Witchcraft & Dogs: Witchy things to do with your dog
As a witch I find it very hard to find ANYTHING about dogs and witchcraft. Cats are more commonly found for pet spells. So, to even things out a little here with our feline friends I have come up with a short list of witchy things to do with your canine companion!
On walks take moments to rest and soak in the environment with your dog. Walks can be very intimate with nature. Dogs are also great for finding unique witchy things naturally like seashells, giant acorns, or cool rocks for example.
If you like to use sigils, take a permanent marker and draw a sigil for protection or health on the bottom of feed dishes. Boom! Every meal is enchanted now.
Make homemade dog treats! I mean any Kitchen/Hearth witch would love doing this. I often like making dried apple crisp and natural peanut butter balls with very small amount of organic peanuts for texture for my dogs. Apples bring health and fortune while peanuts (peanut butter) is good for strength and resilience.
Bath magic with dogs is amazing! Dogs love soaking in baths with flowers and oils too. Make sure all bath magic spells are safe and edible for dogs BEFORE you place them in the tub. Dogs will try to ingest what’s floating/infused in the water so make sure it’s not harmful to them.
Make your own charms for your dog’s collar. They can be used as amulets of health or protection jewelry for your special pup.
Infuse spells for the home and sacred spaces with dog fur naturally obtained in your dog’s hair brush. A lot of protective wards can be boosted by your dogs loyal guardian spirit and banish evil away.
Want to boost your bond with your dog(s)? Light and burn mild incense and read a book (a witchy book is what I do) to your dog. I even make dog safe lavender honey milk tea and share with my dogs while I read to them to make it more of a ritual type activity. Doing activities like this are amazing for strengthening the bonds between a witch and their dog(s).
Make your own perfume spray for your dog with essential oils. Lavender, mint, and sandalwood are generally safe to use but as an added precaution I always test my sprays on my bare skin and wait 24 hours (kinda like the hair test for anyone familiar with home hair dye kits.)
Buy the ready clay kits at craft stores for children’s hands and use it for your dog’s paw instead. Carve a sigil in the middle of the clay and press your dogs paw into it. Press in and add your own stones, herbs, crystals, shells, etc. Now you have a protective ward to hang or display in your home infused with your dogs protective energy.
If you like knitting or sewing magic, make your dogs different cloths (like a sweater) that can double as practical and adorable. A real fun way to display witchcraft without anyone knowing that it’s witchcraft!
****Please make sure that anything you involve your dog in they are always safe from harm. All witchcraft involving a dog should be pet friendly at all times. Do not force your dog to participate in your craft if they don’t want to; that’s animal abuse. Thank you & fair winds witches!****
A spread for change
Change is what propels us ever onward through life. It’s in our environment and it’s within ourselves at all times. Every moment is a chance to start anew and change is the catalyst.
So here’s a spread to help you figure out how change has shaped you then, now, and how it will impact you in the future!
1. What caused change in your past?
2. What’s causing change presently in your life?
3. Based on your past and present change, this is the outcome.
4. If the future is positive, then the fourth card is what’s preventing that future. If the card is negative, then the fourth card is what you can do to prevent that negative future.
Imbolc is February 1-2
What is Imbolc?
Imbolc is the preparation for the coming spring. The light is slowly returning and the new year has begun. It is a great time to gather seeds for planting, start planning new projects, and cleaning out old, unwanted energy.

My card of 2019 is the Hermit. Which, paired with my plans for this year feels like a good thing.
🍃 day of birth + month of birth + 2019 = 4 numbers. Add those numbers together. If less than 22, there’s your card! If higher, add those 2 numbers together for your card 🍃
Apparently mine is The Wheel of Fortune. Welp.

DUDE BUT THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN TRYING TO TELL PEOPLE
in medieval times you ONLY addressed a king/queen with “Your Majesty”, NEVER “Your Highness”. To address a king/queen with “Your Highness” was considered an insult.
Here’s a more extensive list of titles and what you would call a person/their wife/their mother/their children

Yule Goat Ornaments Updated December 2018
I was asked to make a tutorial on how I make my felted Yule goat ornaments!
