I wonder if Vader ever found out that the droid who carried the Death Star plans was Artoo.
I can just imagine him thinking: “This explains everything. My men didn’t stand a chance.”
The most accurate thing ever
Vader, looking at R2:
By loving and supporting his little blue trash can unconditionally and never erasing his memory, Anakin accidentally created the droid that caused his own downfall.
I mean think about it.
No R2, no Luke going and seeking out Obi Wan. Leia gets executed or escapes herself. Han probably never even gets involved. and the whole rebellion is likely dead on Yavin 4.
That said I wonder if R2 knew that he was helping to defeat his former best friend.
people on this website be like “it’s actually school’s fault that i don’t know how to read because i wanted to write my essay on the divergent trilogy and that BITCH mrs. clarkson made us study 1984 instead. anyway here’s a 10 tweet thread of easily disproven misinformation about a 3 year old news story and btw, who is toni morrison?”
i KNOW most of y’all are lying about being in the gifted program as children because none of you could pass the basic reading comprehension assessment they give third graders today
this post is mean and I never read divergent or whatever the fuck but 1984 sucks and is rape apologism so if somebody wanted to write about divergent or whatever good for them
this reply is like literally exactly what op is talking about lol. like firstly ops point isn’t “1984 is good”, ops point is that analysing complex stories teaches you how to form opinions and think for yourself. and like secondly in 1984 you’re supposed to think damn it’s fucked up that he’s thinking that way about her, i wonder if this ties in with the central theme of “a society like this will fuck you in the head”? (this is the thinking for yourself part). like do you think orwell just put that in for fun? do you think that just because winston is the protagonist you’re supposed to agree with everything he does?
Remember: protagonist does not exclusively mean “the hero of the story”. Just like the antagonist isn’t exclusively the “villain”.
yeah but it kinda does tho
No, it really doesn’t. Allow me to use Death Note as an example.
Light Yagami is the protagonist of Death Note… and he’s a mass-murderer, using the notebook to kill off not only Japan’s criminal population, but also anybody who opposes him, all under some self-centered, vain interpretation of “justice”. He is absolutely not a hero, but he is definitely the protagonist. This is what we refer to as a Villain Protagonist.
Meanwhile, L is the leader of the investigation team trying to uncover Light’s true identity and bring him to justice for his crimes. As such, it could be argued that he (along with the rest of the investigation team sans Light) is the actual hero of the story. However, because Light is the protagonist, that makes L the Hero Antagonist of the story.
The protagonist is just the central character of the story, and the antagonist is the one who opposes them. The protagonist is not inherently good, and the antagonist is not inherently evil. This is an incredibly basic concept that’s very easy to understand.
My pet theory is that the boom of first person perspective, particularly in YA, has had the unfortunately side effect of making it ESSENTIAL for readers to identify with and empathize with the protagonist of any story they read. It is…very bad and makes for bad storytelling.
