Hello witchblr! We have some wonderful blogs for folks to share their opinions (shoutout @witch-hot-takes and @witch-neutral-takes ), but I thought it would also be nice for folks to have a place to ask about other people's opinions!

One of my absolute favorite things about witchblr is when people get into really long and in depth debates about the nature of witchcraft and everything that one might conceivably call witchcraft. I intend for posts here to be mainly in the form of polls, but my hope is that these polls will provide a jumping off point for real discussion :)

This blog is hostile to bigots of any sort. I enthusiastically invite anyone who might follow to point out anything I might miss here.

Hello! I do polls related to paganism in all its forms. I am a Hellenic Polytheist, and my main account is @dancing-with-maenads !

I was inspired to make an account like this by @witch-hot-takes , so credit where credit is due!!

"pagan" in this context is really flexible. It can mean Polytheist, it can also encompass Abrahamic practices like demonolatry, if you personally feel at home in the pagan or witch community, this place is for you. I'm just using "pagan" as a general word here.

By my path, like Green witch, eclectic witch or cottage witch.

By the title witch alone.

I call myself Wizard.

I call myself Sorcerer/Sorceress/Sorcerex.

I call myself Magician.

I use a religious title like Priest/ess/ex or Oracle, etc.

I use a title specific to my culture/practice (Ex. Shaman, rootworker, etc.)

I use multiple titles in various contexts or all at once

I do not use a title at all.

I have never cast a curse in my life.

I have cast a very small number of curses, only for truly dire situations

Very rarely. It takes a lot to make me feel justified in cursing.

Infrequently. I do not avoid it per se, but it is far from my first solution.

Infrequently. I do not feel it is necessary most of the time.

Occasionally. I am not at all hesitant to do so, but not often motivated to.

Somewhat regularly. I keep supplies on hand to do so.

Regularly. Not my most common spell, but not my least common either.

Very regularly. It is one of my first solutions to problems with other people.

Frequently. I cast more curses than any other type of spell.

Extremely frequently. Most of my spell work is curses.

How "real" do you believe magic is?

Not at all, all benefits of magic are purely psychological.

Not very, our minds can somewhat influence reality but spells are mostly props.

Im not sure, I lean towards not, but I have had some unexplainable experiences.

Real, weaker than you think. Humans have limited ability to influence reality.

I think a lot of the time the online talk about protection is overdone and fear-mongering. I don’t mean that protection in itself is overrated, it is a good tool to have. But oftentimes online discourse feels as if witches have to build this castle to protect themselves from baneful energies. I’d argue that most of us will never be hexed in our lives. And to argue online that this will 100% happen and protection is the only form of help against that is fear-mongering for new practitioners. I wish we would instead talk about how seldom one gets hexed.
