Low Energy Devotional Activities and Ways to Connect with the Gods
Let's be honest, religion and consistent practice can be HARD, especially when you're chronically ill, disabled, mentally ill or neurodivergent. This is a list of lower energy practices you can do to connect with your Gods when you're having a rough day.
Pray. You don't have to say the prayer. You don't have to do the full cleansing and offering. Just think about the prayer. It could be as simple as "'Deity Name', thank you. I'm thinking of you and appreciate you."
Dedicate any self care you do to the Gods. You've got to take meds? awesome. it's now a devotional activity.
If you can, light a tea light candle. You can think about who you're dedicating it to as you're lighting it.
Tell them about your day. Have a simple conversation with them (again, this can be in your head if needed).
Offer some water! Water is a great offering if you don’t have the energy to cook, collect or buy something.
Incense is also a great offering because you can light it then forget about it and your house won’t burn down (if you follow regular safety measures).
Resting. Your deities want you to be okay. Dedicating your rest to your deities is especially great if you feel guilty for allowing yourself time to heal.
Turn on a video of someone reading mythos!
Put on a deity playlist. There are plenty of pre-made ones on Spotify.
Veil or bind your hair! Whenever I’m low energy I’ll throw my hair in a ponytail and bind it that way. It doesn’t have to be extravagant.
Make a Pinterest board for them!
Post on a digital altar! There are plenty of discord servers that have digital altars and temples. You could also make a devotional Tumblr blog.
Change your phone lock/home screen to something that reminds you of your Deity.
I hope this is helpful to anyone who needs it! Take care of yourself first and foremost. If you don't think you can manage something on this list then thats perfectly fine too! you're not a bad person for not being able to do something spiritual or religious. Ultimately, these things are not a necessity. Don't stress :)
Reminder:
Your Gods are always there. Stressed? Pray. Nervous? Sing a hymn.
Not only has this helped my anxiety, it’s helped me form a closer bond with the gods.
You are worthy of the care and love of the gods.
You are worthy of the care and love of the gods.
You are worthy of the care and love of the gods.
You do not need a sign.
For the love of the gods, just pray. You do not need to be called. You do not need to be contacted. Just pray.
the cure for loneliness is sitting in a peaceful spot, lighting a little candle and inviting a deity you love to join you
A request from @wine-dark-heart
I figured that maybe some devotees of Dionysus might not drink alcohol themselves, so I included some recipes that includes red wine sauces! I also included some non-alcoholic drinks!
I hope this menu is satisfactory ^^ ♡
sometimes just a glass of water is an offering. Sometimes just saying a deity’s name is an offering. Sometimes laughing or crying or letting yourself feel what you need to feel is an offering. Sometimes just existing is an offering. Not everything has to be a big, grand gesture. The gods understand so much more than we think they do. They’ve existed for eons, have had thousands, if not millions, of people pray to them and offer to them and become their devotees. Would they really curse one person, out of all these worshippers, for simply trying their hardest? Have more faith in them.
simple devotional things!
sometimes it can be hard to do big devotional acts for your god/s, so I thought I’d make a list of simple devotional things you can do everyday if you’re low on spoons, having a bad pain day, feeling depressed or just can’t be bothered!
light incense associated with them. I like to light one when I’m particularly struggling so I feel less alone
memorise a prayer and recite it every morning and night
offer them some of your food! I like to offer them my food before I begin eating so there’s not any of my saliva on it (ew)
wear colours associated with them
use scented body wash or hair products or perfume associated with them. If you worship Aphrodite you could use rose perfume, or if you worship Dionysus you could wash your hair with a product that has honey in it
this one takes a bit more effort but I like to make oils and drip them over any and all candles I have for my deities! My one for Aphrodite includes lavender oil, rosemary water, rose water, rose petals and olive oil. BE CAREFUL when using oil and candles though as the flame can pop and you could get hurt. Burn your candle, blow it out, add a SMALL AMOUNT of oil away from the wick and then relight it
if your god is associated with any type of easily accessible plant or flower you can buy some for them and put them on their altar!
if you frequently wear a piece of jewellery or makeup ask your deity/ies to bless them and then put them on their altar to charge if they don’t mind
light their candle when you get ready and when you unwind
cook with herbs/spices/plants associated with them
watch shows with themes associated with them! If you worship Aphrodite, watch romance shows or movies, if you worship Ares watch shows or movies about war, if you worship Hades watch shows or movies centred around death
worship can be hard sometimes, especially if you’re dealing with chronic illness, mental health problems, if you’re in a strict religious family or if your life is just difficult at times. The theoi love you regardless and are with you every step of the way 💫

I love the duality Aphrodite and Apollon carry within themselves.
The love and the rage, peaceful bliss and war, carnal and spiritual. The plague and the cure, the protection and the punishment, celestial light and the absence of it.
Seemingly conflicting and incompatible ideas mash together and emulsify in their presence. Beneath their holy gaze, all contradiction is nothing but Whole.

Hey folks, as you're exploring your various paths of spirituality and magic, it's important that you're mentally prepared to find out that you're really, really wrong about something somewhere down the the line. You might discover that a practice you take for granted is appropriative and misrepresented from its original form and intent. You might find out that something you thought was real history was actually made up by somebody fairly recently. You might find out you've been subscribing to an idea that has its origins in a hate movement.
It's not a matter of if this kind of thing will happen, but when. Even if you're doing your very best to research reliable sources as exhaustively as you possibly can, you can be certain that somewhere along the way, you'll absorb something like this. No one is immune. This won't make you a bad person. It's not like you misinformed yourself on purpose, much less went out there with the intention of harming someone or misrepresenting their practices. It's not like the people giving you bad information told you "hey, guess what, I'm a hateful shithead and I'm lying to you." You just didn't know, that's all. Nobody can know everything, not even the most well-read scholars. While being wrong isn't good, it's also not a moral failing. What's important is that you acknowledge that you were wrong, and accept this as an opportunity to learn and grow. It's the most anyone can do, and if someone tries to make you feel bad about being wrong in the first place, don't listen to them. (Being right doesn't inherently make someone morally superior!)
Ultimately, what's really going to speak to your moral character is your ability to admit that you've fucked up and your willingness to do better. You will fuck up one day, so have a healthy plan in mind for dealing with that.

i sing to ares, lord of war & the ever sharp blade. oh, unweary helper of men, guide me with your strength & lead my weary feet forward. unwavering god, drive away the fear in my heart & give me the next day to fight on —
opening your heart to Aphrodite is like:
a sudden burst of self love, you look in the mirror and you see the best version of yourself reflected
a heightened sense of adoration for your partner - i just looked at him and was so overcome by the love i felt that i burst into tears
inescapable yearning for the ocean, the ocean, the ocean
seeing the beauty in even the tiniest of things - have you seen light reflecting from the droplets on a spiders web? that is ethereal.
feeling a little more vivacious in what you do, but also more gentle
realising she's been around you the whole time, you just had to open your eyes
