Day 1: Heartbeat

Thump, thump, thump.

Lucien set down his quill, ink smeared on his thumb. He uncurled his back and turned around, seeking out the sound. He placed a hand upon his sternum, trying to decipher if it was his own heart.

Thump, thump, thump.

He stood, walking around his Velaris apartment to test where the sound was loudest. He ended up at his front door, the heartbeat pounded from behind the wood, like an insistent knock.

Thump, thump, thump.

He turned the knob, the hinges creaking as he revealed her, soaking wet and with a request glimmering in her brown eyes.

I've been reading the Rites of Starling and thinking to myself that this book is very mid for a finale. Well guess what, it's mid because it's the MIDdle book. 😂 Last book releasing next year.

The short chapters with pov switches are very irritating. I cannot remember what's happening in either pov.

This is the best book I've read this year. The audiobook is phenomenal.

Hands down. Amazing . What were those last few chapters HELLOO?!

10/10 for the plot twist in the final chapters

100/ 10 for the monsterous monsters that actually act like monsters.

I found my official least favorite line in the ACOTAR series. 🤮

First of all - who picked out the clothes? Ianthe used to but at this point I don't think Feyanthe are on speaking terms, so Feyre must have picked it out. To appear harmless, I get, since she's undercover here and doesn't want to attract attention. But what's the deal with the second part?

Tamlin doesn't even attempt to seduce her until she gives him cues later on. And then backs off once she turns him away with her whole Lucien nightmare comforting scheme. In no way is he trying to treat her the way she suggests, nor has he ever.

From a meta perspective, I hate that the fact that she thinks being dressed feminine and wearing pink means she's portraying herself as a sex object (but only for the High Lords, she's a high class courtesan) without a will of her own who just exists to be submissive and used. Also what does this say about how she thinks about her sisters, who do dress feminine, especially Elain?

But if there is a High Lord who does want to "mount" Feyre whenever and wherever he wishes and in front of whomever, there is another one.
