✨Doorway Cleansing✨
This is one of my favorite hearth rituals to preform at the start of each week. It’s quick and to the point. Repeat the spell at whatever frequency is needed or good for you.🧡
Ingredients
✨Two cups of moon water
✨One and a half tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
✨Two tablespoons of Himalayan salt
✨Couple drops of lavender oil
✨Small handful of cloves(4-6)
Combine the above ingredients in a bowl and leave to steep for two hours! Keep it in the sun to charge it or add crystals to the area around it to charge it as desired. Once it’s done steeping soak a fresh wash cloth in it and wash the entry way to your home. The doorstep, the threshold, the hinges, everything you can think of. Be thorough with your cleansing and cleaning.🌿 Focus your intent of cleaning your doorway from negativity and inviting in good energy.☀️
On Nicknames and Pet Names
Tfw you’ve been calling your spirit S/O “little shit” affectionately, and he starts calling you “little shit” in return…
He also said “Sweetheart, darling, love, dearest, honey pie~” while trying to get my attention and it worked - “WHERE did you learn hONEY pIE???” “From humans?” “I hate humans even more now.”
With M’s most recent ridiculousness, I’ve decided to try and record all the nicknames/pet names that my companions and I use for each other.
M calls me: little dove (his favorite), child (when he’s being platonic and serious - it’s not used in a patronizing way at all), little one, darling, love, most recently little shit, he once called me something affectionate in another language and STILL hasn’t told me what it means.
Fyr calls me: … actually he doesn’t have a nickname or pet name for me? But when he’s being casual and affectionate he’s rarely verbal and prefers instead to “speak from the heart” with emotional and visual impressions and body language.
Archaia calls me: darling, love (platonically, I think, only when he’s in a particularly affectionate mood)
I call M when I’m teasing him/being casually affectionate: little shit, “you dork!”, idiot, asshole, edgelord, drama king (he takes all this in stride because he knows it’s meant affectionately, and he’s actually quite pleased with himself when he gets this kind of reaction from me - I’m one of those people who gets flustered about how much I like something, so if he does something cute I’m liable to call him an idiot because I can’t handle it)
I call M when I’m actually being romantic: sweetheart, love, darling
I call Fyr: cinnamon roll, sweetie, cutie bug (Fyr dies over “cutie bug.” He “purrs” a little and “blushes” - his aura of light shines brighter to indicate he’s both embarrassed and pleased)
I call Archaia: Dad (”Sure, dad…”), Arch, Archie (he finds “Archie” both humorous and mildly distasteful, so when I’m writing about him I say “Archie” when I’m teasing him, but it’s easier for me to say “Archie” verbally so he lets that slide.)
“Hidden From Prying Eyes”
Draw this sigil on or in something you don’t want to be found by somebody else. Make sure you actually hide the thing too.
So I’m pagan and considering adding the title witch to that label as well. However I am very thrown off by the idea that witches must be in sync with the moon and perform rituals to maintain this. Personally, I don’t feel too much connection with the moon and feel as if the constant upkeep with its cycles makes me MORE out of tune with my craft. I feel as if all the different phases are redundant to the sabbaths I already celebrate. Is there any way to be a witch and NOT involve the moon at all?
First off, witches don’t need to preform “moon rituals,” I feel this sort of thing is more centered around Wicca. Paganism I feel is also being a “witch,” as long as you follow up with some version of the craft. Another sort-of requirement is that you must worship gods or the elements (the moon is not included.) I myself just pray to the moon sometimes (she gives excellent advice) and cleanse crystals under the full moon. These practices can be replaced by praying to literally anyone else (or talking to Earth spirits,) and cleansing with sage or all the elements.
If you don’t feel connected to the moon, especially if it’s inhibiting your path, then you of course do not need to involve the moon. However, a healthy respect of the moon is probably a good idea. (Sidenote: I don’t focus on any phases other than full (and sometimes new moon, for rebirth.)
Other than that, no, you do not need to worship/involve the moon in your path. Good luck to you!
I’ve got a couple things to add, if that’s alright. They might be slightly unpopular with some witches, as I’ve seen a rash of anti-secular witches on tumblr lately, but it’s a perspective that I feel is important, and I’d like to share my insight from another angle, as I think it might help Anon.
