she said with a small smile. Winnie didn’t live too far from her woods, but she would bring some pre sliced brains in her little yellow box. It had been tainted from the blood and juices from most brains, but it was her lunchbox; you could say.
“ You’re always more than welcome to come by, whats mine is yours” she said with a small giggle as she brought over her snacks. She brought a small jar filled with honey. “ This is the fresh honey my friends made” she said as she grabbed one of her wooden spoons, mixing up the liquid gold just a bit. it oozed as the sun hit it, like her small golden treasure. Winnie felt the dark urges from inside just ripping out at her exterior, the beast wanting to devour all and not even share. But Winnie was trying, she remained perfectly quiet as she hummed a bit, a joyous tune to drown out the hungry little bear from within. “ There’s enough honey for you to even take with you Jack” she said with a smile, as she set up two plates for them.

Her love was as sticky to the bees as honey.
Honey in the Wastelands
There weren’t many days that Max could claim as his own, usually being on Hera time, but today was one of the rare ones that he could. He decided to take advantage of the free time he had by making his way into the Wastelands and trying to find Pascal. He had decided that if he were to find his lost friend he was going to have to have some words for him for worrying him so much. So, after his first cup of coffee, he made his way out to the wastelands without much thought of anything else.
He hadn’t made it very far from the city when the sound of humming caught his attention, and he couldn’t help but to follow it. All he could think as the humming got louder was, was this Rapunzel? The tune of the humming sounded like something she would hum but he also hoped it wasn’t her because then he would have to give her a talking to about being out in the wastelands by herself, no matter how close she kept herself to the wall. “Rapunzel?” He called out, trying to shoo some bees out of his view, but instead of stumping upon his little ray of sunshine, he ended up stumbling upon another blonde. “Oh, sorry about that. I’m not an expert on bee’s so I just assumed they were trying to attack me.” He apologized, lowering his hands, not yet noticing anything off about the girl before him.
Winnie looked hot at the stranger and smiled, waving at him and dismissing the ruckus she almost formed. “It’s okay! They’re just trying to say hello. When you hear an intense and rising pitch buzz that’s when you should be worried” she added nonchalantly as she strained some honey combs while the stranger watched. Winnie had her mittens on as she handled the trays of honey. It was the start of her weekend, so she always left everything impeccable... before the desire to feast would slip in. “ Have you lost your friend?” she added with a tilt of her head. Winnie didn’t have much friends but she was always more willing and able to help find lost things or people for that matter. “ Rapunzel? was her name” she added with a small chuckle as she set the trays down to cool off. “ I’m Winnie, if you’d like I can help you look for her “ she added with a positive smile.
“ Not many people come out here, and it’s a bit dangerous after sunset out here” she added now as she removed her mittens, placing them gently to the side of the trays. Winnie smiled up at him, and waved in hello from a distance. Winnie also learned that boundaries and things like space were really sacred for humans and zombies. She smelled the flesh of his skin, her heart would beat at the rhytm of his, perhaps a bit stronger right now. The hungry little bear inside her growling at the sound of a living snack. Her better judgement drowning out those voices in her head with the buzz of the bees, hopefully the honey she had as a snack would suffice enough to make a new friend.
Honey in the Wastelands
When the sun peeked over the horizon today, and he had finished his daily pumpkin care routine, Jack had begun to think about the last time he had seen his good friend Zero. It occurred to him that it had been quite some time since the two had spent time together, so he decided to set off into the wastelands in an attempt to find his friend. First, however, Jack decided to leave his daily note to Sally at their secret spot, which was not too far from the city. Apart from caring for his pumpkins, leaving these notes to her was something he looked forward to very much.
The Wastelands always intrigued Jack’s peculiar mind, because they were never the same wastelands no matter how many times he passed the same tree or rock on his way to and from his little hut in the woods, everything changed so quickly nowadays. He leisurely strolled towards the corners of the town, searching around for both any possible signs of Zero and a brain to snack on. Was he hungry? He wasn’t entirely sure, even the rare times he could feel things that question was always one he couldn’t answer. He didn’t know what the difference between hunger and urges was anymore.
The sound of a soft hum filled his ear, and it seemed to get louder the closer he got to the corners of the town. Being the curious guy he was, Jack couldn’t help but follow to where the humming had been coming from and in the process accidentally stumbled upon Winnie and her honeybees. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause a fuss.” He apologetically responded, tucking his hands in his pockets so she could see he meant no harm. “You were humming a rather sweet-sounding song; I was unable to stop myself from following it and by the looks of it..I’m glad I did.” He admitted, offering a small smile.
.
Winnie smoked back at the stranger “well that’s awfully sweet of you to say! Someone once told me that if you sing to your plants it helps them grow” she added brightly. “ or I think I ate it from someone’s brain…” she said now a bit softer with a nervous chuckle realizing how daft her social skills were. Bad to the bonie. Literally. Winnie felt her cheeks flush as red as her sneakers, she set her watering can down back in its place. “ I’m Winnie” she added with a smile, extending her hand out for the stranger “it’s really nice to meet you” she added with a sweet shake of their hands.
“Seems like you’ve stumbled into my little haven! I call it the 100 acre woods! It’s not really on the map but well.. it’s my little space. If you ever want some fresh honey I use it on everything “ she added with an eager nod, her curls bouncing as wildly as her hands followed her movements. “ even on brains that’s just my personal preference! I hear some of the guys like it with vanilla to sweeten them” she added as well, offering an alternative if her option of a snack was too odd. Winnie chuckled as she nervously rubbed the back of her neck. She spoke in riddles and twisted herself up in her own mind sometimes.
