Genuinely a bigger achievement to have sent into and returned a living being from space, than to have sent one on a trip inside of an orbital coffin.

my favorites rn
i cant stop fucking crying over this bro im genuinely SO happy and SO proud we were able to make such a HUGE jump from this
i saw a few people word it PERFECTLY
tiktok user @/hellocameo (sorry didnt mean to mention) posted:
"'The Artemis II crew returned exactly where they were supposed to' Of course they did — Felicette guided them home. When was the last time a cat missed a landing?"
to which one of the commenters (@caitlyn2269) replied "Laika helped them jump, Felicette made sure they landed on their feet"
and another commenter (@i_like_el_sharks) said "cats land safely on all fours, she made sure all four crew members landed safely"
im genuinely such a huge space lover and have been since i was a child, seeing us make such huge progress genuinely makes me so happy and i physically cannot process it all 🥹🥹
heres a photo a friend of mine took of the launch down in Orlando, FL
it's not the best, but it's something i'll hold onto in my camera roll forever for certain
so we all know about the patron saint of one-way trips
but how about:
the patron saints of last messages and quiet goodbyes
the patron saint of overstaying your welcome
the patron saint of being small, afraid, and doing it anyway
the patron saint of first steps you can never take back
the patron saint of flying for the ones who couldn't
the patron saints of asking "are we alone?" and only hearing your echo
(Close ups of Laika and Convict under more)
The Patron Saints of One Way Trips! Gonna turn em into personal keychains, let me know if any of yall would be interested in this as well! :D
I like to imagine, one day, the truth comes out. That humanity’s savior, the one who braved the stars alone, morning the death of his friends while trying to save his entire planet, didn’t go willingly.
That he was forced to go by the woman who did everything she had to do to save them.
Several former students of the Ryland Grace Memorial Middle School raise some money(not hard, their beloved teacher inspired them so much, this was the least they could do) and added a small dog, dressed in a little space suit, head tilted towards the stars humanity would condemn her to, and an even smaller inscription. “Ryland Grace, may the stars forever light your path, the way you lit others.”
It sparked a worldwide movement, catching the eye of Pope Leo, who had helped bless the rocket leading the crew of three to their death, and made a decision.
Saint Grace was canonized, along with his companion, as the patron saint of one way trips. A statue was commissioned of St. Grace holding Laika, both looking up at their grave. On the plaque at the bottom, it reads “Saint Ryland Grace and his spiritual companion, Laika. The one who leads those who bravely go where no one has gone before, even if it costs them their life. May their souls walk with you and guide you to safety.”

Seeing all the Laika posts after Project Hail Mary and the Artemis II mission got me in the feels.
Do you think the scientists who sent her to space could’ve predicted that, decades later, people would still be mourning her?
Do you think the scientists who snuck her treats when they weren’t supposed to and took her home and genuinely cared about her know that millions of people grieve her to this day?
Even MORE Laika and Rocky drawings [: these two are consuming me for some reason
perhaps a grace and laika doodle,, or simon and felicette maybe
Therapy Animals
made Grace look a little more disconnected then I meant to, but I think it still works
Space Gang 🚀✨🌌
Just a few of the animals sent to space during the years.
Some of them returned, some others didn't.
Laika is certainly the most famous, but every one of them has a story.
I hope that with this artwork, I have encouraged someone to learn about these souls, even those who are not remembered.
( Laika, Félicette and Ham are in the center not because they returned alive, but because they are the most known)
Nature, I guess
Why doesn't anybody else want that?
“how long has it been?”
please get home safely, Artemis II
i love you