Yule goats are a part of the season in part their durability. Many times during the harsh winters of yore, the cows wouldn’t produce milk during the winter’s while goats would. Not only that, but the nature of the goat eating pretty much anything to survive meant that even if hay had run out, a family could still feed the goat from their stores and from their compost heap, even scraps from the table and cooking and would still produce milk. The Yule goat has become a symbol of strength, perseverance and one of blessing, staving off the harsh realities that winter can impose.
Step 1: Make you guide out of cardboard or sturdy paper. If you would like to print off the template, I made a quick google doc. Step 2: Lay on piece of doubled felt and cut along outline. Step 3: Tie a knot on end of embroidery floss and pull through one side right at the neck. Step 4: This isn’t really step, but make sure that the side where the knot is will be the inside of the Yule goat to hide the knot. Step 5: Bring both side together and use a whip stitch to loop along the edges from the neck forward and all along there whole thing until just past the tail. They don’t have to be super close together, but try and keep the distance uniform and tight. Step 6: Leave enough room to put stuffing in the goat using a chopstick, wooden skewer etc. You can also add in herbs, spices, crystals, sigils, or written petitions inside. Step 7: Once it is full of stuffing, finish sewing up the back to your first knot and tie off a knot to keep it from unraveling. Step 8: (optional) if you have enough excess, wrap the remaining floss around the neck until you have a just enough to tie a little bow. I usually tie the bow facing whichever side I designate at the front. Step 9: Using black thread, or even a small seed bead, you can sew on an eye. If you want to decorate the goat more, use thin ribbon or trim and decorate to your style, trying to sew it in place with minimal stitches to avoid making bulges in the stuffed goat. Step 10: Sew a small loop from the horn, pinch it in place to see what part is balanced, and sew the loop there.
These ornaments are pretty cheap to make and once you get the hang of it, you can make a bunch. Supplies include: Felt, needle and embroidery floss, stuffing, and optional decoration and supplies listed in step 6.
Merry Yuletide!
🦇Cheers, Barberwitch

Yule Goat Ornaments
Yule goats are a part of the season in part their durability. Many times during the harsh winters of yore, the cows wouldn’t produce milk during the winter’s while goats would. Not only that, but the nature of the goat eating pretty much anything to survive meant that even if hay had run out, a family could still feed the goat from their stores and from their compost heap, even scraps from the table and cooking and would still produce milk. The Yule goat has become a symbol of strength, perseverance and one of blessing, staving off the harsh realities that winter can impose.
Usually Yule Goats were made from bent straw, wrapped in red ribbon or string, this falls along the lines of straw art done near harvest like the Corn Dolly tradition for fall that I posted about a while back. This is a modern adaptation that is a lot easier than soaking straw and braiding it, so I hope you enjoy it!
If you do make these, please send me pictures! I loved seeing them last year 💚
Salted Honey Pie 🍯
An old fashion pie recipe that’s super simple to make and a great Ostara/Spring Dessert! I’m making one for this Easter with my family.
Honey, Eggs, Cream are all Spring Foods. Honey symbolizes sweetness and the rewards of hardwork just like the little bees that work so hard to make it! 🐝
And Salt banishes negativity and is purifying!
This dessert is perfect for getting rid of the stress or worry of Winter and welcoming any sweet rewards from your hardwork in the future this Spring!
Ingredients:
One 9 inch Pie Crust (Store bought or one of your favorite crust recipes)
½ Cup of Melted Butter
¾ Cup of White Sugar
2 Tbs of Cornmeal
¼ tsp of Salt
¾ Cup of Honey
2 Eggs + 1 Egg Yolk
½ Cup of Cream
2 tsp White Vinegar
1 tsp of Vanilla Extract
Salt Flakes for Garnish
Preheat your oven to 350. In a large bowl, mix together your dry ingredients before slowly mixing in your wet ingredients one at a time…. (I never do this and just mix it all together randomly as I go, but it’s up to you.)
Feel free to add a sigil to the base of the pie crust. This is mine -
Pour mixture into your pie crust, it will be liquid and thin; that’s okay!
Cook for 45 to 60 minutes or until the top is golden brown and it starts to bubble.(I recommend 60 minutes on the middle rack. Mine didn’t burn at all!)
Take it out of the oven and let it cool for One hour or more to let it solidify. This step is very important to make sure it isn’t too liquidy. The consitancy should be like Pecan Pie Filling.
Garnish with Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt; any big salt flakes. But regular table salt will do just fine if the others aren’t available.