Witchcraft is a super diverse and loosely defined practice with no particular requirements, aside from the one and only most important one. You must, in some way, practice witchcraft to be a witch. That can be anything from exclusively preforming specific types of magick or spells, like divination, making sigils, working with a god or spirit, or it can be super varied and involve as many types of magic as you see fit and are comfortable with. Witchcraft is a practice with no necessary ties to any religion. Being a Pagan, you can work it into your existing religion any way you see fit and think your deities would appreciate, OR you could leave it completely separate from your religion and preform nothing but secular magick, if you so choose.
I’ve been a witch for about 15 years now, and my practice has nothing to do with the moon or it’s phases, or any god or goddess (most of the time). I’m what I like to call a non-worshiping polytheist, meaning I don’t worship any gods, but I acknowledge that they may exist, I acknowledge that people worship them and work with them, but I don’t feel that I need to worship any of them myself. I respect a good handful of them, and acknowledge many of them as potentially powerful and divine beings in their own right. On occasion I’ll work with some of them, offer them a libation, commune and have a conversation, maybe strike a mutually beneficial deal, but I don’t offer myself or my worship to any of them. I’m not a devout servant of any, at best I’m an outside observer who might be willing to offer my occasional services or business in exchange for theirs, in the most respectful and professional fashion possible. My path (and you’ll hear a lot of witches use the term “path”. It’s just what it sounds like. Your journey as you learn and grow as a witch) has wandered all over the place and I’ve settled in an eclectic and greatly varied place. I’m a sponge for magick knowledge, and I love learning about different religions and traditions, even separately from being a witch, I’m just fascinated by the social aspects of it all. So being eclectic kind of just came naturally to me.
The types of magick I practice varies dramatically based on the goal I want to reach, the service I’m providing for someone else, the resources I have available to me, what I feel is best at the time, or even how I’m feeling in that particular moment.
I do a lot of chaos magick, which largely involves forcing changes in your own mental state to apply your will on your surroundings.
I also do a lot of nature magick, appealing to the spirits of the environment (trees, stones, animal, even down to bugs and mites) to encourage the change or effects I’d like to see in my spells.
A lot of my magick depends on my own power. I don’t follow the concept that my soul is in some way limited, and that I can overuse my energy or tire myself out. I believe am an infinite well of power, if I’m willing to put forth my own energy into my practice and allow myself to be that well of power. I almost always put a little of myself in every spell I cast.
One thing I do the most is enchantment, when I make a charm or a trinket, you can see some of them on my blog here, and I’ll use the symbolism of what it’s made out of along with spell I place on the item, to perpetually cast that spell on the person who possessed that item.
I also dabble in technomancy, which is stuff like writing spells in the html code of a website, or creating sigils out of QR codes, and stuff like that.
I never cleanse my work space, I don’t ground myself before or after working, I don’t cast circles before working. These are all legitimately powerful practices for many people, but they don’t fit into the way I work and have worked for the past decade or so of my path, yet some people will tell you they are 100% necessary to every spell and everything you’ll ever do.
And super unpopular opinion, I don’t really believe in astrology. Especially modern mainstream astrology.
So basically what I’m trying to say is that there are countless ways to be a witch and you don’t have to limit yourself to one “type of witch” and you don’t have to follow anyone’s rules aside from the one. To be a witch, you must do witchcraft in some form. And you don’t even have to be consistent with it. Some of the most “powerful” witches I know are people who cast a spell a couple times a year, but do so with amazing resolve and intent, and that’s it.
So be the kind of witch you want to be. Learn and practice what your interested in. Always keep an open, but critical mind. And really, just do what feels right to you.
Yes! This is also very good advice for beginning witches!

instead of jars to bury your spells in, my i suggest the idea of peat pots planters?
not only are they biodegradable, they are useful for many different things. you can grow herbs and starter plants or use them to bury a home protection without the fear of broken glass rising to the surface, or your jar staying in the ground for a 100 years. they also come in many different sizes as well. from large to very tiny
and you can even make your own from left over toilet paper rolls for a byproduct option that lessens garbage going into landfills.
there are plenty of cheaper, earth friendlier options available to us, as witches, at our disposal. it is up to us as a whole to start making better earth friendly choices, to modernize the practice. we are not from the middle ages and tradition has nothing to do with glass jars - we have the knowledge in modern days to realize how harmful the practice of burying jars actually is, we have resources to change that as well.

Easy Thunderstorm Spell
Ingredients:
- Measuring cup
- Pen and paper
- Water
1. First, make a sigil. I used the statement “it will storm”. Decorate the sigil with lightning bolts, raindrops, and storm clouds.
2. Fill a measuring cup with water. Fill it up to however much rain you want to fall.
3. Lay the piece of paper with the sigil over the measuring cup of water and let it sit there.
4. To finalize the spell, clap loudly once or a couple times, representing a crack of lightning. You can also play the sound of rain and thunder around the piece of paper to charge it with your intent.
5. As your spell charges, feel your energy connecting with the sky and literally drawing down a storm. Be patient and you should get one soon!

Waters
Hello darlings! Today I really want to talk about magical waters. I’ll start with simple waters, then one ingredient waters, and then composite waters. Waters is pretty much anything like water that is used magically, so it ranges from storm water to tobacco and damiana tincture, and other stuff. Any of these can be collected whenever is convenient, but I added the time to collect them to make them more potent.
Natural Waters
Rain Water:
Rain water can be used for any spell to make it more potent, but it is a useful tool in peace magic, to quell anger, to relax, and for dream magic. Collect whenever you want.
Storm Water:
Storm water can be either protective or offensive. Use it to wash down your doors to protect you from hexes, and wash your tools with it to amplify their power. You can use it in any hexes or curses you want. To amplify it, add rusty nails to it and let turn rusty. Collect on a waxing gibbous moon.
Swamp Water:
Can be used in works for binding, hexing, or cloaking. Use when wanting to cause illness. Annoint yourself with swamp water to make yourself unnoticeable to others. Colelct on the dark moon (second new moon of the month) or on the new moon.
Marsh Water:
Marsh water is almost the same as swamp water, but it is more suitable for cloaking than other things. It can also be used for cleansing negative energies. Colelct on waning crescent moon.
Hail Water:
Hail water is melted hailstones. Use it for protection or hexing. Similar to storm water, but more aggressive. Use when you want to break sojmeone, or when you wish to cause physical harm. Collect during a full moon for best results.
Salt Water:
Salt water can be used for cleansing and protection from negativity. Simply add salt to water.
Sea Water:
Use sea water in works involving the psyche, or in hexing. It can also be used for cleansing. I use it to work with demonic forces as well. Collect on a new moon.
Lake Water:
Lake water is amazing in works concerning emotions, love, memories, or past life regressions. Boil it and drink it to enhance attempts for past life regressions. Collect on waxing moon.
Pond Water:
Use when wanting to bind someone, or to limit their horizons. Keep a flower vase with pond water in it on a table to silence a conversation to those not sitting at it. Collect on a dark moon.
Spring Water:
Spring water is super versatile. Use it instead of tap water.
Dew:
Dew can allow the witch to cast powerful glamours for beauty and youth. It is an important ingredient in love potions. Collect at sunrise during a waxing or full moon.
Self Water:
Fancy word for spit or urine. This one is a little nasty, but it is to be used whenever a spell needs to be tied to the caster.
Simples
Sun Water:
Bask any sort of water in the sun for a full day. Use it for cleansing, to bring positivity into a space, or for glamours of youth.
Moon Water:
Used to power up any spell. Let water sit in the light of a full moon for a full night.
Tobacco Water:
Steep tobacco into water for a week in the fridge. When strained, mix with 100 proof vodka, about 1.5 parts water for 1 part vodka. Use it to cleanse or to offer to spirits when working with them. Can be used to cause addiction in a person.
Saffron Water:
Steep saffron into water and mix 1 part water with 1 part vodka. Use to raise winds by sprinkling it in the air, or rub on your lips before whistling and raising storms.
Rose Water:
Use for love, glamours, and beauty. Steep fresh rose petals in vodka for a period of 4 weeks, and then extract all the liquid from the petals by pressing them until they have lost their color. Cut with 0.5 part water.
Orange Blossom Water:
Use for joy, beauty, cleansing, and sunshine. Prepare in the same way as the rose water.
Lilac Water:
Use lilac water for sleep, dream magic, spirit work, and cleansing. Prepare in the same way you would prepare the other flower waters.