Done! 🍯🐝🍽😋
This can be used for Litha too!

Types of Pendulums and Uses
It is easy to become familiar with pendulums early on in your craft/practice. They are the easiest form of divination and have been utilized for thousands and thousands of years as both divination and dowsing tools. Despite their popularity and ease, I see more people talk about how to use a pendulum and not a lot about the different types of pendulums. While all pendulums can be used for divination and dowsing some are more attuned to one thing over the other, respond to energy differently or have extra uses. I will explain.
1. Gemstone Pendulums
These are the most common and they are the best for those who are first starting out. These pendulums are balanced. Good for both divination and dowsing, they are great tools to practice both techniques. Their properties and purposes might change slightly depending on the stone i.e amethyst for guidance, rose quartz for inquiring about love, but it shouldn’t matter too much. If you know you will be asking mostly about love or guidance then go with the stone best suited. If your questions will be all over the place, go with what pulls you and don’t worry about it.
2. Chakra Pendulums
Much like gemstone pendulums they can be used for both divination and dowsing; however, the presence of stones that correspond to each chakra gives it the added bonus of being able to align the chakras, work with them, and attune to them. This is good for someone who does chakra work or Reiki. It is good for finding issues in the chakras and helping to balance them out.
3. Angel Pendulums
These pendulums are perfect for communicating with spirits, guides, and loved ones who have passed on. They can be used to call on the presence of the divine as well as seek protection during a reading to ensure that no negative presence comes through.
4. Metal Pendulums
Copper is the number one best conductor of energy thus a copper pendulum would be ideal for a beginner. If you are having trouble getting a stone pendulum to work for you, copper is the best choice to go with. Nothing will have trouble communicating through copper. Different metals, on the other hand, may not be as beginner friendly. When looking into metal pendulums be sure to look into the metals they are made out of, pay specific attention to it’s conductivity. A metal that is less conductive should be reserved to users with more experience. These pendulums are usually good with both divination and dowsing. You can look up the properties of the different metals to see what subtle vibrations may influence your pendulum as well.
5. Egyptian Pendulums
Usually metal these pendulums are perfect for dowsing. Traditionally they were used to find precious gems in the earth, land, and water. Today you can use this to find lost objects or whatever else you may be searching for. While you can use this for divination, its most suited for dowsing.
6. Wood Pendulums
Wood pendulums are considered neutral because wood does not take on the subtle radiation that stones and metals do when they are in the earth. However, this pendulum is not idea for the beginner. Wood is not a good conductor at all and for someone just starting out, it can be frustrating to work with. Wood is good at attuning with the natural environment, use it for dowsing or divination. Personally, I like this best for outside uses because I feel it harmonizes with the natural environment. For additional energies within the pendulum look up the specific wood it is made out of.
7. Chamber Pendulums
Chamber pendulums may be made from a variety of materials such as stone, metal, wood, and even glass. These pendulums allow you to place something inside. You may place stone chips inside them to add additional properties. If wanting to channel a loved one or your ancestral line, put in some strands of hair. To channel a lost pet, maybe some claws or something they left behind. Be careful with liquids as they may erode some material. Water will ruin wood and some metals rust. Perhaps placing some moon water inside a water safe pendulum will help you tune in with your intuition and communicate with the other side. You can even use a little bit of blood to commune with ancestors. The nice thing about chambers is that you can also change it up and repurpose the pendulum. Their use as divination and dowsing tools depends on you and what you put in it. Though you could leave it empty and use it as is, that works too.
The Pendulum That’s Right For You~
I’ve complied a list of many of the different types of pendulums you’ll come across so that you can better choose something that suits you; however, remember to go with what your drawn to as well. If you do it that way, than you can’t go wrong. Oh! And remember, you can even make your own pendulum. Perhaps a personally hand crafted one will suite you best. Good luck!
Psychic Powers: Automatic Writing
AUTOMATIC WRITING!
Also known as Psychography.
Automatic Writing allows a person to produce written words without consciously writing. These words are from a subconscious, spiritual, or supernatural source.
Basically, it’s a non-scary way to speak with your “Higher Self”, spirit guides, or spirits. It allows you to see their perspective subconsciously, while using claircognizance.
WHY DO AUTOMATIC WRITING?