Apple Blossom Water:
Create this by the same manner as the three flower waters above. Use for protection, love, and beauty.
Holly Water:
Holly water is to be used to protect your family. It will prick at intruders, or unwelcomed guests. It will also allow you to always have knoledge of the safety of your family. Simply steep holly leaves in water and mix with vodka. Do not ingest this, as it is poisonous.
Composites
All Bite no Bark Water:
A powerful water used for protection of a space. Mix together storm water, hair of a black dog, dirt of a grave, the ashes of psalm 7, rose thorns, teeth of a canidae, and three holly berries. Pour around a room which you wish to protect, or water protective plants to give their produce an aggressive kick. This water will protect a space with the ferocity of a rabid dog, and will not warn before attacking.
Fiery Wall of Protection Water:
Mix together sun water with three hot peppers, red brick dust, pottasium nitrate (saltpeter), sulfur, and blackthorn pricks. Another like the above, but more passive. Attacker might suffer a rash after encountering it.
Pitch Water:
Use pitch water to stop someone from making any progress. Mix together water from a swamp, gum arabic or acacia, charcoal dust, and chapparal. It can also be used to dissorient. Fair warning, this water is hella sticky.
Fuck Off Water:
Mix together sumac, apple seeds, thorns of a blackberry, cloves and storm water. Use it to repel unwanted people.
Goodbye Lover Water:
Mix together sea water, sumac, cloves, poppy seeds, thorns of a cactus, petals of a hibiscus flower, and saltpeter. Use it to get rid of unwanted courters or lovers, or to make two people break up.
I hope you guys find this useful! Make sure to be careful with any of the potentially dangerous ingredients listed, and put these to good use! Good luck my darlings.
How to Communicate with Plant Spirits
1) get a plant…or go find a tree 2) sit near said greenery 3) literally just start talking to it 4) it probably may not talk back this is totally cool 5) come back the next day and repeat 6) make sure it’s healthy 7) sing/play music for it 8) don’t give up 9) share energy with it 10) eventually the cutie will come round and talk back. Spirit Communication Tips
Since I just opened my spirit companion shop recently, I wanted to share some tips for you guys! These tips will generally help in connecting with unbound spirits, but can be useful in spirit communication with companions as well!
Things to keep in mind before doing any sort of spirit work:
Believe in yourself, belief holds power
Let go of doubt, stop worrying about accuracy
Your intent holds incredible power, be aware of it
Feel and sense first, analyse last
Release all expectations of what will happen
Release all tension and preconceived notions
Balance your energy, empty your mind
Research personality ties of colours/elements/etc
Don’t rely on divination, especially not at first
As for the communication with a spirit:
Find your intent for spirit communication. Attempt to picture it in your mind, try to perceive it the best way you can. It does not need to be anything specific, but what you think is what you invite, more or less. Understand well what you want to draw to you, and make sure you don’t let your mind wander while you are doing this. If you wish to communicate with a companion, picture them, their energy, and what you want out of the communication with them.
You can also create a visual space in your mind to have your conversation in. This is more along the lines of astral travel, but you will receive the same sort of impressions, it just might appear more fluid. Typically this takes a lot more focus though and you’ll miss out on impressions outside of visual impressions. I don’t suggest this for communicating with a spirit that you are unfamiliar with.
Associate your intent with something physical. If you want to communicate with a spirit that is emotionally forward, you will probably want a spirit of the water element. Having a cup or bowl of water will assist in drawing a spirit of that nature to you by giving them another medium. Be as creative as you wish with this, whatever physically expresses your desire for spirit communication will do. In the case of a spirit companion, this will suffice as an offering or a gift to them!
Contact can come through in small pieces, or large chucks of information, and is often garbled and hard to process. Let the information come to you but don’t process it as it does. Also be patient! When just starting out you might only get the impression of a colour, or a feeling! Do not be discouraged.
Spirit communication can happen by request, but it can also happen quite randomly. Always be aware that a spirit can communicate with you at any time, if for whatever reason they are drawn to the activity you are doing, or your energy.
Some contact may seem insignificant, but don’t dismiss any impressions, even if they are simply of a certain colour or smell, they most always have a deeper meaning
Contact may be visual, audible, or sensory, don’t dismiss the medium of communication either. It can be a combination of all of the above, or even just one of the above.
Contact might not be triggered when you expect it to! Even a change in the weather, or a song on the radio can pave the path to having an impression or contact from a spirit. If you’re not seeing results, spice things up a bit, try a slightly different approach!
Go with your first thought of belief, don’t second guess or question anything, not yet anyway. Feel and sense first.
Pay attention to patterns and coincidence! Having a good understanding of mathematical probability will help you distinguish when a spirit is influencing your environment and when they are not. This is particularly useful during divination! I always know a spirit isn’t communicating with me, or is not at a good energy level to communicate because the results are random and don’t follow a pattern that makes sense. So I think it is important to keep an eye out for patterns and coincidence in your life, even though it is not directly obvious as communication, it is.
Write it all down, don’t think about it just write down everything that comes to mind, scribble all the impressions that come to you no matter how much sense they make at the time. They’re all puzzle pieces to a puzzle that you’ll process later, might be months later. Do not dismiss anything as not spirit contact if that is the first thing that comes to mind. You do not need to confirm it, just write it down! If it becomes a pattern that is your confirmation.
Hold off on divination until you have experienced impressions from a spirit, and have some understanding of their energy and a pattern of their behaviour. When starting to confirm your spirit communication with divination, ask questions you already know the answer to! It will take time to channel the spirit through a reading, so don’t ask hard questions until you see a pattern of accurate results. I wish it was as simple as just doing a reading with a spirit you don’t know, but it takes familiarity for an extremely accurate reading.
Practice all of this often, even if you don’t get results, results and better accuracy come with time. It takes a considerable amount of energy to receive information from a spirit, which only comes with practice and becoming accustomed to doing so.
I hope this assists at least some of you in your spirit work and with your companions! Don’t forget that my ask box is always open, no matter how silly your question might seem!

Dealing with spirit anxiety
Introduction to magic masterpost
I do not believe that it is a good idea to attempt spirit work if spirits give you feelings of anxiety.
Like attracts like .
If you are in a spirit-working situation and giving off anxious, nervous, or fearful energies, you will attract either spirits which cause anxiety and fear, or spirits which feed off of anxiety or fear.
Being anxious in any regular situation does not attract negative spirits to you.
Being worried or fearful in any regular situation does not attract negative spirits to you.
I am only talking about situations when you have intentionally opened doors to the spirit world.
You do not accidentally open doors to the spirit world. You specifically, reader. You do not.
So under no circumstances should you worry right now. If this article gives you anxiety (and if it does I’m really sorry :( ) it will not attract any spirit of any type, no matter what. Let me also assure you that there is no spirit door open around you right now. I have specifically looked, and seen that there is not. You are very cozy and safe.
I have been asked a few times before, “is it a good idea to do spirit work if you have anxiety about working with spirits?”
And no, I do not believe it is a good idea. For a few reasons:
We need a balanced and accurate warning system. If our ‘fear’ switch is always on, then our intuition has lost a really good mechanism for warning us when something actually is going wrong.
The more you believe spirits can harm you, the easier it is for them to harm you. Which sucks, I know. But maybe this article can help with that.
The more anxious you are, the harder it is to make clear choices in the moment (or hey, maybe that’s just me).
And, I don’t think doing spirit work is a particularly effective way to overcome a fear of spirits.
Overcoming your fear of spirits
Let’s get one thing straight: Spirits can only come in when they are let in. I don’t know how it works, but it’s true. It just works.
Now some spirits are real shitheads, and once they get in it can be a pain in the ass to get them out again. But you know what? You can do it. I’m not trying to be all cheesy and give you a speech about inner power. I’m just telling you – you can do it. I get a billion messages from people who have “tried everything” and can’t get rid of a spirit, when in reality they tried an ineffective technique like three times over the space of two weeks. If you set your mind to it and get to work, no spirit may rest where you choose to purge. That’s the long and short of it.
I would like to ask you to review your personal rules about when a spirit is let ‘in’. Some people’s rules may look like this:
A spirit can come in if I’m not properly protected against it
A spirit can overshadow me if I don’t do daily meditations
A spirit can overshadow me if I don’t wear a protection at all times
A spirit may come in my home any time I do a spell or ritual
Consider each one of these rules to be a doorway which a spirit can access. If you accidentally leave a doorway open, the spirit can come in. Forgot to do a meditation for a couple of days in a row? According to your own rules, a spirit can now freely attack you.