Here are some examples of when you could do it…
When you have a fear of spirits and are too scared to contact your guides in any other way
When you are not yet very clairvoyant or clairaudient (you can’t hear or see your spirit guides), so you want to try another way. Automatic writing is actually very easy if you manage to put your mind to one side, and I know lots of people who have trouble hearing their inner voice who have had success with automatic writing.
When you want to get your Higher Self’s perspective on something that is bothering you – (I used to do automatic writing when I was upset about something and needed to raise my vibration. I’d tune into my higher self and start writing. She always had some very comforting and insightful things to say about any situation.)
Or just when you have some questions that you want a spiritual perspective on.
HOW TO BEGIN AUTOMATIC WRITING!
Sit down with a blank piece of white paper in front of them, while holding a pen.
I’ve also heard, before, that you can sit at a computer and type - but this is high unlikely to work. It would take a lot of energy for another being to move your hands across a keyboard. Pen/pencil and paper is very recommended.
Begin writing without conscious thought.
The conscious mind recedes into the background, so that wisdom from other realms of consciousness many be channeled through and handwritten, or typed. Often those who do automatic writing have no idea what they have written until they read over their notes.
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
Start each automatic writing session with ‘My Spirit Guides’ or ‘My Higher Self’ or ‘My Angels’ as the first line.
You can call on all of them if you want. Be clear about whose input you want, as it sets an intention to hear from that being. If you want, you can also see your guides as parts or extensions of you that you can access whenever you want, like your subconscious. (The more you see these entities as beings outside of you, the more channeling them may seem quite elusive.) If you want, you can also raise your vibration and connect with your guides/higher self before you begin typing. For example, you can do some deep breathing, or visualize going up to a room to meet with your guides, so that you can get their input for the duration of the session.
Just start writing and don’t worry about what you’re writing at first.
For example, write your question and just see what comes out when you put your fingers on the keys. You don’t have to focus on the question, just start writing about anything that comes into your head. The trick with this is to get used to writing (if you are not already). The more you’re used to writing, the easier it is to get into that ‘flow’ state when writing.
Setting a timer while you do it can be helpful
This is so that you don’t have time to think about what you’re writing. That works particularly well when you have a set of questions you want to ask your guides.
Create the right conditions so that you can lose your inhibitions about what you’re writing
I (personally) like to make sure I’m completely alone before automatic writing, and then insure that I’m writing in a journal or on a piece of paper that I can put somewhere safe, so that no one else reads it.
Don’t allow your mind to interpret the information while you’re getting it
You can interpret it afterwards. But know that it is totally normal for the mind to butt in and judge information in the process.
HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU’RE DOING IT CORRECTLY?
Channeled information tends to be high vibrational in nature. It will often comfort you, provide clarity or will raise your mood in some way. If it feels negative or feels heavy, you’re probably not channeling a source that you want to tap into - or you may just be channeling your own emotional body, if you are not feeling very good. What you channel via writing will usually not sound like your voice or the voice that you ‘think’ in. Another feature of intuitive guidance is that it tends to be very clear, usually feels light and is often simply expressed. Having said that, I have read automatic writing that is poetic and metaphorical in nature. But don’t be hung up on how yours should sound or be. If you do it often enough, you will soon get a sense for what your automatic writing ‘feels’ like.
This is fabulous information - I’ve also found that I sometimes work better when I’m not interested in producing “words” at all, but rather in simply letting the pencil move on the paper in shapes that I can interpret later.
Advice for the baby Hellenic Polytheists
I’ve got just about a year under my belt now, so I’m very much still a baby myself. But here’s a few things I wish I’d known, or think might be helpful.
Just make khernips with a match. No really. It’s the extinguishing of a flame in the water that makes it lustral. Don’t worry about the rest unless you really want to and have the time.
You don’t have to introduce yourself to any gods. They all want to be worshiped; just get to it.
We’re not as intimidating as you think we are. We just…read a lot. You can read a lot too. You’re welcome here. We’ll even help.
Books are expensive. Theoi.com’s library is free.
Statuary is nice. It is also wicked pricey. Here’s what you need on an altar: A bowl for offerings, a vessel for khernips (can be near the altar rather than on it)
Wine, olive oil, honey, water are pretty universal libations. You’re welcome.
Dispose of offerings however works for you. Just do it with respect, and you’re fine. Oh but don’t consume offerings to cthonic (underground) deities, alright? That’s bad times.
The gods demand Arete. That is your personal best, not the best of the person next to you, or your mother, or somebody you idolize on tumblr. Do your best.
This is a religion of Kharis. When you ask the gods for something, give them something. Then, do not forget the thank you. Offer again if you are granted what you asked for.
Our tumblr community is pretty great, but we also are sometimes wrong. Find sources, and for gods’ sake do not try to replace your studies with Tumblr. Read for yourself, learn for yourself, build your religion such that it best honors the gods and works for you.
If you’re like me, you’re constantly moaning “How do you pronounce THAT?”. I know, friend, I know. Try a couple of these lessons on the ancient Greek alphabet. It is NOT fool proof. It is an incredibly complex language, and pronouncing it ain’t easy. But boy it will help with those particularly tricky epithets.
Oaths are serious business. Gods are easy to fall in love with. Be careful. Be patient.
Real life pagans are way, way nicer than the ones on the internet. Go find them.
There are exceptions to most rules. Most of those exceptions are Dionysos.
“I don’t know what to say” “I don’t know how to write a hymn” We basically have a hymnal.
No, ___ will not get jealous if you also worship ____. It’s a fear of us recovering monotheists, but I promise it does not apply to this religion. It’s kind of what POLYtheist means, and plus, most of our gods are related. Show the whole family some love.
“What is [god name] like?” They’re pretty fucking cool. Go find out for yourself, and bring gifts.
The gods know we are mortals, and that mortals make mistakes. Apologize. Bring gifts.
this is great honestly i love this
In defense of Zeus (Or, the gods are more than their myths.)
I was reading the internet the other day (seems like I’ll never get through that thing!) and came across a post about Zeus. I won’t specify the post, I’ve seen a lot of them over the years, but the gist is that Zeus’ mythos makes him unworthy of worship. And sometimes this is tongue-in-cheek, things like “95% of the problems in Greek mythology could have been avoided if Zeus could keep it in his pants.” Which is kind of funny and arguably not a wholly inaccurate statement when you think about it–Leda, Io, Europa?
And of course you don’t have to worship all of the gods. If you find that Zeus’ mythic storylines make you uncomfortable dealing with him, then don’t. It’s fine.
But if all your thoughts about any of the gods are based wholly on their myths, you’re missing a lot.
For one thing, there aren’t a lot of gods (or pantheons) whose mythology doesn’t have some difficult aspects. Some of this has to do with when they were written down and by whom; a myth reflects the culture it arose from. Zeus was portrayed as an iron-handed father figure (for example, marrying off daughter Persephone with no regard for her mother’s feelings) because that was the perceived role of a father at the time. Doesn’t make it right or something for mortals to emulate, then or now. But it tells us something about the time and the culture all the same.
And it’s not only Greek mythology that presents these issues; the Norse god Odin, too, treated a number of women (for example, Gunnlod) quite unfairly, usually for some sort of gain (for example, the mead of wisdom). Frey’s wooing of Gerd involved some pretty nasty threats on the part of his messenger Skirnir.
The main thing, though, is that what we know about the gods from myth is often very, very different from what we know about them from cult. This isn’t always an option (there’s very little information about religious practice in Celtic or Norse cultures, for example) but in the case of the Greek gods it absolutely is. And what you find is that the connection between myth and cult is sometimes very tenuous.
Zeus, for example, is a multi-faceted god with many aspects and many associations. He is, yes, a god of thunder, who sends the rains we so need. He is a god of storms. But he is much more.
Zeus is a god of justice. He is the one to turn to if you have been wronged; he is an avenger of those who have been treated poorly by the system. He is as well a defender of oaths and a punisher of perjurers.
He is a protector of assemblies, a defender of the right to assemble. He is also concerned with government; pray to Zeus when your government is corrupt, when people are deprived of their rights and their votes.
Zeus is a protector of the city; he is also a protector of individual homes. He protects a household’s storeroom and property, ensuring that the family is safe and has enough to eat.
And Zeus is a protector of strangers and travellers, people who are far away from friends and family; his wrath falls on those who mistreat visitors. He insists on hospitality, on being kind to foreigners. He is as well a protector of fugitives.
Zeus, in short, is a god we need now.