Forget to take your protection charm with you? According to the rules you set, you are now open to attack.
The more complex your system is for when a spirit can or cannot attack you, or what kind of spirits will or will not attack you, or every rule and ritual you have to follow so spirits will not attack you, is nothing but another doorway to guard. And the more doorways there are, the more likely it is one will accidentally be left open.
So here is what I propose:
No.
That’s it. What are the rules for when spirits can attack you?
No. Spirits can’t attack me.
And that’s it.
Don’t modify your rules. Don’t reduce them. Don’t say, “spirits can’t attack me unless one is super strong and it overwhelms me.” Don’t say, “spirits can’t attack me unless…”
Don’t imagine your defenses to be solid, and without a doorway. Do not create a wall for spirits to attack. Remove the mental maze that spirits have to run through. There is no contest, there is no maze, there are no doorways. If you imagine a wall, you can imagine that it is breached.
So shove it all. Put it all away. There are no “rules” about when a spirit can get to you – it can’t. Say it to yourself. “Spirits can not attack me. There are no doorways in to my mind.”
It’s not an issue of who is stronger or who has more power. “Literal Zeus could come down to earth, and he could not attack me. I am completely and totally safe within my own mind. Nothing can touch me here.”
Other fun mantras:
“Literal Donald Trump could ascend to godhood, return to earth, come to my front door, and be unable to tax me. I am totally safe.”
“Literal Master from Doctor Who could steal the TARDIS, fly to my bedroom, and be unable to touch me. I am totally safe.”
“Literal blind nurses from Silent Hill could come to my house, and they would just stand outside on the sidewalk for a moment and then leave, because the entire universe knows that I cannot be attacked. I am totally safe.”
Any time you ever have a fleeting doubt, a niggling question about whether or not a spirit could get to you, come back and read these words I give to you:
No. They cannot get to you. I don’t care if it is literal godhood Donald Trump, you are safe.
Now even though you are perfectly safe, some spirits will be pissed at you now and then (it happens) and they will try to cause a ruckus in your life, just to be a bother.
But don’t worry about it. You’re safe. You are safe. You just need to take out the garbage. That spirit could be doing some damn Poltergeist shit, stacking your chairs and opening your cabinets, or whatever. And that is pretty spooky, but that’s all the stupid thing can do, just flop around some cabinets. So take your broom and a jar of flying devil oil, and banish that dumb fucker to Oblivion.
To us it may seem super spooky, like oh no my cabinets! But like, come on. Your cat can open cabinets. Spirits do not have to be huge and powerful and freaky to do that kind of stuff. If a cute lil furbaby can open your drawer, a cute lil spirit can do it, too.
Now even though we have all agreed that spirits cannot get to you, there are still things we can do that makes dealing with spirits easier and more efficient. Basic home protections are just smart business. Regular weekly or monthly cleansings is simply common sense if you are a practicing witch. If you take a physical shower to clean off physical grime a few times a week, then you should probably take a magical shower at least once a month!
Having a few good banishings on hand is just a smart idea and can lay naughty spirits to rest quickly. The only way to be totally sure a spirit never comes in to your house is to seal the place off like Fort Knox, but that is very tiresome and can make your place very cut off, cramped, and stuffy. So don’t worry about the little guys coming in now and then. Getting rid of them is no problem.
If for some reason you get more than a little guy who is causing trouble, this will simply require more intense banishings, cleansings, and wardings. It’s more of a pain in the ass, but does not reduce your chances of getting rid of the spirit (your chances are 100%, you will get rid of it.)
And remember:
Literal Arceus, god of the pokemon, could manifest in physical form, raise an army of pokemon, declare war on your house, and be unable to kick a pebble aside on your driveway because you are totally untouchable.
Tl;dr
If you have ongoing spirit anxiety, work on closing your doorways. Gain skills and learn new techniques in banishing, protections, and cleansings. Wait to do spirit work until you think honestly and purely within your own mind, “I cannot be touched.” Then I think you will be better prepared for spirit work :)
Extremely useful!
This is a good wholesome post yes.