“ With spells in her hair...”
This one’s for any witches with long(er) hair. If you’ve got close-cut hair, this won’t really work so well for you.
Ever heard of the witch’s ladder knot spell? If you don’t know, you’re more or less tying 9 knots in a rope, while spouting an incantation.
“By knot of one, the spell’s begun,
By knot of two, it cometh true,
By knot of three, thus shall it be,
By knot of four, tis strengthened more,
By knot of five, the spell’s alive,
By knot of six, this spell I fix,
By knot of seven, events I’ll leaven,
By knot of eight, it will be fate,
By knot of nine, what’s done is mine.”
Basically, you’re going to do this with your hair.
You don’t have to worry if your hair isn’t long enough for nine knots. I’ve found that you can even do one knot per curl, and just tie nine knots throughout your hair. It’ll be just as effective.
Now, keep in mind, a witch’s ladder knot spell is known to be extra powerful, because not only do you have a chant to follow, but a physical repeating pattern to help manifest it into reality. Because of this, I don’t suggest having any especially strong intentions (ie, weaving some sort of protection spell that sends a curse at offensive parties) because it’s basically a part of your body. And it’s on your head. You really don’t want anything to backfire.
So try a little glamour spell, blessing for body positivity, or good luck charm. Change the words around in the chant to suit your needs. I came up with the words as I knotted my hair, but if you need a little time to figure out what you want to say, go ahead and write it out.
In a traditional ladder knot spell, you go back and forth between ends trying knots, however, since your hair is attached to your head, just tie knots one after another, almost like a braid, then tie it at the end with an elastic to hold it in place.
You can spell one strand of hair (it looks really cool wrapped around the elastic of a ponytail), or you can weave your whole head up with spells!
If you put all your hair up in knot spells before bed, in the morning, when you take off the elastics and let the ladders come loose, you’ll be left with wildly witchy curls that resonate beautiful energy, and were literally formed with magick!
Idea for incantation:
“By knot of one, I’ll face the sun,
By knot of two, I’ll love me too,
By knot of three, I’m proud to be me,
By knot of four, I am worth more,
By knot of five, this day I’ll survive,
By knot of six, my heart I’ll fix,
By knot of seven, harsh thoughts I’ll lessen,
By knot of eight, I know I’m great,
By knot of nine, this life is mine.”
I’ve found this method to be very effective, give it a try and share with me how it worked for you!
Divination with DnD Dice
There seemed to be enough interest in the DnD Dice Divination system that I decided to go ahead and write it up. I couldn’t fit it all on here though so I might be making more posts in the future about it. I’ve included the most important stuff here to get started.
I’ve included a zine to download and print off if you want to take it with you. I actually recommend the zine, it’s a better format than what tumblr would let me put together.
Please consider tipping me and definitely credit me where you can.
I know there are other systems out there and I don’t have a monopoly on dice divination but this guide did take a lot of time to put together and is built on my own collection of frameworks, meanings.
Dice sets can be picked up for cheaper than most basic tarot decks making the barrier to entry lower. My goal was to create a system that could get a similar level of complexity of information to tarot and oracle cards. I found in test readings, I could get roughly the same as I would get from a four card reading. So it’s a good start!
It’s my mission to make divination more accessible, tipping me helps me devote more time to this.
Zine: https://www.scribd.com/document/380692727/Divination-With-DnD-Dice
Read description for printing directions or it might not come out right.
If you can’t print it off, the same information is included below the cut.
Hope someone finds this useful!

A flower pot or something to grow it in, and soil
Envelope (The paper, and envelope should be small enough to fit into the pot unless your planting outside.)
Process:
When its your birthday write your wish on the paper you have selected. The paper itself can be related to your wish in terms of color or material. (Ex.Red=Love, Green=Money ect. ect)
Place into the envelope, and concentrate your energy, and intent to channel inside of it. Visualize the wish outcome, and it being fulfilled.
Place under the soil
Plant the seed, and take care of it to help cater to its growth. (Some plants you water everyday, some not at all, pay close attention to these types of things, and do your research.)
Once the plant is in full bloom, your wish will come true.
Things to keep in mind:
When it comes to spells, all aspects of the spell is important. Color, material, dedicating, cleansing. Keep this in mind when choosing the seed to plant, and what properties that come with it.
